  1. I run a fantasy baseball league at yahoo every year with guys from VA/TN/NC and a few didn't show back up this year so we're about three short. If anybody is interested it's a free league and the ID is 88787 and PW is baseball. Feel free to join, it's always competative and everybody generally sticks with it all season long. Thanks.
  2. you heard correct, he's only there as a teacher though, not coach.
  3. Back during the 2003 season MV also had three separate athletic directors that were responsible for that kind of thing, there were three levels that the eligibility of the player had to go through (coach, AD, guidance counselor) and all three missed it, so it was never just on the coach, that's just what Dodson wanted to make it out to be! He was the only one ever disciplined in the incidence also.
  4. I'm not sure if too many people had seen this article in the Roanoke Times so I thought I'd post it on here to see what everybody thinks now. http://www.roanoke.com/sports/etc/wb/45647 I'm sure most have heard what happened with Coach Beckelheimer being let go from his coaching position due to an instance that happened back during the season but what came out in the paper at that time was apparantly wrong information that could come back to haunt members of the Henry County school board and the superintendent of schools Dr. Dodson. He was let go on grounds that he was not a fit role model to the students but in his hearing this past week the judge found him not guilty for drunk in public and then lowered the wreckless driving charge to failure to maintain a vehicle due to falling asleep at the wheel. The state trooper never administed a breathalizer test or a blood test and also stated that coach was very respectful and that he had no problems with him. The judge pointed out that the signs and symptoms that coach beckelheimer was displaying could have been from a concussion sustained in the accident due to the laceration to his head as well as broken ribs and other injuries that he received in the accident. After saying all of this I believe it is obvious that he was wrongfully terminated as the coach at Magna Vista and something needs to be done about the higher ups on the school board all the way to the top. A man should never be let go without his day in court and they are not above the law as they think they are. With everything that was said in the paper from the school board about him not being a good role model for the kids on the team I think it was proven in court not to be so and since that was in writing in various papers I believe that qualifies as defamation which can and I'm sure will be taken to court if coach beckelheimer doesn't get his job back. I would just like to know what everybody else thinks about the situation. In the poll, do you feel he should get his job back or not?
  5. Bassett 28 Martinsville 21 looks like bassett may have just about overlooked martinsville!
  6. correction to my previous, abc 13 out of lynchburg is reporting 34-14 MV.
  7. I got a phone call saying MV 37 CC 14 but they didn't know if the MV was exact, they said it could have been a point or two off but MV definintely put it on them in the second half of the game.
  8. Depending on which team actually shows up for both teams. Both teams have been subject at times this year. Magna Vista has made a habit of stupid penalties in quite a few games this year that will kill a drive in a heart beat and Carroll has been sketchy against better running teams. It's definitely going to be a good game. Will it be another 0-3 game like a few years ago, I highly doubt it but who knows. Being played at MV always gives an intangable to MV with playing down in the "Hole" but it is the playoffs and both teams have made it this far for a reason. I'm a homer so I am obviously going to say MV over CC but I think it will be a great game, too bad I'll be working! One thing I am going to miss is a MV/Richlands game this year. For the past few years it seems we've made a habit of seeing each other in the playoffs, best of luck however in your new division.
  9. send me a message if you've got an extra one that you are willing to sell!
  10. That QB Option out of the spread that Richlands ran against Magna Vista put up some good numbers. The first score of the game for Richlands was on that play 51 yards out. Richlands has more weapons on the ground than just Ringstaff, from what I saw however, they are only used as a last resort. If they mixed it up a little bit with some options more often I think Ringstaff would be even more dangerous!
  11. That kicker is the most accurate toe bash kicker i've ever seen! Most kickers on all levels now days kick soccer style but the Keene kid who still uses the old toe bash does a pretty good job of it! He's accurate and he's got a pretty good foot. I was impressed with his play in the Magna Vista game as a kicker.
  12. Up until now I've chose to stay out of all of the bickering back and forth, but I guess I'll throw my two cents worth in here since we're going to have a reasonable conversation. Just a few of my observations from both teams. I've seen Richlands play in person (magna vista) and salem on television re-runs. Salem seems to spread the ball out very well and they have an excellent QB to get the ball distributed. I don't know what game time conditions are going to be like in Richlands on game day, but I've got a feeling if it's raining and that aweful wind is blowing, throwing the ball may not be an option for either team. Against Magna Vista, Richlands only ball movement on the ground was by their QB who I might add has some pretty good speed. Ringstaff never really showed up, I don't know if that is due to Magna Vista playing stingy run defense or if it was just an off night. I would believe it would be the run defense, but you can only defend the run for so long before they start to go to the air. Against Bassett last week (a game I didn't see, just read various newspapers), it seemed to me that if you took away that huge run in the first quarter, the blues really didn't run the ball that well against Bassett either. Richlands defense like mentioned earlier in the thread did bend a little bit in the first half of the game against MV but it did not break. MV's tight end made some unbelievable receptions in double coverage and that was what kept MV in the lead until the 3rd quarter. If it rains, the offensive game plans may just go out the window. It's already going to be slippery out there, and if it's raining during the game, I don't really see how anybody is going to be able to throw the ball. Both teams are very good teams with very good key players. If Richlands can open up some holes for Ringstaff early in the game, and put points up in the first and second quarters, I would look for a Blues win. If Salem's D can hold Richlands in the first half and put some points up on the board in the process, I don't think Richlands will be able to overcome a large first half deficit against Salem's strong D. I know Richlands has been a second half team all season long, but you can't get down early against a team like Salem. In all reality, I think Richlands can hang with Salem if the line shows up to play ball (which from what I've seen, they do every game). It's really a toss up, but home field advantage has got to play a huge roll in this one. I haven't been in a high school stadium all year long as loud as Richlands. The band plays some pretty wild music and the crowd is nuts! It's a great home field atmosphere and that's something to be proud of. Best of luck to both teams. I've got to be pulling for Richlands in this one just because of being from Region 4, but whoever wins this one, make sure you stick it to those boys out on the coast and show them just how we play hard nose football down here in swva!
  13. All I've got to say is come friday night we'll see what kind of storm you've really got brewing. If you think this game is going to be a cupcake you've got another thing coming, nobody is going to lay down for your so called storm or whatever. Best of luck to Richlands!
