If what I heard yesterday is true too late.

Ah so much SWVA rumor mill I take everything with a grain of salt. My fav is "reliable source" which is naturally wrong 99% of the time:)

I thought with the new transfer rules a player had to sit a year?

Like @appyvol said, if there's a move, all is good.

Also, if you kept up with the Logan Thomas case at Brookville, that his kids won BTW, the VHSL's own bylaws stare that the building principal is the determiner of eligibility. In other words, there's always a loophole.

It's not always fair, but it is what it is.

Coaches, coaches from other schools/districts, former players, kids of coaches, photographers, EMS, has beens, wanna be's, roadies, random school employees/town workers, etc...

Some had a purpose, but most are just moochers looking for free admission.

The gravy train has pulled into the rail yard and will not be departing 😂😂😂😂

I don't think anybody in their right mind nowadays would not follow up on those sort of things.  The climate on transferring is changing.

It has definitely become a huge issue and not just in Virginia. If you're benefitting, it's all rainbows and sunshine. If you're on the losing end, it's a travesty.

I still think it's going to take a complete effort from all VHSL schools, and it's certainly not enough to police oneself. I can see instances with neighboring schools where one agress to overlook the basketball transfer if the other overlooks the football one.

But don't think for a minute a school won't try it if they can get away with it.

Coach Harless does know it’s his sworn duty to stalk SWVA Sports page, right?  He’ll find out what he’s doing right, what he’s doing wrong, and the most up to date suggestions on how run his program.

Where else could he go to get such expert advice? 😂

To be fair, the opinions expressed on here are FAR more reasonable than most of what I see on social media. The information shared is also more accurate... how crazy is that? lol

TRUTH!😎

IMHO, Union hit a homerun: Whether it works out or not is anybody's guess! I don't think that CJH will waste all the talent the former coach did, but it is getting increasingly harder every year for football teams from SW Virginia to win at the state level. I hope that he will bring stability for the young men playing for him, because those kids were put in an impossible situation by a trash dump individual, who just thought of himself. I wish him well, until they play Gate City!

I agree with you, but disagree slightly. There is absolutely no question about his off the field conduct/issues/behavior. That is pretty clear, BUT I dont like revisionist history On The Field to "make us all feel better" in order to get back at the POS individual. Here is what I'm getting at. Sandusky at Penn St as an example. In the years that followed, many fans in Happy Valley slowly wanted to morph or rewrite history On The Field for Sandusky. I would reqd comments like, "ya know, he was an ok DC, he wasn't great." Well, they were delusional. On the field, Sandusky would be approaching the overused word "genius" on the defensive side of the ball. He might be the best On The Field DC in the history of college football. He was actually....that good On The Field. No question, off the field, he is someone who I think should have been executed by the state of PA.

The above is my concern about Turner. No question about his of the field behavior, but on the field, the guy could coach. As bad as "it makes us feel" when we say that, its a truth. He could coach. If we lie to ourselves by slowly morphing to the belief that "he was average or not so good on the field," we become the liar or delusional ones just like Turner was Off the Field. We dont need to become that. We can separate the two, On the Field and Off the Field.

I never said Turner couldn't coach; he just wasted the talent he had. Turner was the only coach that have pulled off bringing to bitter rivals under the same roof and making it work. Just the comparison between Penn State and Union makes me a little queasy. This thread is not about Turner, it about the hire of his replacement. Turner has had enough attention; we don't give him anymore.

There has to be a change of residence and it cannot be under the suspicion of transferring for athletics

Or a potential lawsuit threat.  The VHSL caves to that every time.  Been quite a few transfers for athletic purposes overlooked in just the last 5-10 years (some didn't even involve a family move).

With who? When is the last time a school in SWVA got in any trouble over getting a transfer?

Valid point, I’ve never heard of anyone really getting in trouble other than maybe verbal warning possible. If he’s done something questionable, I’d say worst would be a verbal or written reprimand.
