Fairlawncat Posted March 13 Report Posted March 13 The VHSL football state title games for classes 1 and 2 remain in Salem for 2026, but two more games added to Salem Stadium. Classes 3 and 4 will also be played there. Two games on Friday and 2 on Saturday. JDHoss 1 Quote
jeffro Posted March 13 Report Posted March 13 Hope we play on Saturday. Hard to get off work on Fridays. Quote
JDHoss Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 Fantastic! Wish they could do like the TSSAA and get all 6 classes in over a couple of days. It's very doable. Quote

Thats actually already in discussion and if it works out smoothly in 2026 with 4 games, there is discussion about bringing Classes 5 and 6 to Salem in 2027 or 28. JDHoss 1 Quote
Jags52 Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 All 6 games played in Lane stadium would be sick! I guess you could split it between lane and whatever UVA calls their stadium that would still be awesome Quote

Would love to see that. The FHSAA actually went from 8 to 6 classes for this coming year when a metric shit ton (84) of schools decided to go the "Independent" route and no longer play in the FHSAA, and will have their own playoffs after the regular season. 1inStripes Posted March 14 Report Posted March 14 Don't see all 6 being played on a natural grass surface. JDHoss 1 Quote

It would be a mess for sure. I wasn’t putting together they’d be playing back to back, the field in BSG is fine in the cold with natural grass but playing in one day yeah thats not ideal. I just hate turf. Quote
Fairlawncat Posted March 14 Author Report Posted March 14 Salem is Field Turf, not natural grass Quote
redtiger Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 I guess ill be getting a hotel room and enjoying 2 great days of football! Id be SHOCKED of 5/6 play at Salem. While Salem is centrally located for 1/2, its out of the way for most 3/4 schools and might as well be on the moon for the 5/6 schools. Richmond/NOVA/Tiddewater will buck on it, as they probably should but idk of another suitable site thats not on a college campus on the eastern side of the state. jreed97 1 Quote

Already read online our friend from the 757 area complaining about having to travel to Salem... While I don't disagree with them, I do find their complaints rich. redtiger 1 Quote

The TSSAA plays nine games over three days. D2 (Private schools) play on Thursday. The public schools alternate Friday and Saturday. 1A, 3A, 5A always play the same day. 2A, 4A and 6A always play together! it is a fantastic weekend of football. I have done it twice and got to watch 27 D1 players play over three days and the next year they were 22 D1 players. It's a football junkies dream! redtiger, JDHoss and Fairlawncat 3 Quote

Yeah, I just never had much interest in spending 3 days in Cookeville. By the time the last game was over on Saturday, I was ready to get back to Kingsport. Quote
BoBob Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 I just hope they alternate the 1-2 and the 3-4 meaning one is on Friday one year and then the other two classes are on Friday the next year. I hate to see parents and family members have to take a day off (I know some work Sat as well) but I think over all the teams that play on Friday will have much less fans in the stands due to folks having to work on Fridays. Unless you are a parent/family you probably are not going to take off for the game and you will certainly not have your fans of just the game (meaning their school isn't playing) there. What's the upside to this other than the VHSL not paying for another venue? Quote
Gridiron60 Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Has any of this actually been publicly announced by the VHSL? Or is this like going to 4 classification thing, a rumor started by a random person on the Internet. Quote
1inStripes Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 I think Tim Hayes was the first I saw report it on X this past weekend. Gridiron60 and rvtne216 1 1 Quote
