Even though injuries are going to limit Va High’s ability to compete against the top teams in 2D, they should easily handle what’s going on at Richlands. Should be a good spectacle at Southern Gap with the official first game. On the field stuff will be secondary. Quote
Gridiron60 Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 Not that my opinion matters but Week 0 games are dumb for lack of a better word. Also, not that my opinion matters but since the question was posed, Southern Gap/Holston. stu_bean, Real Sasquatch, Hokiebird7 and 1 other 4 Quote

Hopefully, that’s corrected in the next cycle and no one’s AD decides to make their own schedule independent of the master schedule for the district. Quote
Fairlawncat Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 Whatever you give (playing in "week zero,") you also get back. If you play in "week zero" and most other teams do Not play in week zero, then this means that around week 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 or whatever, you get an off week to get healthy for the playoffs. It's ain't all bad to play in week zero and if used correctly, it could serve as an advantage. Quote
1inStripes Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 The second bye if you can spread things out can be a nice advantage. Quote

I can see that if the bye weeks are spread out & you’ve got banged up players but I like the idea of everyone having two scrimmage type games and then starting Week 1 regular season for all teams. I think it all depends on what kind of look you are able to get at practice. If you only got high 20s low 30s and you cant get a look at practice then you really need those games to see what you got. But Teams in the 40s have a better shot of giving the ones an completive look. I do not care either way just giving you something to think about. Gridiron60 1 Quote
redtiger Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 Imo for Botetourt the Week 0 game works out VERY well. Rye Cove will be scrappy and physical but stand no chance of winning. They will give LB a very good look that gives them another bye week and most of their guys will get in the game. For RC, as well as VA High and Richlands its less than optimal Quote
KW23 Posted August 18 Author Report Posted August 18 Saw where Twin Springs host Providence Academy in another Week 0 game....is Providence Academy any good or are they some garbage tn private school? Quote
redtiger Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 https://www.maxpreps.com/tn/johnson-city/providence-academy/football/25-26/schedule/ Last year Providence went 4-6 with a 48-27 Loss to West Greene, the Knights were the lone win for the Buffaloes... Quote
1inStripes Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 Daniel Kilgore (DB, App State, SanFran) was the coach at Providence that just started up the program 3 or so years ago. He departed late this spring after this game was agreed to and their new coach came in from the Chattanooga area I believe. Hes a little more passing game dominant than Kilgore was, but it will be interesting to see how it goes with the changes at TS as well. TS will have some good young athletes on the field. Quote
SXSW Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 Providence is a growing program, and a lot of parents are choosing private education in the Tri-Cities. Tri-Cities Christian should be up and running in 2027 it will interesting to see how many students the syphon off from West Ridge, DB and Dainel Boone and North Greene. The school is at the Tri Cities Crossing exit just past the I-81 & I-26 interchange. Robbie Norris is the Head Coach and AD there now. Quote
SXSW Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 Oh, in TSSAA week zero games Baylor plays Brentwood, but the SW Virginia game for me is Southern Gap-Holston Quote
IRISH-FAN18 Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 How did Holston look in their scrimmage? For a team that always lacks depth they're always a pretty game opponent. Quote

Baylor has the 2nd rank rb in the nation DGG, they also have Peyton Manning son but he doesn't get any playing time, I don't know exactly where he is on Baylor qb depth chart Me personally Alcoa vs Maryville there's nothing like this rivalry, got there about and hour an a half before kickoff last year and we were standing, I need to be there by 5 this year or earlier SXSW, JDHoss and redtiger 3 Quote
Wolf1207 Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 I look for week 0 to expand. Especially in SWVA as schedules will continue to be difficult complete. That would allow for more games against Tn schools and the dreaded Ky schools and their officials. Quote
Union_Fan Posted August 19 Report Posted August 19 Being at SG for that initial game will be very special for the community. If I'm the least bit interested in SG sports, I'm not going to miss it. There's nothing like that brand new team coming out for the first time and initiating the traditions that will be part the county for many years to come. Gridiron60 1 Quote
