Rains a little bit in Lebanon and he’s out there throwing a fit and is not wanting to play for 2 hours just over one little shower. Add on a 30 minute delay for a singular lightning strike. Lost all respect for gobble with that plus having his players spitting at and giving other players the bird while shouting expletives at them. Geez…yeah, sounds like the long delay was unnecessary. Players will act how coaches allow them to act unfortunately.

Bush league stuff. I get the frustration man but both coaches had the ability to say no to playing and push it back to today. But they didn’t, likely because of pitching availability (that I believe gobble wanted to happen) so I say play ball, no one was expecting the fog to get that heavy that fast

Observer Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Gobble probably thought they would postpone the Lebanon-Richlands game to today if his game had a long delay and ended late. Gridiron60 1

Any reasonable person would presume a game would be rescheduled if start time was going to be after 11pm. I don’t know about Russell County but Tazewell County is still in session. I hate more rules or policies but there really needs to be some sort of policy regarding so late at night for a high school game.

I think the agreement was that they wouldn’t start if it was after 12 Gridiron60 1

Fairlawncat Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 1. Questions having to be asked are did both coaches agree to the start time and were the officials on board and can the officials overrule the coaches if all 3 parties aren't on Board/and-or can the coaches overrule them? 2. Dumb arse move by Lebanons coach (maybe-I will get back to that in a second). If you are Lebanon, you feel you are the better team and the favs. Why on earth would you let fatigue and weather Enter the equation? What does weather and fatigue do historically in any sport? It equals the playing field and 2 teams that may have a gap between them all of a sudden have very little or no gap, and you are allowing that "chance" to enter the equation when you are already playing a sport that has lots of "chance" involved and there are no do-overs as we have discussed. It isn't a best of 3 series. The only thing that I question and do not know the answer to is this. If Lebanon's Coach agreed and wanted to play and start late, was he worried about Lebanon's ability to throw its Ace against Battle in the next game? Meaning, "If I play tonight, my Ace pitcher is good to go against Battle, but if we delay until tomorrow, he likely cant go against Battle, or...."if we play tonight, Battle's Ace isn't eligible against us, but if we delay, we get Battle's Ace." I do not know the answer to this question and regardless, the game shouldn't have been played that late. Gridiron60 1

Both coaches did agree to the start time and likely did so they would retain a little more pitching for the region championship

BigWinners Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Why would either team not throw their ace last night anyway? It’s the must win game, not the final. I get both teams prob figured you’d be okay with number two against foes you have beaten at least twice before but last night was the gotta have it. Don’t let 11pm or weather change your plan. Id rather postpone, feel confident about semis and then deal with the final as opposed to opposite.

Fairlawncat Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Just now, Stelley said: Then you’d have to worry about pitching for the state quarterfinals on Tuesday Yep on that one also. This is the little variable that I suspect entered the equation last night. My plans for pitching in the next game or game that follows or......my plans against who I will face in pitching for the next game or the game that follows. Either way, all of the above is BS and you dont risk the safety of the young men or the fans starting a game so late, and sounds like crazy controversy ending the way it did. A complete shit show. Wouldn’t really had to have worried about throwing your aces if the regional tournament had stayed on a Tuesday/Thursday/Friday format
Stelley Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 22 minutes ago, Ryan4VT said: You’d have to worry about pitching on 4 days rest? Would mean they couldn’t throw more than 75 pitches and say that it’s 0-0 late in the ballgame and the pitcher is having a fantastic night, you’d have to pull them if you wanted them to throw in the quarters
Tigerman10 Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 I completely understand why the Blues are upset-if the shoe was on the other foot I’d feel the same way. That said, if the umpires called the game at the end of the 6th they would probably be less angry-I think the bad look for everyone is that Richlands was threatening. Gridiron60 1

The bad look for me being an outsider and no dog in who wins is that a bunch of adults somehow decided a game should start after 11pm for the first pitch. SwvaOG was spot on as usual, with his earlier post. How was it humanely possible that you had at least 5 or 10 adults in the stadium (ballpark) and a pitch was allowed to be tossed after 11pm Eastern Time? And we ask or complain or bitch and moan as to why our kids and our country is so F'd up? This is why. Someone should research what happened last night. How many times in the history of our country has a baseball game at any level (HS, College, MLB, Minor Leagues) had the game started after 11:09pm for that specific timezone in which it wasn't a promotional event or a double header? It's very very very rare and when it happens, its usually a promotional (minor league event) or the 2nd game of a double header that had a weather delay or its a weather delay where Team A is traveling to Team B and this is the final game in that 3 game series (for example, New York traveling to Oakland, etc.) Richlands and Lebanon are what? 30 minutes apart? It's amazing to me that they actually tossed a first pitch after 11pm for two schools 30 or so minutes apart, and that in order for that first pitch to occur after 11pm, there were x amount of adults that had to agree to it or allow it.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I don’t think the start time is that big of a deal-most teenagers stay up late all the time and then sleep in. The biggest issue to me isn’t the start time, it’s that they started the 7th. That fog was coming in on the camera in the 5th-best case scenario is that the umps say at the end of the 5th that they are going to get the top of the 6th in no matter what and everything after that is in danger.

Wonder wat would've happened if the coach refused to play and just left? Wonder if umps would've forfeited the game?
