  1. the Ref's told the players that the first guy that got to the punt hit the punter and that the second guy blocked the punt after the hit. as far as the fight a grundy coach put his hands on a few players and was hit like tornado dog said. the head coach for grundy was cussing and saying alot of things to #12.

If this is true there should be legal charges brought against any adult who places their hands on a minor.

  2. I dont see where you Tazwell guy's making these post makes you any Pillar of the community either.

You got beat by a better team shake it off move on if some of the kids took it or made it personal it's football if a kid dont play with a chip on his shoulder somethings wrong.

My kid played against Tazwell from middle school on through 10th grade and at the middle school level I had to walk the kids to the locker room and bus so dont tell me about class go get ya some so you'll know what it is..Sounds like you got what you gave and couldnt handle it. As far as Rowe trying to score I remember you guys never worried how much you hung on Grundy I only wish Rowe had blowed the bulbs out on the visitor's side.

Please tell me you are not an adult -- no wonder the kids are out of control if this is what the adults are saying.

Why on earth would you ever have to walk your child to the bus at Tazewell - the path from the visitor's locker room to the bus is lined with police officers, police cars and emergency personel.

  3. I was told from a very reliable source that his resignation was not by his choice - I was also told that Doug Marrs has been asking some of the Tazewell assistants to come to Graham -- who knows -- albeit much of the difficulties with coaching is the parents - but being fair and understanding that you are working with kids helps you be successful and makes for a better chance for a long tenure.

  4. You know this will be interesting because Plymal don't know anything about basketball hell he don't know anything about football and I think he played that but the girls will win anyway no matter who coaches. As for the boys didn't this coach get run off by the parents of the girls basketball team, what would make him think he could coach the boys team. Well I guess this proves that Grundy does not care about there basketball program because they haven't had a true basketball coach in about 10-20 years.

The problem with Grundy's girls and other girl's teams in the SWD is that parents think this is still little league and their little girl deserves to play all the time and get a trophy - in general all of the SWD teams have parents who want to think they are in control and that their little girl is a D1 prospect -- and if you know anything about bball you know a D1 girl in our area are few and far between.

I think Bill Christian will do a great job with the boys -- I wish him the best --

  5. first thing you have to have is good grades...when the people from Miami were looking at Marcum, the first thing they wanted to know is how are his grades...not 40 time...not yards per carry...no how many TD"s did you have...first thing they asked was how are his grades...kinda shocked me at the time.

So any of you guys that think you want to move on, better take care of business in the classroom as well as on the field...trust me it matters.

That is exactly right. Grades are #1 when it comes to going to the next level, the next question a college coach will ask is "Is he/she coachable, how's the attitude?" There are very few college athletes that are 100% athletic - the majority of all scholarshiped athletes that are on full rides are receiving a big chunk of academic monies.

So study -- keep the grades up and then when you prove yourself on the playing surface you will be recruitable.

  6. Wonder how many kids ever transfered to Tazewell to play baseball. I believe there is a Pro pitcher out there that was from a different school zone that went to Tazewell. I heard he came there because of the great baseball program, go figure.

Billy Wagner came to Tazewell because the cousin he was living with came to Tazewell. The baseball program at the time Billy was in high school was good - but it did not have the facilities or the reputation that it has now. Billy has helped make that reputation. Billy was a bulldog because that was where his aunt and uncle choose for him and his cousins to come -- it made sense -- they worked in Tazewell and could be closer to their children. However, I will say that Billy is probably very thankful that he was able to play for a class act like Lou Peery who helped him get into college as he has so many over the years.

As for Lockhart moving to Richlands -- I completely understand why he did it.

  7. The Moose is playing Gedi mind games on you BluMom! The ole ball headed bench boss has 'em just where he wants them. He confuses the opposition with rhetoric; loses by a few the first go round; camps out in the lane...see the method to his madness? Remember you read it here first......Moose will be the SWD COY!

    What is Gedi?

  8. I have always felt that these All District and All Region teams should be picked to make a real team. Coaches should be given the task of selecting the players they feel would compliment each other and make the best TEAM since it's called the All SWD/Region Team. Then all the voting coaches names be placed in a hat and the one drawn be this team's head coach and the others can be assistance. Then the All SWD team could play the All River Ridge team or another district and then a Region team be picked from those players and a the regions could play a game --

I know my method would really add some weeks of football -- but it would also keep coaches honest and take some of the politics out of it -- if they were going to coach this team they would want the best players in each spot. Also if a player was selected that was possible not the most popular choice he or she could have an opportunity to prove they had deserved the honor.

I do congratulate those that were named to the team -- but I also realize that there are many talented athletes that were not given the credit they deserved.

