Gate City removed just about all of their starters at the 9 minute mark of the TV game. GC had that time plus a ten minute break in between the game with Hurley to rest. It was a good hard hitting game between two teams.
Is it a difficult schedule, not for Graham or any other AA school, so I am sure the defending AA state champions JV would go 9-1. What single A schedule is oh so tough that it deserves praise? Patrick Henry played a Cumberland schedule last season, but not a word about that. Grundy played West Va and Ky. Schools becuase they are close, yet not a word.
I know many schools in Virginia were contacted including PH, Holston, Hurley, Honaker and Union but dates didn’t work or schedules were full.
All the teams you mentioned are hours away, which means no revenue for TW, and at a small school no revenue equals no team.
And just to set the record straight TW went to Grundy in the playoffs, so they had the 4 hour trip. I figured a football guru like yourself would know the little details.
Why exactly is a Graham fan worrying about little school who they will never have anything to do with anyway? You used to do the same to Hurley when they had a good season.
TW said their schedule was full when Hurley's AD called needing a game. Conflicting story there with the TW poster. Hurley just filled their schedule in January. Holston and Northwood were the last two signed. So I kind of doubt the schedule was full when the Hurley AD called the TW AD. I'm not sure when the AD called but he has been working on the new schedule since the beginning of the 2018 season. So let's say since August. Scheduling schools is tough when you are isolated like Hurley or TW. Hurley had three teams drop out last minute due to either finding a closer game (Tolsia WV, Harlan Ind, Montcalm) or schedule conflict (Phelps, KY). Phelps, since they have got better, is a good gate money game that both schools lose on. The schools are only 17 miles apart and the Pike, Co school bus and Buchanan Co school buses travel on the same routes.
Not sure of the dates but Hurley's new schedule is
Rye Cove, Auburn, Riverview, Patrick Henry, Northwood, Holston, Grundy, Honaker, Tug Valley, Twin Valley
Side note.....a poster made a funny remark about Riverview and Hurley both dropping Tazewell. The teams did because they wanted the teams to travel to Tazewell back to back years. Offered each school a small sum. Both AD's said no thanks we will fine someone else. Union wanted the same as well.
Tazewell has better skill guys on offense. Fiser numbers have been down somewhat since the Hurley game and Tazewell has speed to catch him if he breaks loose on a sweep.
Twin Valley v Northwood in a matchup of the purple panthers at 10 AM on August 11.
Also, it's my understanding Twin Springs will be at home versus Hancock County, TN on Friday August 10 at 6:00 so I'm not sure if they'll be at Central as stated above. I could be wrong but, this is the info I received last week.
Northwood is coming to Hurley on Saturday. 1 P.M.
Rye Cove vs. Holston at 10 a.m.
Coach Moore has the Jamboree schedule on his FB page.
Well Who says that the Son of Tester might not move to Eastside to play for his Dad (As a riseing 9th grader That would not even require any hoop jumping to happen.
That being said where does the Older Tester currently live? I do not think many would opt for Hurly to Coeburn Daily Drive
Have y'all forgot that Tester has another son in Hurley? He is about 6 or 7 years old and is just now getting into sports. I don't see Tester getting back into a head coaching roll anytime soon. He wants that free time to spend with BOTH sons.
There has been 4 applicants so far, 2 from Buchanan Co., 1 from Tazewell Co. and 1 from Pike Co. Ky. I'm not sure when the cutoff will be for applying for the job.
The thing that everyone has failed to talk about is Chilhowie's defense. The d-line is hard to trap because they dont shoot up the field when turned loose for the trap....they either squeeze down or sit I think their middle linebackers flow very good and are 2 of the best in SWVA. Chilhowie also has good run support from their d backs especially the safety. Don't sleep on the Warriors. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they beat Rivershead.
They beat the 2 and 3 team in the weakest region in the state top to bottom. Chilhowie destroyed PH. But even Chilhowie have some head scratching losses this year.
No matter who wins, either Galax or Narrows wins next week. But gimme Chilhowie by 24 this week.
Region B had 2 0-10 teams and 2 more with losing records in the playoffs so I think they are the worst.
Go on to Grundy. They are only losing 1 skill guy but he was the main dish. They have Fiser, Endicott, McCoy coming back and some young guys that are good running backs. They have a some decent lineman coming back that are upper classmen. Grundy's jv went undefeated and some of those are moving up. What position are ya looking for? I don't mean to be rude but if your kid couldn't beat out a bunch of 9th and 10th graders at Hurley and lets face it ....that us what started but maybe 3-4 upperclassmen..... then what makes you think he can beat out a bunch of 11th and 12th graders at Grundy?
Maybe you should try Twin Valley where there is less competition from were they graduated more off their team.
By the way, how the hell do you clear off quotes in the reply section? lol
I know Narrows is #1 but if they win over Galax it kind of is a upset because Galax has been really good for the past couple of years. I think Galax wins.
I think everybody's being way too generous to Burton here. They definitely got better and found their mojo towards the end of the season, and into the playoffs, but their no where near Chilhowie's level. Chilhowie wins handily by 20-30 points.
Burton beat the #3 and #2 team in the playoffs and it's hard to beat a team twice in a season (see Grundy). Burton's offense is clicking now and they have something Castlewood and Hurley didn't have and that is they can pass well enough to keep Chilhowie from stacking the box. Could be an upset but I still think Chilhowie wins but it will be closer than the 36-0 score earlier in the season.
Guys, Coach Tester isn't going to Central. Yes, he has a son playing football in Wise county but he has a wife and a son in Hurley that plays sports in Hurley. Greg might or might not step down as coach at Hurley. but it isn't to replace Luke or anything else you might have heard, the only rea son he would step down is to be a parent to both kids. I'm sure he will make a decision soon if he is coming back for a 13th year. Greg has a lot of kids coming back next year off a playoff team because a majority of them were 9th and 10th starting with only 3 Seniors starting every game. The well ain't dry and it will be hard to walk away for any coach.
It's a travesty. Those four TDs they took off the board against a team playing just 3 upperclassmen is a shining example of just how much the officials decide these games.
Hurley only plays 3 upperclassmen but this Friday there were 4 are various times but not the whole ballgame. The rest are 9th and 10th. 1 junior starts.
