Bcats Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 DB comes rolling into hostile territory after two crushing 1pt defeats in the last minute to Knox Central and Asheville NC. I remember just a few short years back DB had over 100 players that 5 to 6 kids had duplicate numbers and now they're around 50 or less players. I seen DB lose plenty of times but I never seen them get manhandled like GC did them last year. GC punish DB on the LOS. I do think DB comes out flat at first after what happened in their 1st two games but I think they're a little too much for GC and I'll go DB 38-17, I'll love to be wrong here, I'm pulling for GC, man that would be good for SWVA if GC wins this game Quote

UnionGuy2017 Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 I’m hoping Gate City can close them out this time, but I just don’t see it. DB had a multiple possession lead in the 4th quarter of their first game and lost to Asheville on the last second. I don’t think the sky is falling like some do, I think it’s just the same ole DB whose only goal is to beat Science Hill. Gate City has the skill players to win and they will absolutely be more physical. Does the line have enough depth? DB 35 GC 20 Quote
Union_Fan Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 With GC being on Hudl, can't see any film on them. Don't know what they have or how deep. We'll have a great idea after Friday though. I think this game is a toss-up. Wouldn't be surprised if either won by 14 pts or less. I would be surprised by a blowout. Quote
GC_Quincy Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 I watched us play a bunch of freshmen and sophomores last week but I loved seeing them flying around and hitting people. DB's offense looks better this year but their defense hasn't improved since last year. I read somewhere they plan on double teaming Jenkins and I hope they do. If they think he's all we have at WR then they may have a rough night. I've heard they've sold a ton of tickets already so I expect an old time Legion Field experience Friday night. If it's close at the end I like our chances. JDHoss and Minj3 2 Quote
JDHoss Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 I can't put into words how badly I want Gate City to pull this off. D-B is 0-2, but Central and Asheville are decent 5-6A programs. I think it'll be a repeat of last year. The Blue Devils will give D-B all they can handle for 4 quarters, but probably come up short due to not having the depth. Legion Field will be rocking, and hopefully that can maybe get them over the hump and to the end. All of Southwest VA is rooting for them! Quote
vol_husky Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 I think Gate City will give their best effort, but I don’t know that I see them winning this game. I would like to see the Indians get beat by a school much smaller than they are (besides Greeneville or Elizabethton). I always hope Greeneville and Elizabethton lose. DB unfortunately wins by 1 or 2 TDs. Quote

BigWinners Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 DB by 40. GC has nothing for them, theyre slow, soft and can’t hold a candle to the NE TN athletes. GC is just lucky DB agreed to grace that cow pasture they call a field with their presence. post this in the locker room boys. Go steal DBs soul i tried to change the color and hide the real message but I can’t remember rhe HTML code for color ob here lol Quote
KW23 Posted September 1 Report Posted September 1 I agree with the cow field part....that field was horrendous when rye cove hosted grayson Quote
SXSW Posted September 1 Report Posted September 1 Can Gate City win, sure they can, but will they? Gate City has enough athletes to stack up to anyone in Southwest Virginia not named Graham. but they are still a very young team, and I think the experience factor favors DB. I think this will a close game for 3 plus quarters, but GC can't turn the ball over, they fumbled three times against Richlands. That being said I pick DB by the slightest of margins, DB 31-GC 28. I hope I am wrong and have to eat crow, it hurt every fiber of my being to type the score prediction, if GC does win, I will celebrate with the team on the field. GC_Quincy 1 Quote

If we give them extra opportunities we could be in for a long night. We're headed in the right direction but the youth has me worried. I hope they prove me wrong. I'll be there hollerin regardless. I'm not saying all but I'm sure most of SWVA will be pulling for yall, I know i am. A school with around 2500 kids to see GC take them down would be great, I will be hollering with you GC_Quincy and vol_husky 2 Quote

BTW the only way you'll ever be able to get me on Rocky Flop is to watch the Bears:), I avoid that state like the plague:). Here's hoping the Bears and Devils show them TN fellers how we do it in SWVA:) GC_Quincy and Bcats 2 Quote

Fairlawncat Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 DB lost to Asheville by a point. Want to see big boy football and a comparison? Asheville plays NC powerhouse Crest High this week. Asheville is absolutely about to get the daylights beat out of them this week and will be 2-1 by halftime. They lost to Crest last year 55-12. Quote
Great City Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 Would love to see us pull this one out, but it is going to be rough. Home atmosphere will help. Would love to see the authentic steam whistle pull into Legion Field around 7:15 PM Friday evening. 🙂 We have to be at least +2 in the turnover margin, and not give up any special teams TD's. Last year we used our OL and a big RB to pound the ball. We out rushed DB something like 290-55. When we needed 4-5 yards, we got it. Not sure we can do that this year. This year we are looking to break the long run. Our corners are on an island playing press coverage. Going to have to get quick pressure on the QB so our corners do not have to stay in coverage several seconds. Should be an old time Legion Field atmosphere..........as long as the weather is decent. Can't wait. Quote
Minj3 Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 Really cool to see so many VA - TN face offs these days, especially this one. Knowing the culture between GC and DB it’s exciting. They’ve shared a lot of students from Lynn Garden (TN) through the years and many faculty at GC live in Kingsport. Fun match up. Hats off to Houseright and the GC admin for saying no to nepotism, building a historic program back to notoriety, and scheduling awesome opponents. It’s hard to beat GC at Legion. GC 35 - DB 31 I love TN vs VA matchup, I'm always going to pull for Va but I don't think there's enough games between the two states Right now in the early season TN is ahead 4-2 TN wins are Providence Academy over Twin Springs, Cumberland Gap over Thomas Walker, I already pencil in TN HiGH over Va High and Baylor over Loudoun Sports Academy. Baylor is currently the best team in TN, ranked 11th in the nation, their RB DGG makes 2mil while in high school, they're so loaded that Peyton Manning son is on the team but he sits the bench VA wins J.I Burton over Unaka and I already pencil in Union over Boone Two more to go tonight GC vs DB and Twin Springs vs Unaka Quote
1inStripes Posted September 4 Report Posted September 4 Id say pencil in TS over Unaka as well. Steve Wilmouth hinted in this weeks Prep Picks of a new TN vs Va series next year. I suspect it's DB vs Union. That being said I have heard GC expected to retain DB but it sounds like DB isn't wanting to keep it alive. I hope I have heard wrong on that. Bcats 1 Quote
Wolf1207 Posted September 5 Report Posted September 5 Gate City has nothing to hang their heads at. I didn't see the first half, but what I saw in the second was impressive. I think they will have something for Union and RV when they both come to Legion Feild later in the season. Quote

Union_Fan Posted September 5 Report Posted September 5 Great game for the Blue Devils. So close. Probably close enough 2 years in a row that DB refuses to play another cycle. Quote