  9. No balls! Webb can't/shouldn't make Palmer the head girls b-ball coach for two simply reasons. One when the job opened up he never applied for it. The only reason Palmer wants it now is because of the freshmen and eight graders that are a real special group of young ladies. Cochran took the job when talent was slim picking and has done the best with what he had. Secondly, Palmer is not a certified teacher at RHS. He holds no liscense/certificate to teach. He is posted as a special ed. aid but does nothing but supervise in-school suspension. Technically if he wants the job or any other coaching duties he should be required to perform his duties of which he is listed to do. Any teacher in Taz. County knows if they don't do what they were hired to do then they will be replaced.

I could not agree with you more.

  10. Richlands lost another game but not surprising. It looked liked a middle school game or rec game. The coach playing everybody and girls could not get into a rhythm. Cassie Richardson should not come out of the game and they need to get the ball to their big girl. Even though they lost aganist Patrick Henry they still should win 12 to 15 games this year. But they have to keep Richardson in the game and get the ball into the big girl. Most of the teams in this area are not very good this year so these freshmen will save cochran's job.

To begin with "BLUEMOM" please tell me you are not actually a mother. To refer to anyone especially a teenage girl as 'the big girl' is a direct reflection of your immaturity -- find out what her name is and use it and please stop being rude to this young lady who obviously according to you and your expert knowledge of basketball is a very valuable part of the Lady Blues Team.

As for your comment that Cassie Richardson should never come out of the game -- that too reflects your knowlege -- no one should ever expect or be expected to play every minute of every game. I realize she is good -- have not seen her this year, but watched her twice last year and she is very talented.

I hope that Moose and the Lady Blues have a GREAT SEASON. I would like to leave you with one thought -- If Palmer wanted the job that he and his groupies are politicing for why was he not hired when Moose was or even befofe. Palmer has been at Richlands High School since the early 80's. I know this for a fact since I was in high school at RHS during this time. I would venture that they're two possible reasons:

    1. He really doesn't want the responsibility that it takes to be a head coach -- he just wants to point fingers.

    or

    2. He really wants the job, but there are underlying issues that prevent him from having it --

I don't know why he isn't the coach - I really don't think that I would want him to be, but the fact remains he is not the coach and the best thing that parents can do for their children and the program is to support the program and refrain from making negative comments about their child's coach -- you may not like him/her, you may not have respect for him/her, but please teach your child to respect the position.

GOOD LUCK LADY BLUES -- HOPE YOUR SEASON IS MOST SUCCESSFUL

  11. I would have to agree those are POY stats. I think team record should not be considered unless you will consider what the record would have been if that player had not been there. There is not a replacement for David Marrs on Graham's roster, there is however a Jack Vance from Richlands that could have played QB and the running back from Richlands that was a freshman last year was pretty good, but I understand he didn't come back this year in part because of illness.

If we are going to consider team in the issue of player -- a good question would be: Is there a spot for a player like David Marrs on Richlands [sWD Champs] team. I would imagine Mance would say bring him on down.

It will take 4 votes to be POY and David Marrs has only one - he should support his player whether it is his nephew or not.

  12. If you determine POY as to the impact that one player had on his/her team, David Marrs would be a probably candidate. The results should be released since all of the SWD teams are now eliminated, right. He definately deserves first team honors.

I hope that the All SWD teams actually reveal the best players and politics doesn't play a role.

  13. I heard Richlands girls varsity looked really good in their scrimmage the other day. It is not always the number setting on the bench that counts, it's the talent and heart of those that care to play that really matters. I hope they do well.

  14. I have watched Richlands football since the early 80s - I would have to say there has been alot of great players to wear the blue and white -- Shane Wicks is my all time favorite. You can't forget Caleb Jennings or Brandon Breeding both were great as was Robbie Cruey. Jack Ginn was probably the most consistent kicker, but Reece Strong is doing great kicking and is only a sophomore.

Shane though played with such heart and came up with big defensive plays when the Blues really needed it. I love defense -- offense is full of those glory boys -- defense is where the real men can be found.

  15. I was not trying to bash her -- I was just giving my opinion -- she is a good athlete - she should start varsity next year. I hope she can listen to some constructive critical remarks and work on getting better. I don't know if anyone ever realizes it - but college coaches are looking for a total package.

I don't think anything I said about her compares to the antics of the Mafia - but if you do you are really sensitive.

Brittany has good genetics - her mother was a stand out athlete at Tazewell and still holds a couple of track records - and Brittany has a good environment -- her step-father was one of the best basketball players Richlands has ever had. She has dedicated herself at a very young age to a sport and is really good -- but she can be better. She has the tools and the support.
