Fairlawncat Posted June 3 Author Report Posted June 3 Liberty is actually 9 and 14. Was 7 and 14 entering the playoffs and they are actually not very good, but not bad either. They are average. The did play a very tough schedule with many schools around the Lynchburg area. But, they seem to get blown out or they win big. Again, baseball and softball is such a game of chance and how they got to the region finals, I have no idea. Their boys about pulled off the same feat being down to 1 out yesterday and they would also be in the regional finals and both boys and girls had a similar record. I hate to say this because I could eat my words. Even in a game of heavy chance (a little bit of luck involved compared to football and basketball) Liberty has borderline no chance against Appos gals. Those young women from Appo can hit it and pitch it and field it. Would be a damn miracle if they somehow beat Appo. I would bet Appo wins by 10 runs or more. You think about the biggest upset you can recall in HS sports of any kind. It would be that level if Liberty pulled it off. But, baseball and softball, there's a chance compared to other team sports. RichlandsAlum Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 Liberty benefits greatly from playing in the Seminole District, whose best teams are at least as good as anything LHS will usually face within Class 2. Points system gives them a pretty easy path to qualifying for regional playoffs every year. And the softball program has a decent tradition of success (won the Class 3 state title in 2019 before dropping down). In any given year my opinion is that they are at a competitive level equal to top 10 in Class 2 -- but the record against a steady slate of Class 3 and 4 schools tends to put them under the radar. All of that said.... highly likely that Liberty will lose big against Appomattox. But I wouldn't be shocked to see them play well against either Lee High or Richlands. Quote

Im sure appomattox has a good team but man they havent played anyone decent outside of a couple teams. I know they have 2 strong pitchers. But I believe Lee and Richlands has a chance against them Quote

1inStripes Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 Both have a chance because they have good pitching, but Fuller and Westin or Taylor will need to bring their A game to beat Appo. Wouldn't hurt if Chloe Vaughn had an off night though because Appo is gonna be a tough out. Quote

Appo, not so much on their level of difficulty, but they did what they were supposed to do. They just destroyed/demolished opponents. Quote

Well if you're referring to Richlands, we can't help who's in our district, the same for appomattox. Richlands played a tough OoD schedule. But still by looking at records, they played some very bad teams. I still know appomattox is tough and is usually always tough. Like the poster said they did what they were supposed to. I know they lost some offensive firepower from last year. But in no way was I saying they would be an easy win. They've just not been in close games, and if Lee or Richlands can keep it close, I think they have a chance. Quote
