  1. just to respond to the rest of the crap in this thread thats got nothing to do with GW vs Honaker...the State game should be played at Salem...it's a nice place and great atmosphere...if you have never gone before, do yourself a favor and go...doubt many will say have it somewhere else after actually attending.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Don't think it'll be very close. GW 31-7.

  2. Can you imagine the culture shock those guys will be in? They come from an area with a large population around them....all the way to a "hole in the ground" that literally is yet to have a stop light (soon to change).

Actually, that school is out in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but farms and fields.

  3. i know the games over.............lord knows i wish only the best for GW,i've said it over and over, clintwood PLAYED FLAT, they didn't play even half the intensity, they did against grayson co..... hate to differ with lung and loyal, but .. i do not believe they were ready....our first night game playoff...yes everyone left it on the field......................(i guess i'm venting a bit, someone else posted on another site, clintwood didn't deserve to be on same field...with GW)

Don't think they were flat but they didn't play well. I think it did kind of throw things off playing on Friday. I think what really killed them was losing 12 and 9 in the first quarter. Couldn't line up in the Maryland I and run people over the way they had all year when anyone had any success stoping the run. I also think and didn't think about it before the game that revenge was a huge factor Friday night. Just like when Clintwood played Grayson this year. GW had a bee under their bonnet and they played lights out.

  4. Actually, they're more of a power run team than a spread team. They don't throw much but when they do it's usually from the shotgun. They line up with split backs and the qb under center most of the time. Had absolutely no problem with the people over there last year. Couldn't have been treated better. They are 1-1 in state title games as D1. Bath beat them handily in 01, 53-16 and they beat Bath 20-0 two years later. They are 1-1 in title games as D2. Beat Lebanon 56-7 in 91 and lost to PV 33-12 in 94. They're a good tradition rich school who are super physical and usually have some kids that can run. Clintwood had to drive 7 hours there to play last year and had 2-3 times more fans at the game. I wouldn't expect a big crowd. There are several youtube videos of last years team if you want to check out how they line up.

  5. Have fun and be safe on your trip over their GW fans. It's kind of a thug mentality with their fans and they're going to try to intimidate you and harass you. Their players came off as cocky and disrespectful when I saw them play and judging from some of the Altavista people's comments from Friday none of that has changed.

  6. They are now 12-1 on the season. In the regular season the only beat one team with a winning record. That was Colonial Beach who finished the year 7-5. Sussex is averaging 41.7 PPG and allowing 15.4 PPG.

They are consistantly one of the best programs in D1 from the eastern part of the state. Only one losing season going back 14 years. Also won at state title in 2003.

Clintwood played these guys last year in this round and won that game 17-8 so the Clintwood posters here could probably tell you much more from what they saw last year.

That was the best team Clintwood played last year. Very physical, very talented, very good. They graduated a good number of kids that played against Clintwood but still look to be very good.

  7. LMAO Nothing is impossible. You and the rest of the Clintwood faithful be safe on the way over tomorrow. If the atmosphere is only half of it was last year, it'll be fantastic.

Best of luck to the Wave. No matter who wins this game, I'll be pulling hard for the winner of this one to go the distance just as I did last year.

    Cheers, Lung!

Same to you. You've earned my respect over the years. You're good people. I'm hitting the road now so everyone be safe.

  8. Salem is an incredible site for the D1/D2 games, like starcity said its the perfect size and is a really nice stadium. I'm with Ironlung on fans being on the field. Stay in the stands or huddle around the entrance gate. The field is for the teams

I don't want to sound like a stick in the mud. Maybe they could have something to where the losing team has a chance to leave the field and 10 minutes or so later family can go to meet their child. The last thing you need is some schmuck making a fool of himself to an opposing coach or player. Emotions can run to high and you don't need people not involved on the field.

  9. I am pretty sure the principals from West schools had a vote on the playoff system too. Geez guys, not everything is a conspiracy.

The majority of the East schools voted for the cross bracketing. The minority of the West didn't. Add in that majority with the minority and you get things the way they are. It's not a conspiracy, it's a fact.

  10. I think it's ok if fans are allowed on the field ..before or after the game...except where Cal's band came on the field prematurely and the trumpet player got clobbered in the endzone!:)

No need in it. It does nothing but invite trouble. It almost happened with a kid a couple years ago at Bullit after JIB won a game. If anyone used to be on the LPD board you know the kid and know it almost resulted in the law coming in.

  11. Unfortunately, you cannot have a State title game set up at a venue based on the geographic location of the title games participants. These sites are set up years in advance and I personally think that Salem is a great site for the D1 and D2 games. It is a perfect size stadium (7,200 capacity) for the smaller schools, whereas the D3-D6 venues usually dwarf the actual attendance. Last year, Galax and Clintwood fans PACKED Salem Stadium for the D1 contest. Of course, the Gate City fan base does the same when the Devils are involved. I am expecting the same for this year with Honaker, Clintwood, George Wythe, Burton, and Altavista still in the mix.

After driving "all over the place" during the regular season, the D1 and D2 championship site is only ten minutes away from me. For this, I am thankful! Good luck to ALL the SWVA teams in action Friday and Saturday. I am looking forward to your arrival into my "neck of the woods" real soon!

    ^^^^^^^^ It's a great venue for a game.

  12. If I could have one thing changed about this setup that would be it. I kinda like the idea of Having a East and West Champ, and having them faceoff.

You can thank the Eastern side for that. They were of the opinion that they'd have 2 teams in the finals every year that way. How'd that work out for you last year?

  13. think the game was tied 10 -10 at halftime..

It was 13-10 CW at half. Other than that initial spurt of O in the first quarter that game was all Clintwood. They dominated the game from the start of the 2nd quarter. Had one fumble inside the 5 in the 2nd quarter and the pick 6 that should have been called back to start the 3rd quarter. Game was in doubt for less than a quarter.

  14. Burton plays defense? I thought the mentality was "forget stopping the other team, let's just score more than they do!"

Up until the last couple years they'd had one of the better defenses in the area. 6-7 years ago they were top notch. They've eroded badly the past 2-3.

  15. This is the worst JIB team in a decade or more. Their defense is terrible. Crowder is really good and if he's got time he can pick you apart. They're decimated with injuries too. Honaker should be able to score what they want so all they need to do is hold JIB's offense in check.
