Not too familiar with any of the 2c teams left, you’d be more in the know than I, would region D be favored over whoever comes out of C? Patrick County has definitely had more success recently that the rest of the field but pretty sure most if not all of those guys have graduated. Quote
Fairlawncat Posted June 1 Author Report Posted June 1 In all reality, if a 7 game series, Battle heads above all of C as is Lebanon. Lee and Richlands are slightly Dogs against Glenvar. Edge to Glenvar over Richlands and Lee due to senior leadership. Region C favorite is Glenvar who just has a phenomenal senior class in all sports. Patrick County and Dan River are about the same. Richlands and Lee are slightly better than both Patrick County and Dan River, and then Liberty is a huge underdog. What does all of the above mean? Nothing. Because Va doesnt play a best of 3 series and a team like Richlands or Dan River could easily play for a state semifinal. If you have any kind of pitching, you have got a chance, and here is the danger for some teams historically. I do NOT know if this is the case for Richlands, but there have been state champs that had a young pitcher that is super-talented and he starts the year and struggles and the team gets some fairly close losses, then the kid starts to rapidly mature through the season and by playoff time, he's one of the best pitchers in the state. That's the sneaky part about Baseball in Va that is hard to gauge. Favorites are easily and clearly D, but it only takes 21 outs, 7 quick innings for a Richlands or Lee High to play near perfect and Battle and Lebanon are out, then the field is nearly evened up. I can't state how dissatisfied I am with Va High School Baseball and not having best of 3 series. If I were a betting man. I would go Glenvar vs Battle/Lebanon, but betting on HS baseball in Va is foolish. Zero surprises if it were Richlands vs Dan River. I've watched baseball in Va for far to long to know better. I would argue on more than 50 percent of the years, the best team doesn't win the title if it were a best of 3 series. Stelley 1 Quote

Two weeks ago, I'd have put 1D slightly ahead of 1C but Auburn is playing their best baseball of the season right now. They are always a dangerous team at the Class 1 level. Fort Chiswell has been a bit off since graduation two weeks ago. If Jackson is pitching, they can beat any remaining team. If he's not, they could lose to any remaining team. Stelley 1 Quote

PH is legit-they hit it throughout the lineup and Hicks is formidable. I do think they lack pitching depth, so the Fri/Sat format could hurt them Quote

No. Maxpreps was right. I just typed it wrong. I have only seen Fort Chiswell with Jackson and haven't seen any other 1C teams or 1D teams. In Class 2, I've seen every team in C. C is down. Quote

Possibly an excuse, possibly some truth to it. I don't know. What I do know, Auburn is not the same team they were in April. Is the improvement enough to reverse a 7-run loss? We'll soon find out, I believe. Region C (Class 1 & 2) is down across the board in boys athletics right now. Pick a sport. I think you'll find them down from recent years. Quote
pdfan Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Dan River beat Liberty 5-4 in 8 innings, with Liberty scoring 2 in the top of the 8th and DR coming back to score 3 in the bottom for the win. In the 2nd game Patrick Co scored 1 in the top of the 8th and held Glenvar scoreless in the bottom for the 11-10 victory. PC was down 7-3 in the fifth but put 7 on the board to go up 10-7, only for Glenvar to score 3 in the bottom of the 7th to send it to extra innings. PC and DR will meet at 6:00 Thursday at Hooker Field in Martinsville for the region championship. Stelley 1 Quote
Fairlawncat Posted June 3 Author Report Posted June 3 The above is just what we talked about regarding chance and no best of three series in baseball. Glenvar had beat Patrick County a few times this year and was the best team I saw in Region C. They beat Patrick County by over 10 runs in 1 of the games. One weird game, and your season is over. What's also weird is how Liberty nearly ended up in the region title game and going into the post season, they had about 2 losses for every 1 win, and came up 1 run short of being in the region finals. Same thing about happened to Battle last night. Combines to beat Lee 26-0 in the regular season and then a pretty uncharacteristic game almost costed them the season Fairlawncat 1 Quote

Fairlawncat Posted June 5 Author Report Posted June 5 Patrick County comes back from being down 7 and beats Dan River 10-4 to claim the 2C Baseball title. Keep your eyes on Strasburg in baseball up in the Valley. Their schedule isn't as tough as most other Class 2 schools, but much like in football, they have a dominant senior class and they are laying the hammer on opponents all year long. Quote

Pretty sure they have a first round matchup with King William who IIRC has one of if not the best pitcher in all of class 2. Should be a good one Quote

pdfan Posted June 6 Report Posted June 6 PC made 6 errors in the first 2 innings but Dan River could only put 3 runs on the board. PC took a 7-3 lead in the 4th or 5th and added on for the 10-4 win. I don't think, in my opinion, that PC or DR have anything for Battle or Lebanon. Quote

Been hearing that Dan River has a pretty solid arm but just zero offense so it could end up being a pretty good game. And if Patrick County were to make 6 errors that would end up being a 5 inning ballgame. BigWinners 1 Quote
