  1. I agree BigO....time and hard work will mend a team together and they will get better. But thats a big jump. That's like losing to Arkansas Pine Bluff by 30 at the first of the year then managing to beat FSU or Alabama by seasons end.....just a hard pill to swallow. However this is high school and not D1, FBS, or FCS talent...So you do have a point......anything can happen when it's a bunch of high school kids. I hope they both represent their school well in the first round and make a good game of it.
  2. Just from what I know about Tommy Walker this year I find it hard to say that PH wins this one because I don't see how they would have lost to TW. Clintwood will play a solid game and are always physical. ...no matter the pure talent level they have. (And I make the comment about the talent level because I've not seen them play this year other than on highlights) I was gonna say PH would pull the upset til I read that PH lost to TW.....that kinda rained on my upset parade. Clintwood - 41 Rebels - 20
  3. Well speed kills that's for sure! But just maybe the size and strength of Lee will wear on Appomattox and they can pound the ball, eat the clock, and keep that speed off the field. Lee definitely has some good sized kids on the line and the RB's and QB are big and really strong. Hopefully another SW VA team that makes it to the 2nd round.
  4. I agree with you BigO....either run the ball for the score or kick the FG....Their kicker seemed to have a boot. And a 2 possession game would have made a huge difference in how Marion would have had to play it out. But whatever the case be as to whenever they play the game, best of luck to the Falcons and wish yall a safe travel.
  5. I'd like to see them win! I'm rooting for southwest VA all the way. Like to see the trophy come back to this area. Anyone have enough info on both teams to make a prediction?
  6. What's everyone thoughts and predictions on this game? I don't really know much about Appomattox but from what I've heard from everyone else this game seems like it may be one of the best first round matchups. All I know is Lee is a solid team that could very easily be undefeated right now.
  7. I didn't realize there was such budget cuts recently. It would be costly for sure. And i agree with being in a rhythm of playing on Fridays....but riding that far in one day and then playing makes it rough on players. But without the budget to do it....doesnt really matter one way or another. If Abingdon is the better team they should be able to overcome it anyhow
  8. Was just wondering if I had missed something pertaining to Abingdons record. Nothing to slight your post or the point you was making about the Falcons and how they have progressed. If you read earlier in the thread you will see where I gave Abingdon credit where it's due. And i agree with the facts you made about the game. However I do think Colobro made a good decision by going for the TD.....but the particular play call wasn't the greatest. Sturgill hadn't been stopped running the ball all night. I don't see why you don't spread them out and run the ball. Marion played with 3 down lineman most of the night and left gaping holes up the middle. Which leads me to wonder why you run out of shotgun formation when it's 4th & short if the defense has 3 down lineman almost all night long. He could have walked into the end zone if he had got under center and went with a quick count. But that's just merely my opinion. However I was watching from the Marion side at the game and even Marion fans were telling me that they were glad that Sturgill was running out of shotgun since their D was only playing with 3 down lineman. Falcons played a good game for 3 quarters...but that won't win the game against a good team like Marion. I think physicality was the biggest factor in the 4th quarter once Marion gained momentum
  9. Appreciate the link union_fan! And not to take away from your post BigO.....but didn't Abingdon lose to a team that has an 8-2 record as well? It was their first loss of the season
  10. Well RebelDad.....the particular Seavers boys I know of actually played in the 90s era. More than likely were kin to the ones your mentioning. The GC and Graham battles have been some of the best I've ever seen....right there with PV and Appy. Ive seen most of the films from those years though. ...including the films from the early 70s. My uncle played with The Phantom Phil Rogers and that championship team from GC. And If this is true that they are playing on Friday night, ill never in my life understand wwhy Abingdon has chose to do so. Leaving on Friday and staying the night to get settled in and get some rest seems way more strategical and sensible.
