  1. OK - I found them. They're in the VISAA (indep. league) Div. II, and they seem to have a new name. The state AP poll still has them listed as Lynchburg C.A. Their website says they're changing their name "this Fall" to Liberty C.A., but everything there still says Lynchburg.

And, yes, as you'd expect, it's Falwell's school.

  2. "Rumors" is right.

Babb has played in 4 of the 7 games this season with 9 TD's and is avg. 119 yds on 17 carries per game

    Game 1 : 179 yards on 14 carries & 2 TD's

Game 2 : missed due to a hamstring pull in practice (9/10)

    Game 3 : 92 on 16 & 3 (vs. Essex)

    Games 4 & 5 : missed - hammie

    Game 6 : 97 on 23 & 1 (vs. Surry)

    Game 7 : 108 on 16 & 3

    Game 8 : Sat., 10/29

  3. Yeah - strange. I had just met the bus a bit earlier as I was going to K-Mart after work. On the way back, I'm passed at the JR exit by a pick-up with a little flashing light on the dash, then I'm held up at the first light for the rescue suqad to come out of town. And while stuck in traffic in front of Roisch's, I have to pull up on that little concrete median for a state police car to get through.

When I talked to Lloyd last night, he said he'd let me know this aft. what he found out.

  4.

The master schedules they post aren't proofed, so it's common for 3-6 versions to go up before the season starts. I proof them, send Lora a list of discrepencies, she makes some corrections, posts a newer version, I proof, and we go on like that for a couple of months.

Only the last one, posted Aug. 19th, has the Grundy-Haysi game listed.

  5. Wow - can't believe I confused Washington w/ Wall. Guess I spend too much time with the VV's back then. I think Mark kept VP Pie in business all by himself.

    Man, I miss those.

I wonder how that roundabout is working out? I think the worst prob. they had/have is the crosswalk at Hillcrest. With the hill & the sun - hated it.

  6. OT basics - each team gets a possession - 1st & goal at the 10. Series ends on a score, failed FG attempt, or a turnover (not necessarily 4 downs).

If still tied, you go to a 2nd OT, and so on. No "you must try for 2" rule anywhere down the line. State record is 6 OT's : Brookville 27, Salem 20, on Aug. 30, 2002.

  7. what happened ? - heard a couple of Panthers had heat exhaustion.

points - GBC isn't a public school - therefore, no ratings points are involved.

As far as the VHSL ratings are concerned, TV was 'open' this weekend, and only play 9 games this year (just like last year).

  8. I'd rather "sneak in the back way" when going downtown.

Stay on the bypass another mile +. After the Prices Fork exit, you'll drift down to a traffic light. Turn left. Go about 3/4 mile and turn left (no light, but you can see Lane Stadium on that road). Go past Lane to the top of hill. Turn right (around Cassell Coliseum). Go about a mile. Washington dead-ends 1 block short of Main, so turn left, then make a right at the stop sign (7-11), and a right again at the traffic light. Bill Brown will be on the left about 2 blocks from there (back about a block from Main).

And pay attention to the speed limit signs. Once you turn off 460, the Hokie Smokies will get ya (you don't want to end up in the Hokie Pokie).

Only been to 1 game there, many years ago, so I don't know what traffic/parking are like.

Kool-Aid's directions will mess you up. If you come in on Main, pay no attention to the H.S. Keep on Main another couple of miles, through downtown, (which has a lot of turn lanes, so be careful). When you get out of the tightly-packed stretch, BBS will be at the top of the rise, back on the left.

The "Smart Road" directions apply if you're coming in on the Christiansburg side of town.

  9. I'll just add a few details.

Don't turn left towards Elkhorn - stay on 460. Beware - 35 MPH through Regina.

When you get to the 4-lane past Shelbiana, don't turn right up the ramp towards Pikeville - go on under the bridge. When the curve becomes straight, get ready to make a right onto a 20 yard right-turn lane. Traffic might be backed up in that curve ... haven't been through there since the new Food City opened.

Go about 5 miles. SVHS is on the left, but it's set way back beside a mtn. and you won't see it unless you're really looking for it. The only (small) sign there last year was right at the crossover.

After you cross a mtn. and get to the 'high' bridge, look to your left and you'll see where KY is building the new 460 towards the Breaks. School is only about a mile or 2 from there.

It's about an hour's drive from school to school.

  10. hhstigerfan - Yes, a "trophy" can be awarded. The James River - Glenvar winner gets a rocking chair. Greensville & Brunswick play for an oak bucket. Liberty-Bealeton (Eagles) & Fauquier (Falcons) play in the "Bird Bowl".

James Wood, John Handley, Millbrook & Sherando play for the Crimson Apple, which goes to the team with the best record against the other 3.

  11. AAA Perry Central's enrollment is just over 1,000, which makes them about the size of Carroll Co., or AA by Va. standards.

But my point was that Grundy & Richlands were in SCRIMMAGES, where you don't care about the score (or at least you shouldn't). Execution should be the focus.

  12. Yeah, Harlan went 8-2, but we lost 28-20 to HAZARD, which lost 7 games last year. Just a scrimmage, though. Is Richlands really 3 TD's better than Pulaski? Or does an extra week of practice have something to do with it???
