  1. Why did Bluefield get out out of the man-to-man defense? Held PV to 4 first quarter points and then went to a zone the second quarter.

I'm still trying to figure that one out. Man to man had PV flustered, they couldn't do anything!! Then they just ate our zone up by nailing 3 after 3. Buster has to adjust to that QUICKER.

  2. I have noticed that Graham seems to have a lot of heart and they hustle the whole game. If they could improve on their free throws, & cut down on missing some easy shots they will be even tougher to beat. Carlock seems to really have them playing as a team this year.

I saw the game in Princeton & I saw the game last night. All I can say is hats off to the G-Men! You guys played with heart last night and you should be proud of yourselves. Just work on those free throws. LOL!! The Marrs kid was on a roll with the 3 straight 3's. That was a fun game to watch & I hope it was as fun to all that played.

  3. I knew it wouldn't be long until someone brought up the fact that Tommy Symns didn't play and if he had played, the outcome would have been different. The way that both teams played last night, it would not have made much of a difference in the outcome. I thought both teams were sloppy but Bluefields athleticism and depth was too much for Pikeview to overcome last night. One thing is for sure, the next two games will be great battles.

    Is Tommy injured?

  4. It is a long trip, I actually enjoyed the fact that when the game was over I was in my kitchen. It's good yall enjoyed it to, I see your son went.

Bluefield's white on white uniforms are 1 of my favorites, they used to be the most common away uniform except in inclement weather, but 1st time they've worn those in a while that I can recall.

Listening to the radio, I couldn't tell what the factor was for wayne's success on the ground against bluefield, but knowing wayne, it was likely their misdirection and fakes, it's always been effective against bluefield's reacting d. It's 1 of the tougher types of o bluefield faces for them in my opinion. They execute exceptionally. Wayne county is located up on the ky border and is around 30 minutes south of huntington. They've always had enthusiastic fans, they're a quality program that is very consistent overall.

As for bluefield's o, that's been an up and down changing side of the ball all season because of adversity and factors really beyond their controll, with all due respect to them, I don't think they were ever as strong on o as they were in the 1st 3 games of the season with their qb at 100% with the wildcat o scheme.

Their o had 4 distinct phases that I saw, only my opinion, but there was the initial wildcat, the very 1 demensional style they used against ccds after the qb was injured, and against gate city. Then they had the phase were lilly was qb with a lot of changes in style and play with the sophomore rb put into the scheme, and then their qb returned as a starter the last regular season game and through the playoffs and that had a much different feel to it.

All in all, even though they had some high scoring games against some lesser opponents, I honestly don't think they ever really clicked on o with so much change after their qb was injured in game 4.. Early in the season it seemed their o matched their d is strength almost.

At the end of the season and through the playoffs, most contenders should be and most were on top of their game and playing like a well oiled machine, bluefield's o, while they did what they had to do, never matched the potential of their players overall, in my opinion. They simply had to much change throughout the season on o to be clicking the way other contenders were through the playoffs. If that makes any sense.

In this game it seemed they were more content to be less aggressive, relying on their d, and if I had to guess there must have been good reason that lilly hardly touched the ball in the 3rd or 4th.

But they wisely adapted overall and earned the title. Congrats to them again.

    ..

I wish we would have driven home last night!!! Good grief we passed at least 8 accidents, most of them serious on the way home today. We traveled 20 miles in an hour and a half leaving St. Clairsville, OH. What a game by the Beavers. Not flashy but they got the job done. Congratulations to all the players and student body.

  5. Well, if the Big East would quit playing their games on the same night as the high schools, there wouldn't be a problem...Friday night is for High School football, not College football...

Amen brother. Friday night IS high school night. Coach Simon chose Friday night as I had hoped.

  6. I was on the team the 2 years they played sullivan south, they were 9 - 0 and 2nd or 3rd in the state in tn in aaa and they traveled to bluefield and we defeated them 21 - 7, then defeated them by a score down there in '83, but had to forfeit the game some time later. Of course you know this.

I personally thought it was an easy away game, 2 hours travel down 81 most of the way basically and better than going up the turnpike to charleston. It was really enjoyable that the teams ate our pregame meals together, they ate in our cafeteria and we ate in theirs down there, down there we all sat amongst each other and talked, that was different but made for a really fun time.

They're another team bluefield should consider scheduling if possible in my opinion.

eta it was cold down there, 1 of the coldest games I recall

Buzz, remember how nice the school was? Wasn't it brand new when we were down there?

  7. As for a lot of wv aa teams not scheduling bluefield, be honest, does bluefield or their fans really gain anything from scheduling a lot of these teams, is anyone really enthusiastic about these games even when the few of them are played?

Keyser seems to be looking for games a lot, I read that bridgeport was looking to upgrade their schedule, and the surry county area in nc just beyond the va border would be a place to check for games.

We had to play Sullivan South my Sophmore year at BHS. Way back in the 80's, guess we have always had to travel. LOL!! It was very very cold that.

  8. Liberty raleigh had more size that I expected, they play hard. Early bluefield seemed to have lots of penalties to slow them down, before starting to assert themselves in the 2nd quarter. We left before intermission, when it was at 28, turned on the radio it seems that at 56- 0 bluefield has turned it up..

When did Urban Meyer start coaching at Liberty Raleigh? 2 or 3 kids had their eyes poked pretty good.

  9. I actually think I'm going to take it easy on them. The fact that what I've been preaching about for several weeks actually happened to them is almost enough for me to sit back and grin about the whole situation without really giving them a boatload of crap...

    NAH!!! LOL!!!!

You've got a fan club over there now!

  10. I actually think I'm going to take it easy on them. The fact that what I've been preaching about for several weeks actually happened to them is almost enough for me to sit back and grin about the whole situation without really giving them a boatload of crap...

    I didn't think so. LOL!!!!
