  1. [ QUOTE ]

Miami will always be Thug U.

Notre Dame vs. Miami - Catholics vs. Convicts

    [/ QUOTE ]

That pretty much sums it up. With all their team speed they usually have, they still can't out-run that reputation. Miami's certainly not one of my favorite team's, but I still root for them from time to time, especially against VT. Butch Davis had that program kinda cleaned up for a little while, but it slowly went back to Hell under Cocker, at least the notoriusly "thug" Miami teams of the 80's and early 90's won a big game once in a while.

Hey, there's a reason that "Miami Vice" was made in Miami. It's not just the team, it's the entire city that seems to earn that rep.

WVU is taking care of their "thugs." They released 3 players and and 3 good ones at that for being friendly with Mary J. There was no questions asked.....just pack your crap and go. Unlike many other schools who continue allow their little guys chance after chance. Do I need to name them or are we too stupid to figure some out?

    [/ QUOTE ]

As opposed to Frank Beamer letting Marcus Vick back on the team after his "fine" influence with the young people in the area. We ALL got to see the result of that in the Gator Bowl.

Whatever little respect I had for Beamer before that was lost forever. Say what you like about Rodriquez, but he didn't put up with much of that crap, and to-date, doesn't look like Coach "Stew" is either.

Can't speak for the rest of the MED, but Narrows looks to be at least one year away from being a front runner. QB Lowe is back (not sure if that's a pro or con).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is Narrows planning on running the spread offense again this year?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    God, I hope not! lol

Seriously though, with Kelly Lowe running the show it would surprise me to see them try to go to an Arena Football set before it's all said and done....or better yet, a 5 linemen, 1 QB 5 RB set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd say you do hope not, the coaching staff needs to lay off the wacky weed when planning their offense, I don't know what made them think that would work.

Narrows did better when they ran a T-formation and made a big mistake going away from it IMO.

  4. [ QUOTE ]

I never thought I'd see the day the Shotgun offense was ran in Monroe Co.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What do you think the single wing is?

We did it some under Jackson with Ben Thornton and Nick Newberry in 98, 99, 2001 and 2002. Like I said earlier though, it was just part of the puzzle.

Guess it would've been nice to have included the link to the story, I need to start previewing my posts a little more often.

To the few folks at Graham who are accusing JM of being "afraid" to play them, give it a rest. Do you really think we're playing Bluefield every year if we're afraid of Graham, quit flatering yourselves.

Plus all that, don't think that Jackson will intentionally schedule weak teams. Anyone who knows anything about the business part of sports know that at the HS level the athletic director has as much and in most cases, more authority in scheduling than the coach, and until this past year, Danny Wickline was the AD over Witt and Jackson, so ironically, Witt will still play a major role with the program, just not the play-calling.

If it were totally upto me the schedule would look something like this:

    Bluefield

    Princeton

    Greenbrier East

    Woodrow Wilson

    Giles

    Wyoming East

    Mount View

    Graham

    Oak Hill

    Nicholas Co.

But, unfortanetly, I don't rule the world-yet, so it is what it is.

Someone asked what offense Jackson runs, it's a little of everything-I, Wing T, Double Wing, Shotgun 4and 5WR, Pro-set. Whereas the Single Wing under Witt relied primarily on the O-Line, Jackson's schemes are somewhat more QB-centric. Several teams under Jackson at JM and Peterstown had good success with sub-par passing games, but if you have a good passer like say, Chad Johnston, it's very hard to prepare for defensively. It doesn't alawys work this way, but Jackson typically like to go 50-50 run-pass.

  7. Saw this on the "new" coach. What little doubt there was that the single wing has flown out of Monroe Co. should now be completely gone.

Jackson was right about one thing, football is hard to get out of your system. He was at alot of games the last 5 years, you could tell he missed it.

  8. Saw this earlier today and wasn't terribly surprised. Sad that he and Pacman were arguably the 2 best players out of WVU in the past decade, and both have been little more than a major black eye since.

I saw where Pacman is trying to get it together hopefully he does, these 2 guys have been on the verge of plushing their carrers down the toilet for a while. No coincidence that these 2's last year in Morgantown was 2004, 2 underacheivers on a team that was full of them that year.

Maybe Jone, Henry, and the Vick brother's can all go to Dallas, Marcus would love it their, heard they're letting 12 and 13 year old girls in the bars & strip clubs in big D.

I also find it funny how much Hillary reminds me of Pedro's opponent from Nepoleon Dynamite. "I promise to give you a soda machine on every floor of our high school and make lunch time twice as long"

Well it was Hillary's sister in that movie-Hillary Duff's

  10. [ QUOTE ]

I see us going 8-2. This is a tough schedule and it would be a great acomplishment to escpae it with 2 losses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes it would be. Biggest thing looking at that is for them is to get a decent start. Nothing against Graham, Princeton, or Oak Hill, but those are all pretty much must win games. I've seen Bluefield start 0-2 and 1-3 and get in the playoffs, but that would be very tough to pull off.

If they do win 8 games, then Simon is a better coach than I've ever thought he is.

A-rod is making more money than the entiire Florida Marlins roster. In a related topic, who beat the Yankees last time they went to the World Series? you guessed it.

Bottom line is the Yankees are arguably the most under-acheiving team in sprots the last 4-5 years. Only thing that's getting you less bang for your buck these days is a gallon of gasoline.

  12. [ QUOTE ]

It will be interesting to see what happens with him when he gets with some coaches that know how to coach that type of an athlete. He has never been in an offense where he was really able to turn his speed loose. I wonder what kind of numbers he would have had at a school like Nitro or Martinsburg.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That about the truth. Beckley Football has under-acheived for years. I said a couple of years ago that it was Bob Lilly's time to go, but I guess it's hard to get rid of a guy with that last name in Raleigh County.

  13. [ QUOTE ]

    Ansel Ponder:

    squat- upper 400s

    bench- 295

    40 time- 4.45

    vert.- 34 inch

    height- 6'3

yeah...he wouldnt help WVU at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe he would, maybe wouldn't. Pretty sure him being almost completely shut down by a 5' 8" sophomore corner twice against James Monroe didn't help his recruiting status. Overall I'd say he would help WVU, however looks like he's going to W. Michigan, I think he'll be OK, IMO Cole didn't go to him enough in the games I saw him play this year.

As for WVU, I'd say they'll be about 60% run, 40% pass, as opposed to 85 run 15 pass. Admit it or not, Slaton and Schmidt will be missed, and Devine can run the ball every play. I think this is a great opportunity for White, if he's to have any chance at the next level, his passing game needs MAJOR improvement, it wouldn't have happended under Rodriguez.

Quite honestly I'd be VERY surprised if White isn't the starter. I'll say this, legal problems or not, I'd pick him over Michael Vick anyday of the week.
