Maybe I’m in the minority but I don’t think the start time is that big of a deal-most teenagers stay up late all the time and then sleep in.

The biggest issue to me isn’t the start time, it’s that they started the 7th.  That fog was coming in on the camera in the 5th-best case scenario is that the umps say at the end of the 5th that they are going to get the top of the 6th in no matter what and everything after that is in danger.

Since school is out session i mostly agree in regards to HS aged kids but when you factor in the parents who have to work the next day, coaches who may have to work next day etc…, 11pm start is gnarly. It’s like saying up for the late game in the old PAC-10 on Saturday nights. As a fan at home who can sleep in next day, it’s awesome. Having to be there and work the next day, yeah that sucks.

Wouldn’t really had to have worried about throwing your aces if the regional tournament had stayed on a Tuesday/Thursday/Friday format

This tournament was a mess. Why in the world did they wait and start Thursday? I kept saying Tuesday when talking about it bc I just assumed they’d still use the same format but nope, just crazy.

Except that Tazewell County is still in school and there were exams today. I don’t know if any players had one scheduled or not, but I know Coach Brown did, because he is my brothers teacher.  So while I typically agree that they stay up late, I don’t know that many would when they had an exam the next morning.

Because the state tournament didn’t start until June 9th and they didn’t want to end the regional tournament and have a full week off before state.

The life of a high school AD-Lebanon and Richlands agree to postpone softball because of field conditions in the district tournament and everyone was pissed.

Lebanon and Richlands agree to play despite a late start in the region tourney and it ends in disaster

I agree the game should have been played today IF Battle and Lee were also playing today. So they basically had two options and one was what they did last night and the other was create an unfair advantage for the winner of Lee/Battle

At least the softball field was actually unplayable because of the rain. Unlike the baseball field which could have easily played the Lee/Battle game closer to on time

True, but the seniors already graduated so they don’t have exams, and I’m sure teachers would have rescheduled.

I get it-I would be pissed if I was a parent or fan of the Blues.  A very tough spot for everyone involved.

Yep I think everyone would be mad if it was them and anyone who says they wouldn’t would be lying.
But after seeing all of the Facebook posts saying it’s a stain on Lebanons legacy and how they “didnt deserve” and “stole” a win is ridiculous. Lebanon didn’t have a say in the matter and to just assume that Richlands would have won is crazy

I don't remember anyone being upset with that. That softball field was a mud pit. One step on the field and the cleats had a pound of mud stuck to them. Someone could've easily gotten hurt that day with the field conditions

It was all over social- but Leb people said there were a lot of angry people at the field that day as well.

Wonder wat would've happened if the coach refused to play and just left? Wonder if umps would've forfeited the game?

That’s a good question. Did the Richlands coach only agree to it because he knew they would make him forfeit if he didn’t? It’s just the dumbest thing ever.

Fans on both sides were annoyed because Tazewell & Marion had finished a game 20 minutes before they decided the field was unplayable. Both teams were on the field warming up. I think that’s why there was some angst about that postponement. That and the fact they scheduled it for 11am on a weekday which knocked a lot of family/fans (myself included) out of going and I was never refunded for the cancellation.

Who assumes Richlands would have won? That’s not a crazy thought after they beat Union. Personally I cannot believe Lebanon wouldn’t insist on finishing the game. Why leave the question out there that you’re not the better team, that is the crazy part. I assumed Lebanon’s coaching staff produced a culture of winning on talent not winning whichever way you can get it. You cannot help but feel for the kids on both teams, especially the seniors and especially the Richlands seniors. That’s a tough way to go out.

Many comments are stating that Richlands didn’t lose and/or Lebanon didn’t win. Last I checked the scoreboard read 4-2 in favor of Lebanon and people are acting like that wasn’t the case, it’s not like the Richlands/Tazewell basketball game where Tazewell WOULD have won had the officials not messed up, Lebanon was winning and no umpires “robbed” Richlands POSSIBLY from winning. Lebanon did insist on finishing the game if the weather allowed but it wasn’t their call, an official was on the phone with VHSL and that’s who called the game.

