Union_Fan Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 This being a stepping stone to somewhere else is definitely a fear of mine, but that's ok. Just like Yoda said to Obi-Wan, "there is another." Quote
Hokiebird7 Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Homerun hire for the Bears...and as some have mentioned he is a far far superior coach than that POS yall had....enjoy the ride Bears fans...and as some have said hopefully the parents back off and let him do his thing Fairlawncat 1 Quote
UnionGuy2017 Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 I’ll be curious to see who remains on staff and who he brings with him. A lot of rumors flying around right now on both fronts. Quote
Real Sasquatch Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 Good hire. It may take a season or 2 for the players to learn his system. I would expect Union to remain a top level program. Some kids respond to the hard nosed -tight-ship style, some don't. Kids these days are different. It worked for him at LB. I think the kind of kids that he has at Union will respond well. Quote

CriticalNoise Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 4 hours ago, jreed97 said: $2 says this guy is coaching at Abingdon in 2-3 years I don’t think so. the talent program at Union is loaded down to 10 year olds. our youth program coaches are exceptional and do a very good job. It shows at the HS level. saying that, I don’t know a clue as to what Abingdon youth holds. Quote
Fairlawncat Posted March 10 Report Posted March 10 I know JHs son is at Emory and Henry. I think he will be a sophomore, so maybe this was the reason for the Abingdon comment and JH being there in 2 years as Abingdon is closer to EH. 2 years from now, that means the son is a senior. You don't move from one school to another school to be closer to your child for only 9 or 10 months. If you move from one school to another to be with your child, you do it to be with your child for 3 or 4 years. That ship has sailed, so if the comment about Abingdon was made based on JH being closer to Emory and Henry, understand his son will only have 9 or 10 months of school left in 2 years, then what? The kid may take a jo in Idaho or NC or wherever. Harless will be at Union in 2 years trying to beat Graham and Graham trying to beat him and the winner of D being a heavy favorite to win the state title.<----that's the more likely future. ehcwasp 1 Quote

His mother lives in Abingdon also, I believe. According to an article I read somewhere... Somebody correct me of I'm wrong. Quote
JDHoss Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 Based only on what I've read on this board and seeing them scrimmage Dobyns-Bennett a couple of times at E&H when our grandson was playing, I don't think Union could have made a better hire. Quote

BoBob Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 Great hire. So I'm reading here about folks on the side line. Were there fans and parents or just a large number of coaches? Quote

Coaches, coaches from other schools/districts, former players, kids of coaches, photographers, EMS, has beens, wanna be's, roadies, random school employees/town workers, etc... Some had a purpose, but most are just moochers looking for free admission. BoBob, Gridiron60 and Unchained 3 Quote
Jags52 Posted March 11 Report Posted March 11 I heard that coaches may not be the only new faces on Unions side line this year. Quote

We thought we had a done deal on a QB 2 seasons ago and their coach talked them into staying at the last minute. Quote
