So far I know of no players being recruited like the Brookville team but they look very solid , especially on defense .They have only lost one game and that was to Dinwiddie 30-10 , one of the best teams in the division 5 aaa Virginia league . Dinwiddie was ousted by probably one of the best teams in any division in the state , the Phoebus Phantoms , from Hampton , who seem like they are in the state championship every year 21-13 . They come from the Bay River District , where most of the teams are from Williamsburg area .

I guess what some tea party people are saying is that spending on war to revive the economy is the same as spending domestically - if you do not have the money you do not have it and actually some of the war money goes overseas because that is where the troops are .

Great atmosphere raw temperatures. Went down on saturday was a long day stayed at Staybridge Suites off exit 3 south of town for 82.99 a night - some hotels in downtown were 200 a night or better . I had a two bedroom with 2 double beds in one room, 1 queen bed in another room and pullout couch , plus a full kitchen Television in every room. Nice place great staff great complimentary breakfast with coffee, juice , eggs , bacon , waffles , donuts, pancakes. full basketball court out front. lots of places to eat around . the best thing to do was to drive and park about 2 miles from the hotel at a train and bus terminal at arrowwood road and we took a light rail from arrowood to downtown , 2 blocks from stadium , They run these all day until 100am . Montgomery Gentry free concert and mascot game free x box 360 for the kids at the fanfest all kinds of contests and free DR. Pepper . I had a feeling about this game and VA Tech was just the better team . You could feel it . Tech has the type of team that makes few mistakes , controls thge ball and the offensive line has come together . The defense is not as dominating this year, mainly because of youth but they have some playmakers , Also, we have 2 very good kickers . I had a feeling during the game that Tech would get a few stops but Florida St could not stop Tech . Great game had a lot of fun E J. Manuel , the Florida St QB of the future is a another VA Beach product out of Bayside High . He is going t be a great one .

I was at the Tech Florida st game but heard about the tornadoes and congratulations and I am sure the fans and players are proud.

Florida teams usually do not like coming North, even to North Carolina and chilly temperatures,cold rain and snow expected .

grades held him back he was being recruited by South Carolina . I have a feeling that Richlands will win this game I just think they have that it quality this year .

In 1996 Salem had depth , good attitude, decent QB, good defense , and got a little better each week . In the playoffs they beat Northside 17-0 Staunton River 27-3 Grundy in a rainstorm in Tazewell 7-0 Sherando 20-12 at Victory stadium in Roanoke QB for Sherando was Kelley Washington , who later played for Tennessee and NfL. In 1998 Salem had size , strength and some great players and a steady QB . They mainly just out muscled every team they played and had 9 shutouts.Playoff scores were Jefferson Forest 40-0 Heritage 26-0 Martinsville 17-0 Lafayette 28-18 In 1999 , Salem again went undefeated surprising a lot of people . They were not as big as the previous team but could score points in bunches and had excellent special teams . Playoffs scores were Jefferson Forest 41-16 Amherst 58-0 Martinsville 31-0 Park View 21-20 One of the best games I have ever seen . 2000 Salem did not even when the district Northside did and had a talented team and defense . Salem earlier , in the year , had lost their first ever game to Lord Botetourt 10-7,they also lost to Northside 16-6 and Pulaski 35-21 but by playoff time the defense and special teams were doing a job and we started pounding the ball with 283 pound fullback Manuel Lewis . playoff scores were Lord Botetourt 41-0 Northside 10-6 Magna Vista 43-0 Park View Sterling 17-10 In 2004 Salem had balance , not very big but could throw or run and play some defense but they could score on anybody . Playoff scores were 22-14 at Liberty 24-14 at Amherst 42-28 at Richlands 16-14 vs Harrisonburg in 2005 Salem had a better defense , not quite as good of a passing attack a sprinter at quarterback and running back and a great wide receiver . playoff scores were Pulaski 34-7 Amherst 17-14 Bassett 35-14 Powhatan 28-10 There were other teams including this year where I thought if things would have gone a little different or sometimes it was one play , a key play in one game like in 2006 when we had Amherst beat and the DB got sucked in when he was supposed to leave everything in front because Salem was winning with less than a minute to go . In 2007 we had a great chance at Amherst . There were teams back in the eighties that were extremely talented that lost for one reason or another Maghenbauer getting hurt in the playoffs , Salem losing 31-27 to Spotsylvania to a less talented but determined bunch at Salem Stadium . It takes a lot to win one cherish them .

I think the same can be said of Richlands because even in years when they do not quite have it you know you are in a ball game and better bring it or you will lose .

This just looks as a great matchup . Remember Brookville was knocked out by Northside last year and Richlands by another Roanoke team , Cave , and bot teams have extremely good quality players with good coaching . I hate that Salem did not go farther but I am excited about the whole AA field . The division 4 matchup has questions . Can Christiansburg slow the power ground control of Harrisonburg ? Can Harrisonburg stop the depth and speed all over of Christiansburg ? The players realize that this is the Harrisonburg coach Sarvers last year . They would like a retirement party with him in Lynchburg at Liberty University . I have seen a lot of state titles in Salem and realize the sacrifice of the fans , players and coaches and want to say good luck to all participants . It is very hard to win a state title and a lot of things have to go right . Looks like some good matchups . Hope you do not mind me having a little fun with it since the spartans were not quite good enough this year .

still has one year of high school and will pick up other offers other than UVA . I was curious to see how he will be evaluated because he will obviously change as he continues to progress. If he works hard he could possibly play outside Lb or safety depending on frame. Cole for Cave is a little quicker and faster but he has a year on Johnson . If Johnson works on lateral quickness and speed he will start to get multiple offers. And going to a combine always helps. He is a very big player but has potential to be better .

I have a saw a lot of analysis on here about Richlands pounding the ball against Cave and some of that may work but probably not as good as it did against Cave Spring .As far as the Defense and offense I would look at the Northside game against Brookville .Northside gave up 273 yards through the air but had 2 picks and 2 fumbles when Brookville ran the ball . Northside had 195 yards rushing and 103 yards passing . They also had 3 turnovers . This evened the game out . Richlands has the ability and experience to open in different formations . The game plan should be to vary offensive offensive playcalling and formations, keep the ball score quickly when you can and not turn the ball over . This sounds a lot like the Cave Game but not totally because Liberty was a pound the ball type and they did not win against Brookville. Richlands need some balance to limit possessions and scoring opportunities . But eventually Football usually comes down to turnovers .
