  1. From BHC:

    Haysi 75, Honaker 68

After missing Haysi’s previous game with an ankle injury, Chris Fleming bounced back in a big way with a 31-point, 10-rebound showing in a Black Diamond District victory over Honaker.

Byron Bowman added 27 points for Haysi (7-6, 2-0), while Jeremiah Dye paced Honaker with 16 points.

  2. I'll say it again--TV will be fine--they are fine! There's plenty of practice time before district play and they're doing fine. Can they improve--absolutely! I think Coach Moore and the players would tell you that, I don't think there's any question. They will improve.

As far as the Coopers and their technicals--no surprise. The Cooper boys are good ball players but have sorry attitudes--period. Children reflect their parents. The Coopers aren't acting any differently than they did last year--no surprise.

As far as Josh Smith being the reason TV wins, I don't think there's any question he's a huge part of what they do, Moore says that all the time! Josh Smith is the best player in the district and he will always make a difference.

I'll give credit Honaker they've played good early on. They played descent against Lebanon the first time and played hard again and won they second. Lebanon is a good team and will challenge for Region D. But as far as Hart being the better coach, I don't know about that. I think he has players that play really hard. They did on the JV when Hart wasn't the coach and they're just doing the same now. I remember a few years ago after TV lost Lester, Logan, Goodman and those guys and Honaker had Logan Ball, the Carter kid and that group. The district was there's for the taking but they couldn't do it and haven't done it since. Sure they got one against the Panthers last year and beat TV in the BDD tourney at Honaker a couple of years ago but, hey, we'll let you have a couple every 5 years or so!

  3. These early season tourneys are crap .... I remember shortridges soph year, TV finished dead last at the VA high tourney, Then they got the ball rolling and made it to the state final four ...

I remember that year too. TV went 0-3 in that tourney (with a loss to Lebanon in the consolation game interestingly, it should also be mentioned that that was when Horne was hurt and didn't play).

Fact of the matter is Lebanon is just a good team with a lot of depth and good athletes. All of these preseason tourneys are good for one thing--getting better and prepare you for district play. This is all about playing hard and finding out what works and what doesn't work. TV will be fine--GO PANTHERS!

  4. Lebanon is pretty athletic, I watched them play against Honaker. They are struggling with control and shooting. Jerome Cobb is by far their best player, if he gets in foul trouble they will struggle, which is likely against Smith.

After watching Honaker play against Lebanon I can't figure how they lost to Battle. Maybe they just had a good night against Lebanon but they seemed to be a little better than that game against Battle showed. I don't know, we'll see. . .

  5. Hurley beat VA High last night. They should have beat J.J Kelly, but lost by three. If they tall kid had not split his head they would have.

Not taking away from the win, but I'm not sure beating VA High is something to be excited about. They seem to be struggling right now.

  6. I didn't know that he left Hurley. I saw in the paper a little while back that he didn't play but didn't know he left. That will hurt them quite a bit (obviously it has if they haven't won without him). I don't know him but had heard about the stuff he had gone through, truly felt for him.

  7. i think hubbard just has to get his confidence level up and he will be tough to handle...he is prob the best shooter on the team if he would shoot more and has worked hard this summer to get where he is...give this team a couple more games to get used to one another and they will be pretty tough

Well said. They've played really well this early in the season and come district time they should be tough--I'm looking forward to it! Brandon has played really hard I'm real proud of him!

I remember watching Hubbard on the JV last year, he is a good shooter. Get in there and get it done!

  8. The Black Diamond District will be well represented in the VA High Tourney. Saw where three BDD teams are playing in it--Hurley; Honaker; and TV. I think all three have a great shot at winning their first round game, which (obviously) would put 3 BDD teams in the semi-finals.

I would like to see a good showing of the BDD in the tourney. Lebanon will definitely be tough to beat. They don't have a lot of size but are pretty athletic (similar to last year).

Be curious to hear everyone's thoughts.

  9. Saw where they meet in the first round of the VA High Tourney Thursday night. I know Battle beat Honaker a couple of weeks ago and watched Honaker play Lebanon last night. Honaker played a tough game which makes me think that Battle is a little better than usual.

TV has played good in their first two games. I like how the new starters are playing. Brandon Viers is playing hard and so is Hobbs. I would think TV, any thoughts. . .

  10. Kelly has the best corps of LBs/defense that Lebanon will see. I agree with you that keeping heat on Jessee will be the key. If we can rush him,we'll be fine. I don't want him to have time to sit back and wait to hit somebody downfield. On offense,I really like Kelly's Offensive line. Against a Burton defense that had registered 6 consecutive shutouts, the Indian Offensive Line controlled the game. I really think this game will be as good as it gets.

Pressure is the key. in every game that Lebanon lost this year protection was the issue. Should be an interesting matchup this Saturday!

  11. I've been to several Lebanon games and was at the Kelly-Burton game a few weeks ago. I know it's hard to judge a team after seeing them one game, but in order for Kelly to win they are going to have to pass the ball and be able to stop the pass. Lebanon's defensive front can handle the run game if they can keep up with the misdirection.

Burton had receivers wide open all night the trouble was the QB couldn't throw the ball from his right hand to his left. Lebanon has a good passing game as long as they protect Jessee. If he has time he'll burn Kelly up with passes to Cobb. I've not seen anyone cover Cobb, it's just a matter of protection.

It comes down (as always) to who controls the line of scrimmage--I'll say Lebanon:

    Lebanon 21 Kelly 12
