  1. As per Rick Vencill, RHS's AD on pre-game show last night that Grundy and Lebanon had dropped RHS from their 2011 schedule. Richlands picked up Pulaski County and Patrick County both are AA schools. Stuart, Virginia is on the other side of Hillsvile. What a long trip. I miss not playing Grundy, as they are great sports. How many years have we played each other ?

Slick Rick Vencill dropped Grundy. Grundy still wanted to play. He said they already had enough single a games. He needs to watch how he words things!

  2. I personally know one that it happened to back in the late 80s...father worked for the railroad and had worked in Roanoke for several years, living in Botetourt Co. He got transferred to Bluefield and lived in Bluefield, VA...two sons, the oldest was a friend of mine (a year younger) and the younger one was a few years young and was developing into a pretty good football player (played his FR/SO years at Graham and started both seasons FB/LB). Father got transferred back to Roanoke...they planned on moving back to Botetourt Co. because they had friends there but the railroad "suggested" and "found" them a home in Salem so the youngest could play football for the Spartans. He ended up at UVA on scholarship, starting at FB his last two years there.

Sweaney. Was a heck of a loss for the G-men. You can not let good kids go like that. But it turned out well for him.

  3. Comments? Anybody?

Didn't he coach defense??? ON a team that gave up over 33 points per game???....Or am I incorrect about that?

I have decided that I am part of the problem for Graham's decline in football recently. I have noticed that the public in general in Bluefield, VA is very pessimistic about Graham's footbal program as of late. I for one have decided to be more positive and encourage folks to support the team as much as possible. Complaints and excuses are contagious. I would like to remind the young men playing for the G-Men this year, of the G-Men tradition and encourage them not to let it fade away, it's not too late. You are G-Men and you should hold your heads high, I would also encourage any young men who would like to play football at Graham, but are not for some reason or another, to go out for the team and play...you'll never get these years back. You may regret not going out for the team, or not playing.

Everybody who supports Graham has a responsibility to help build the team up and not put it down. I've done my fair share of complaining about it, but I'm going to try to turn that negative energy into positive and support the kids as much as possible.....

I'm getting old....don't want to be bitter....and old....

  4. It really wasn't that big of an upset. Grundy is improved and played Richlands close earlier in the season. Richlands is young and didn't hit much all year. Great win for Grundy but I'll be very surprised if they're one of the three teams to go to region.

As far as this tournament I expect Abingdon and Tazewell to play in the championship, and I think Tazewell will beat them this time.

I guess that is why they saved Lockhart to pitch against Abingdon instead of Grundy last night. Sounds like someone got caught looking ahead!

  5. Abingdon 7-1

    Carroll 6-3

    Richlands 5-3

    Tazewell 4-3

    Marion 2-4

    Grundy 2-5

    Graham 0-7

Does anyone know if Marion - Graham played last night or if Tazwell - Grundy played on Monday. These 2 games are not reflected above.

Grundy and Taz did not play Monday. Grundy plays marion today and Graham on friday.

  6. My point exactly. I have 4 daughters, ages 28, 27, 20 and 18. I think they qualify as young people, and I love them very much. I want them to be able look back and say, "I'm glad somebody finally woke up and stopped the madness back in 2010 instead of just turning a blind eye to the situation and letting that Obama guy run wild and dig us deeper and deeper into a hole we couldn't escape". I don't want them to say, "Why didn't my dad's generation see what was happening? Why didn't someone stop the madness? Why are we now at 30% unemployment? Why didn't they realize taxing businesses at an alarming rate caused those same businesses that were employing the middle class to go bankrupt? Why didn't they scream at the top of their lungs 'Wake up America!!! We're losing our country and allowing countries like China to rule the economic world' "? I want to leave a better country for my kids and my grandkids to live in. I don't want our great Nation to be at the mercy of countries like China...or eventually third world nations who have all the natural resources. We have all those resources at our disposal, so why not use them? Why do some of these over the top environmentalists oppose drilling? I'm telling you, if we continue going down this path, we're all going to wake up one day and realize we have lost our country. I won't be here to see it, but some of you just might...and maybe then you will see what apathy and blindly following these socialistic idiots has done to the USA.

The sad thing is they (the young) are going to try to blame someone else for the Obama tenure. Just like the Obama administration blames Bush. The young people want to be heard, but want no part of something that goes wrong. Taking a hand out is far more easy than getting your butt out of bed and going to work.

  7. Take away these, and what are the incentives for people and/or families staying in the area? Kiss opportunity goodbye!

Same old story. Going to cut athletics from the budget again. This only gets people's panties in a wad, and they raise hell. The school board knows if they go on record to cut music, art and band the public looks the other way and says nothing. Looking at the numbers in our county, you are talking less than 100,000 towards sports. They are in for fuel and coaching contracts only. The board of supervisors provided each school an activity bus and the coaches drive them. The only reason some kids come to school is for sports. What happens to their budget when they start seeing kids jump across state lines to play sports. The math is simple, each kid that leaves cost the system an average of $5200.00.

  8. I am not sure where he ended up in terms of Mulkey, but he may not have surpassed Timmy Brown either?? I watched all three play in there respective times, Mulkey, Brown and McGee. Gunner was way behind the talent factor of the other two. Mulkey and Brown were very smart court players, understood the game and it showed. They were not blessed with the talent around them that McGee had this year, but in my opinion either one of these guys were hands down better players, and not becaused they scored more points. They were both better defensively and better all around players. Not taking anything away from McGee just they way I saw it. I am sure others may disagree. McGee playing at the next level, we will just have to see.

Do not leave petey ball out of the mix.

  9. who was fighting? Players and fans? please explain

Two fans from Richlands. Both men were men in their upper 60's. The head coach from Richlands dad was the one who jumped the other man coming down the aisle. That was it until the one who got jumped went outside and collapsed. The police than came in and removed Mcgee from the gym. Reminded you of Grundy and Richlands of old.

  10. where the rfs that bad or what cuz i havent seen a coach ejected in awhile?

When a coach goes out on the floor to the top of the key and confronts an official during play, he deserves what he got. Does not matter if the refs were bad or good, you have to talk to them at the proper time, not when action is still in play.

  11. And if the game was scheduled in Marion, the hold up would be Grundy. No one wants to travel all the way to Grundy in these conditions.

Wrong. County teams played last night in Council. I am sure 81 and 460 are cleared better than the road to Council. If that was the problem, why did they ask to move it to Bluefield and play? If you can get to Bluefield, you can get to Grundy. The roads are clear here.
