Don't know how, but Grundy wins 73-71. Wave gets a bucket AND 2 free throws with :05 left to get their first lead of the night and Richlands misses the last shot.
I think the principals will meet Friday to determine who plays in a playoff game Sat. at Tazewell.
The Lady Waves beat Richlands 61-35 to finish 17-3, 7-1 and will host the SWD tourney next week at Riverview E/M (4.6 miles below the traffic light, going towards Pikeville).
Monday night : Grundy is the #1 seed, Carroll Co. #2.
Seems like I remember Garden competing in the LPD tourney when they tried wrestling a few years.
The VHSL has "moved" the Hogo to Region D for Regionals, since so few D schools have teams.
I've know lots of people over the years who thought A & AA were/are combined because Salem hosts the A/AA State Tournament every year. I have to tell them : it's A "AND" AA - they have a large floor there.
is usually a local problem. I only had a couple of calls about probs. this season, and they were in the first month when we were still playing around with the feed hook-up.
They have a "backfield by committee". Run a lot, but few 100 yard games, & none have 1000.
Sr. QB Seth Little has about as many TD's running as passing (12 or so each), but 7 of 10 reg. season TD passes were 45+ yards. He avgs. about 50 rushing & 100 passing per game.
Jr. TB Micah Zwanzig has as many TD's as the rest of the backfield guys (Shey Garst, Drew Loso & Andrew Armstrong) combined.
K Cody Ochoa is about 43-47 on XP's & 7-9 on FG's (had a 43 yard miss vs. Harrisonburg that hit the upright).
Handful of 2-way guys.
Only 2 def. TD's (both INT returns)
Coach Newman has been there about 20 years - last 3 as head coach.
Lynchburg (I mean Liberty) Chr. won their league title and are finished for the year.
Salem-Va. Beach (AAA) lost 2 regular season games, so shouldn't have been on the list, anyway. AA Salem (or Salem-BR) won and is now at 19.
Salem's h.s. was known as Andrew Lewis when Va. Beach opened their Salem. When Salem build a new building in 1977, it was re-named Salem, and the designations were added.
H.B. Banjoman - Warren Co. (up I-81 to where I-66 takes off towards DC, just before Wincester).
Had 351 yards tonight for 2,608 this season, which is a new regular-season record. Came close to making the top 10 overall (inc. playoff games), but the Wildcats didn't make the cut, so he's done.
Also had 37 TD's this year, inc. a couple of 6 TD nights.
Earlier in the day, they announced they had used an ineligible kid in 4 games - the first one was the season opener on 9/2 vs. Tallwood.
They've appealed to the VHSL, which will make a ruling Monday afternoon.
A similar thing happened to a playoff team in Roanoke a couple of years ago, and the VHSL basically said the school did nothing wrong, therefore, no forfeits.
