  1. I really hate that for the Mavs... I honestly thought that they would be in contention for the remainder of the playoffs. What a group of hard working kids and coaches.

Hadn't had the heart to get on the board before now. Thanks for the thoughts. JM had some turnovers which killed (and you can't do that and win). It was a team JM could definitely have beaten but it was just an off day. Hate it for the seniors too. But, gotta keep lookin' forward to next year . . .

  2. Looks like Scott has moved to the Cardinal Conference. Maybe that's why Bluefield is no longer on their schedule.

It's my understanding that after 2010, Scott will no longer play James Monroe because of the move to the Cardinal Conference. I also understand that JM picked up Nicholas County but at this time, only 8 games are scheduled. I believe (maybe wrong) that Graham couldn't be scheduled because their open dates were early in season and JM needs to replace the Wyoming East and Mt. View dates which are later in the season.

  3. So with them dropping JM, that leaves 3 spots on the schedule to fill next year?

I believe that's right. I know the North Cross deal was just a one-year deal. JM was looking to pick up Princeton again but I'm not sure they've been able to work it out (I think Princeton was trying to fit it in the Nitro slot, but I believe they've decided to play Nitro again.)

I really like the idea of JM picking up Graham, but I'm not sure if that will happen. There apparently was some talk of playing the new River View school (Iaegar (sp?) and Big Creek combo) but I saw on another board that River View has apparently filled its schedule.

  4. Scrimmages, I believe, are on Saturday, 8/15, and Saturday, 8/22. I'm not sure which, but they will scrimmage Greenbrier West and Independence(?) @ Midland Trail on one of those dates and they will scrimmage Midland Trail @ Concord in the afternoon of one of those two.

  5. Ok, if you're going back that far (and not all of those games were on Jackson's watch) during that same time period JM also beat Richwood 48-6, 27-7; Summers 34-7, 34-0; Midland Trail 47-19, 41-22 and I only recall playing Fayetteville once (not before nor after that score). Those are pretty solid victories but far from "running up" the score. I probably saw most of those games, and, yes, maybe there were times starters were left in longer than I thought they should have been, but I have never thought JM used those teams as whipping posts and that starters were left in, intentionally, for that purpose.

There were actually more times during the 2007 season when I questioned why second and third teamers didn't get in some games earlier than they did, and none of those games, with the exception of Mount View and Pikeview, were really blowouts; and I know that at both, starters were pulled fairly early (@ Pikeview in the 1st quarter.)

  6. I don't think nybody is afraid of big bad James Monroe...just continue to schedule the cupcakes....it'll show up around playoff time.....

It's kinda funny . . . somebody posts that JM has teams that won't schedule them, and that's dismissed outright because everybody knows, "nybody is afraid of big bad James Monroe . . . just continue to schedule the cupcakes . . ." but if a team refuses to play Bluefield, it's out of fear! Oh well, the irony of it all. (I think our weak schedule helped us this past year - we got handed a whippin' in the first game, but we continued to get better and somehow managed to hang on and get to the semis. Course everybody knows AA was down last year.)

Anyhow, I understand that JM wanted to schedule Greenbrier West but wasn't able to do that. I would have liked to see Wayne back on the schedule, but I understand that was a one-time deal, although I think they would be great competition year in and out. I also wish Graham would be on our schedule; but nobody asks me, so I guess we'll just have to go with what we've got and hope for the best.

  7. Hope your little guy is all better soon! My children are teenagers now and very rarely get sick (thank the good Lord) but when they were little, they were sick alot. It's hard on the parents when your kids are so young and they can't tell you exactly what's wrong so lots of times you imagine the worst. So, here's praying that he's well soon and your Christmas is bright!
