  1. As well he should have.

This is the Heisman Trophy, given to the best all-around player in college football. Not the "I-Kept-My-Team-From-Going-10-and-2" Award. Vince Young would definitely deserve that.

Also note that if LenDale White wasn't a pro-quality running back, those numbers would be CONSIDERABLY higher.

He's averagin' somethin' like 10.2 yards every time he touches the football. That's a first down if you give it to him. He also returns punts, and has a couple of touchdowns on that. Vince Young is good, but Reggie Bush could well be a future Hall-of-Famer. They say the next Gale Sayers, and I say that is grossly underestimatin' him. He'll be an impact player right away with the Texans.

I don't know what all the USC-hatred is 'bout. I'm not fond of them, I wish they'd lose one every now-and-again. If it's over the VT-USC game a year ago, that's childish. This year's crop of college players was fantastic, and Reggie Bush happened to be superior to them. Vince Young is great. Reggie Bush is phenomenal.

USC came back against Notre Dame, Oregon, and Oregon State, if I'm not mistaken, which I well may be.

  2. No, they were rightfully ranked 9th, behind Argentina, Germany, and England.

Regardless, they should advance out of the region.

Here are my predictions, 7 months early, via the U.S. region:

    1. Italy

    2. United States

    3. Czech Republic

    4. Ghana

  3. I think the United States didn't get as bad a draw as everyone is hypin' it up to me. Italy is difficult, no doubt, but the United States was ranked 9th (accordin' to ESPN) goin' into the draw, so it's logical we're gonna have to face one of the top eight. Italy should be a loss. Ghana should be a win. The Czech Republic game should be a hard-fought win, and that's the game on which the United States' fate turns, and it's a shame it has to be the first one. I think if the U.S. is in any other bracket, it's as bad. You wouldn't want to face Brazil, Argentina, or Germany in the first round, so I don't think it's that bad.

On the numbers, the 350 million people who turned in to watch the draw tuned in from all over the world. Compared with the Superbowl, which gains a 75-80% American draw, the 350 million people out of 6.1 billion has less of a television draw as the Super Bowl in the United States: 50 million (approximately in the U.S. alone) out of 300 million. Take into effect that many people around the world are poverty-stricken (in the neighborhood of 1.7 billion outside the U.S.), it's pretty close to the same magnitude, given that American football is an American phenomenon.

  4. I agree. It's hard enough to make it to a state title game. Just ask any Graham fan...

Richlands deserves all the credit in the world for how the season went. There's a sayin' comin' out of the locker room at UVA that I've had the opportunity to see, and it says: "The Better Team Always Wins". Richlands was just not the better team in this game. They were the better team in the first thirteen times they played, and that's somethin' to be proud of. There's no shame in second; hold your heads high Blues, you did yourself proud, you did the Southwest District proud, and you did southwest Virginia proud.

  5. Haha, thanks for catchin' that.

I agree with that, if Bobby Cox pulls this off, he should be considered the most versatile manager in the business today. It'll be fun to watch, regardless. I think the Cubs will win it this year...Red Sox in '04, White Sox in '05, since there are no more "Sox", gotta go with the other cursed team, maybe the Indians in '07, who knows!

  6. I honestly don't think they're on their way to #15, as much as I'd love to see it.

Leo Mazzone, the man who's basically maintained a pitching lineup that has had longevity like no other, isn't there any more, he's in New York. I think New York has to be the favorite goin' into next season for that fact alone. If a man can help Jorge Sosa look like Pedro Martinez (at times), he's got a lot of value.