There is no question on who the better team is. Lebanon won both regular season matchups and played like the better team by far in all of the games including the one on Tuesday/Wednesday.

How do you know that Richlands wouldn’t have won? You don’t know that and you cannot legitimately say that they would have lost. I looked it up and the regular season games were hardly a blow out. That game wasn’t finished and no one knows what would have happened if they would have been allowed to complete the full seven innings. Lebanon did score 4 runs in the first inning. They also didn’t score again after the first inning.

Like I said if winning on a technicality and not actually earning a win with a complete game is your thing and regurgitating the old VHSL called not Lebanon is what helps yall justify screwing over a group of kids than have fun with it  Lebanons win was not an earned win and that’s just a fact. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

Going back and forth doesn’t change anything either. Those kids deserved better. All of them.

No one from Lebanon screwed anyone over. Coach Brown had the chance to start the game yesterday but denied to do so. And how can you also say that Richlands would have won. You can’t say either but you also can’t say the Richlands is the better team when they were never beating Lebanon

And the scores don’t reflect how much better Lebanon was. The first game Lebanon had a perfect game through 4 innings and only gave up 1 hit, the second one Lebanon outhit Richlands 12-5.

I will say Richlands got the shaft. I don’t care what the coaches agreed on, the VHSL says, Richlands got royally screwed.
Figure out a way.

When you are down 4 to 2, not ahead, but down 2 and you have lost both regular season games to the same team, it's a bit of stretch to claim "screwed" status.

I can argue Lebanon got "screwed". This is basically the same argument of yours but the inverse. Lebanon shouldn't have been forced to start a game after 11pm, and "I dont care what the coaches agreed to or the VHSL said." The better team going into the game was Lebanon and playing tired and with fog unfairly evens the playing field and hurts what advantage Lebanon had. Also, because the game was called early, it was unfair to Lebanon because they didnt get to officially close it out for 3 wins on the year against Richlands and if Lebanon was allowed to finish the game, there would be little discussion, so Lebanon "got screwed."

I am not saying my above opinion is correct, but Im making the point that its not really different than having the opinion, " Richlands got screwed and would have won."

We are left with......one team led by 2 runs and that same team beat the other team 2 times previously. And I repeat and the part few have talked about.......the game started after 11pm in the fog. That dramatically levels the playing field and historically does hurt any advantages one team has over the other. It was a gigantic benefit to Richlands from the very second the first pitch occurred after 11pm because fatigue and fog make a game sloppy. If you are the underdog, you want that. In football, the slower team or team that is the underdog historically wants bad weather and rain. Why? It helps neutralizes the speed advantage if playing in a monsoon or rain storm. Fatigue and fog does the same thing in baseball.

*Coach Brown had the chance to start the game yesterday but he denied to do so*       Now you’re just flat out lying. To be honest I’ve never pegged you to make shit up.

Like I said, whatever it takes to help you justify it because you’re really working it every direction. Accepting a win you didn’t earn is screwy. Real competitors win on talent and merit. Accepting a regional win on a bullshit technicality and justifying it as a legit win is not what winners do.

Cold hard fact. The game was called before it was over and no one, not even you, can say who would have won that game with 7 complete innings. Lebanon may very well have took it but you cannot deny that Richlands could have scored the runs to win it.

All of the kids were screwed over by not allowing the game to be complete. The would’ve could’ve should’ves can go on until the end of time. It’s not going to change the fact that the kids were failed by adults on many different levels, from whoever allowed the game to start so late to whoever made the call to end a regional tournament game and not allow them to complete it at a later time. Those decisions taint the outcome of that game.

I think you might have thought I was referring to resuming the game yesterday. I was meaning that he had the option to choose not to play Tuesday and do it Wednesday. Which I think is what every high school coach would have done due to pitching

The game did start after 11pm, but the fog didn't start rolling in until the bottom of the 6th

Fog didn’t roll in until the 6th. But the dew was there the entire time. Felt like an mlb game because each time a baseball hit the ground at all they threw it over to the dugout
