Tester will probably be gone in 3 or 4 years (after certain kids are no longer with the program). Tester is the type of coach who wants to ride in when he thinks there’s talent coming and ride out when the talent starts to fade. What some refer to as a “Sunny Weather Coach”. You want to see clueless, look in the Mirror. Quote

My only reservation was assuming a group of primarily freshmen starters in year one that maximizes potential and improves year over year. Numbers-wise, is there that many football kids in the 3 smaller schools? Are there some key transfers that want to join because of Tester? These are all legitimate questions of mine, not underestimating the coach. I also have zero knowledge of the circumstances outside the group of players he has been working with since Little League. For context, if I recall correctly, while Hurley punched above there weight, wasn’t there some key contributors from outside the Hurley zone that made a large impact and in a smaller school that hits on both sides of the ball per SWVAOG? I remember TVs most athletic player moving to Hurley during the undefeated regular season. This is not a criticism, but seeking knowledge during the slow offseason. The player you are talking about lived in Hurley, played at Hurley until the 9th grade, transfered to Twin Valley then transfered back to Hurley. There were at least Five Hurley boys playing for TV and Grundy at that time including Austin Shortridge TV all time rushing leader, tornado99 1 Quote

In the 8 years after Tester, 29 wins and 47 losses The schedule is roughly the same level of difficulty the entire time. One item of the 3 above is radically Different than the other 2. The effect he had was noticeable. Statistically, its on another planet compared to the years before and after. If you take the total of 12 years before Tester and the 8 years after Tester (20 years total without Tester), the record is 76 wins and 125 losses over those 20 years compared to Testers sandwiched years in there in which he went 73-57 over 11 years. What he did Statistically and by the eyeball test was unbelievable considering the talent hasn't changed much over those 31 years nor the schedule very much, but one guy was a complete statistical anomaly. He won with little to no talent. The other ones clearly didnt come close to winning with little to no talent. honestjohn 1 Quote

The 8th graders at Hurley have lost 4 games in the last 5 years, most little League and Middle School coaches in Southwest VA know how good they are and Greg has been their coach those 5 years. They did have some good talent there in about a 3 year span together but overall it wasn't hugely different. Tester is one heckuva coach I don't care how anyone slices it. redtiger and Fairlawncat 2 Quote
