I can argue Lebanon got "screwed". This is basically the same argument of yours but the inverse. Lebanon shouldn't have been forced to start a game after 11pm, and "I dont care what the coaches agreed to or the VHSL said." The better team going into the game was Lebanon and playing tired and with fog unfairly evens the playing field and hurts what advantage Lebanon had. Also, because the game was called early, it was unfair to Lebanon because they didnt get to officially close it out for 3 wins on the year against Richlands and if Lebanon was allowed to finish the game, there would be little discussion, so Lebanon "got screwed." I am not saying my above opinion is correct, but Im making the point that its not really different than having the opinion, " Richlands got screwed and would have won." We are left with......one team led by 2 runs and that same team beat the other team 2 times previously. And I repeat and the part few have talked about.......the game started after 11pm in the fog. That dramatically levels the playing field and historically does hurt any advantages one team has over the other. It was a gigantic benefit to Richlands from the very second the first pitch occurred after 11pm because fatigue and fog make a game sloppy. If you are the underdog, you want that. In football, the slower team or team that is the underdog historically wants bad weather and rain. Why? It helps neutralizes the speed advantage if playing in a monsoon or rain storm. Fatigue and fog does the same thing in baseball. Maybe u weren't aware that Richlands had bases loaded with 1 out. To me, thats what makes it look so badly. They were threatening. A postseason game should be finished in its entirety. Not saying Richlands would've won In that situation. Next 2 batters could've struck out. But we'll never know. And i think thats wrong. However I do agree playing in fog is dangerous. But why the decision to call it instead of finishing the next day? I dont know the rules on that but I know football does it all the time.

Im just not 100 percent sold it was a screw job or intentional. It looks bad for sure. I think....if the VHSL calls the game officially terminated due to weather, thats the final score if 5 full innings have been played and one team has the lead over the other. Don't quote me on this, but I think the game has to be played in its entirety if its the final 8 (state tournament). Some states have specific rules that override NFHS rules for terminating a game and whether it must be made up for Baseball. I dont think Va has any that override the NFHS, and not only that, I dont think the game is allowed to resume at a later date picking up where it left off, if its not a state tournament game and/if 5 full innings have been played. Someone would need to check this, but if its not a state tournament game and 5 full innings has been played and one team has the lead over the other and the game is called in the 6th or 7th due to weather, then not only is that the final score, but the game is not allowed to be resumed where it left off at a later date, even if both coaches were to agree to it. Smitty Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 It was safe to play until Richlands got the bases loaded with one out. Funny how that’s when Lebanon started crying about the fog. No one from Richlands was whining about the fog in the bottom of the sixth.
Sixcat Adjacent Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 I have no dog in this fight, but I'll offer what I believe is an unbiased opinion—though that may be a mistake. I don't believe anyone was intentionally wronged. Had the game been allowed to continue and Lebanon ended up losing, they would have had just as much grounds for a complaint. Given the unique circumstances, this situation was predictable from the outset. Once the decision was made to start the game so late in the evening, there was little chance it would end without controversy. The VHSL and the umpire crew set these events in motion by allowing such an ill-advised situation to occur in the first place. Gridiron60 and bleedblue89 2

The fence was completely gone for a while Nobody complained about anything to get the delay, can also tell that pretty easily on NFHS too, so I’d make sure you knew what you were talking about before commenting

When the umpires told the boys to take the field to resume play after the delay Lebanon coaches and fans were the only ones crying and whining while the kids were warming up.Umps reconvened again then called it.Not only will I comment now but I’m gonna come back for the foreseeable future and comment. There’s always going to be a question over that game.I will consider it my job to remind the people that any game they win going forward in postseason play is tainted by the shitshow allowed to happen on Tuesday. I might even comment every few months in case some people forget about it.Free speech gotta love it

Have had numerous people tell me that when that happened the outfielders were throwing their hands up and yelling that they couldn’t see and when they were throwing the ball up to each other in/above the lights it would disappear which likely did get the umpires attention Did hear that it had lifted but just enough to finally see the L in centerfield, which is only because there are no lights in center. Seen the BHC photos of after the game and it looks like a Halloween movie.

Exactly what I said they were whining when Richlands had the bases loaded with one out and got the delay then started up the crying again after the umps told the boys to take the field to finish. Richlands fan base was cheering to play and Lebanon fans were crying about the fog because at that point everyone knew the game was going to called and not suspended. You need a play by play post about it here it is.

First part is entirely not true. The field was definitely not playable is why everyone was voicing their opinion. And then it got worse after the umps reconvened and then called it. Have seen plenty of pictures showing there was no way they were playing in that

Whatever man. No one said a word to the umps to get them to go in a delay. Lebanon was comfortable where they were at. They’ve been the better team all year and have been in far bigger and more stressful situations than having a 2 run lead on a team that they’ve beat twice and struck them out 30ish times in the three games and outhit them BigWinners 1

But no one cheated them out of winning, other than maybe Mother Nature, Lebanon was winning the whole game and were up by 2 and VHSL says that 5 innings is a complete game and the field was no longer playable so they called it

Persiani and Rosenbaum, Gobble was available to pitch though for battle and didn’t and Lebanon went with Barton who throws from a funky arm slot and throws a lot of strikes. Battle hit it hard just right at guys, he threw the first 5 and only gave up 1 hit and then Lebanon brings one of their aces in Godsey and throws the final 2 innings

Lost in M7 semis, lost 2D final and sounds like barely made state tourney but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if they win it all. The talent is there, theyre good top to bottom. Lebanon seems alive too tho, if they can shut out a good hitting Battle team they can beat anyone. Fairlawncat 1

It's baseball and anything can happen for one game and I wouldnt county this bunch out. Could lose next week or go on and win the entire thing.
