Fairlawncat Posted May 29 Report Posted May 29 Region C, Class 1 Baseball Scores (Regionals) Fort Chiswell slid past P. McCluer 29-0. Up 26 to 0, FC kicked a Field Goal to close it out 29-0. Giles beat Bath County 21-3. Bath added a late field goal, but it was too little too late as Giles got 3 early touchdowns to put it out of reach. In Class 2, defending state champion Appomattox, the 1 seed, got upset by the 8th seed-Liberty. Quote

There have been several times over the years when VH was probably the best AA team in Va if a best of 3, or 5, or 7 games were played and they didnt win it. Best of 5 is too difficult for HS schedules. Even though VH won a bunch, they were probably the best AA team in Va quite a few more times than what they won it. Same for Tazewell in the late 80's/early 90s. There is lots of chance involved in Baseball and you take away chance by having a best of 7 or best of 5, or at least in HS ball, a best of 3 series. North Carolina plays a best of 3 series starting in the state semifinals contests. Va is just back asswards. Wouldn't surprise me if Richlands won the state title. I doubt they will, but anything can happen for one 7 inning game in HS baseball without a follow on game or best of 3 series. Quote

But while the VHSL has probably heard many complaints that the postseason should be a series, they decide to space the regional tournament over an entire week this year, games should have stayed Tuesday/Thursday/Friday or Tuesday/Friday/Saturday. That doesn’t show who the better teams are in the slightest. Hope the state tournament isn’t going to follow the same format Fairlawncat 1 Quote
Westisthebest Posted May 29 Report Posted May 29 Ive wanted to see series for years as well. But im not sure for 1A and 2A. Especially in softball, teams are lucky to have 1 good pitcher. They may have more, but usually are just batting practice. Pretty rare to see a 1A or 2A softball team have 2 very good aces. Esp in our area. Quote
