That’s a weird place to transfer with all the TN schools a lot closer to Bristol than Southern Gap.  I wonder if they have family there or something. No offense but of all the places to leave Virginia High for Grundy seems odd.

Exactly I thought if she was going to transfer out then maybe to TN HIGH, this is strange. A friend of mine think she has friends on the aau circuit from some of these schools that formed to make Southern Gap is why and it also makes me wonder if Coach Timmons had a heads up that this was going to happen so he left the girls to take the boys job

I would say Timmons at least had a hunch she was leaving.  Most of the time the coaches know before its public.

How did Virginia High have a d1 player and still lose as the 1 seed in the regional tournament to a very down Gate City team?

She possibly seemed so talented because everyone in SWD was not very good including VH. I think she’s probably a solid player. If a kid is that good , are they going to Southern Gap or one of the bigger TN schools with more established programs? Just seems like an odd choice but I guess they’ll be playing a lot of single A schools and stack up some big wins.  Better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big ocean or something like that I guess. I certainly wish her all the best and SGHS girls’ BB all the best next year.

I'm not trying to be mean but that’s why I said on another thread that I didn't understand the decision for Va High to get rid of Julius for Timmons. Timmons once had 3 girls all the same grade go on to play college basketball and only manage 1 state appearance out of that group. This year Va High team wasn't good at all, all teams did was double and triple team Kaiden and when she passed it back out nobody could make shots.

Now how can you have possible a d1 player and not win is the same way Trivette who's going d1 had she stayed at Richlands would still have been the best player in the area by far but nothing to show for it, you need Coaching and a decent supporting cast. Abingdon with Trivette never won the m7 regular season and never would have won the 1 state title she did if Abingdon would have to play in class 2

The supporting cast is what helped Trivette get a state title because it definitely wasn't coaching

Yeah you definitely need 1 or the other when you have a very good player to work with, you can't lack in both that's when kids start to transfer out

Definitely coaching.  Houseright has proven to be a very good coach.  Brown did the same thing 2 years ago against her in the regular season.  He got mad and pulled Trivette at the end of the game to punish her and Gate City pulled off 8 pts in a matter of seconds.  Cost Abingdon the number 1 see in their region and forced them to play Botetourt in the regional semis instead of the finals with chance to move on to state.

I don't understand the Harris girl transferring to SG.  With the schools that combined, I don't see any kind of powerhouse team coming from that so not sure it will help her college stock.  If she is content with getting local small college looks she should be OK in that regard but for the bigger schools, she may need bigger exposure.  Travel ball will help but may not be enough.

Moms family is from Grundy, and mom played one year at Grundy.

That certainly helps explain it if they wanted to be closer to family. I don’t blame any person or family wanting to move back “home”. Thanks!