  11. Haha Ole Fastpitch7 is throwing knuckleballs already and I haven't even stepped up to the plate! Let me get in the batters box first overachiever. I've been attending GC ball games since I was 5 or 6 years old and haven't missed more than 5 in my life since then.....The good, bad, and downright ugly! I'm a big blue diehard through and through. But I however like to see teams do well from this area when they aren't playing against GC. It feels good when NoVA schools get spanked by SW VA teams and shows them that life does exist below the Roanoke line
  12. That's some good info.....Wilson Memorial is ranked high though and are supposed to be legit....but have they played anyone themselves to validate that other than the Riverheads team they lost to? And Appomattox from what I've heard is solid...but we too will find out about them after they play Lee which could upset anyone on any given night. Losing to those two 2A teams might not speak real badly for Broadway even though it does look bad losing to a smaller school.
  13. Yea i generally try to stay as humble as possible instead of pissing in someone's oats before they even get the chance to stir them. Looking forward to some posting here throughout the post season. Hopefully someone from SW VA will bring home the trophy! But back to the game at hand......has anyone seen Broadway play other than the one individual that said he saw them on video and they looked sloppy? I guess I'm gonna have to look them up and see if they have any good video clips of them
  14. And thank you BlueRazor. Just wasn't enough friendly chatter and good football smack talk on the other board I'm a part of. This board seems to be pretty eventful from some of the stuff I have read from the outside looking in. Some of the stuff a few post on here is downright comical....and i had to get in on some of it!
  15. I was asking how many Seniors Abingdon has that are starters because I was going to mention that talking smack to a team with the talent that Richlands normally has isn't the greatest move. It will come back to haunt you. Might wanna be humble and enjoy your win over a Richlands team that is down compared to the past 5 or 6 years...and i mean that with absolutely no disrespect to Richlands. Still a good ball team that can beat anyone in 2A if they are firing on all cylinders
  16. Never said that they could win without talent. But when you have good coaches it obviously will make a difference in the kids attitude toward the game when they know their coaches are proven and they believe in what they have to say. That's a part of it to begin with and getting players to play that walk the hallways that have never touched the field. Peaking their interests in a game they've never had any interest for....you'll see talent that normally may have never graced the field. I know what it takes for success.....i was a part of a successful program and am proud to say so. I too also know the difference in coaches that know what it takes and getting the best from their players in comparison to coaches that are okay with just being a "good team compared to usual".
  17. How many Seniors do yall have on the roster fatherfalcon?
  18. It's possible you'll notice the difference! Haha The point being the coaching staff at Abingdon now knows how to win and what it takes.
  19. I agree that's a haul and it definitely doesn't benefit a team to travel. I thought Abingdon defended the run well.....shut down Wagner for essentially 3 quarters. But once they came up short on that TD pass and lost momentum it's like they gave up! At that point Marion just showed way more physicality and started making great blocks for Wagner. It will be interesting to see how they do.....I'm no Abingdon fan but I think Reed and Colobro has already made a difference in the atmosphere in Abingdon. They may have something in a few years. Can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap in one year if you know what I mean!
  20. Have you got to see any Broadway games this year by chance? I've not seen or heard anything about them
  21. Well i know the Falcons played well against a solid 2A Marion team. I can't say for how that will bode in the 3A bracket considering I've not seen any of those teams play but I feel they should do okay in their first game of the playoffs at least. And very true....I'm well aware. Play calling was an issue as well as it took them out of the game in scoring position....When their QB was getting 5-10 yards a clip and they passed on a 3rd & 4th and short which played into Marions hands
  22. I guess Broadway must be that good then. Because the team I saw against Marion played a good game.....minus the 4th quarter. And too i keep forgetting that they are in 3A....whole different world
  23. After the way they played this past Friday against Marion it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to see the Falcons make a good run in the playoffs. I had no bias on the game....and i for one got to witness them dominate in all facets of the game....yet still come up short on the scoreboard. I felt like a couple bad play calls and a costly turnover on downs inside the 5 yard line was the turning point in the game. No offense to Marion though....they are just a tough team with good talent. I've not seen Broadway since 97 when they played GC for the state title.....but I'm going to say the Falcons win if they play similar to this past Friday!
