The Piedmont Dist. got railroaded just to satisfy a bunch of cry baby AAA schools. I hope the Piedmont Dist. hires some lawyers and takes legal action.

Hopefully they will come up with another redistricting plan since the enrollment figures are wrong. T

Under the current VHSL plan the Piedmont Dist. would have 5 teams: Martinsville, Patrick Co., Tunstall, GW Danville and Halifax Co.. I'm sure GW Danville will dominate in football. Roanoke Times article: http://www.roanoke.com/sports/breaking/wb/301746 I think Magna Vista, Bassett, Franklin Co., Halifax and GW Danville should form a district. Form another district with Martinsville, Tunstall, Patrick Co., Chatham, Gretna and Dan River. This current plan needs some major tweaking.

The Seminole would be a good fit for GW Danville and Halifax. If this plan is adopted then I hope Gretna, Chatham and Dan River are brought back to the Piedmont Dist..

I just heard on the news that the VHSL is recommending a new district be formed to include, Patrick Henry, William Fleming, Magna Vista, Bassett and Franklin Co.. I'm not sure where GW Danville, Halifax will end up. The only teams that would be left in the Piedmont Dist. are Martinsville, Patrick Co. and Tunstall and you really can't have a district with 3 teams. Interesting to say the least.

What do you guys think about Carrol County joining the Piedmont District? Highway 58 runs through CC and the heart of the Piedmont Dist.

Thats the part i cant understand, im all for tradition and all but if your not even close to being competitive then why play up? Espicially when there is a solution.

 

 

What district is GW Danville in?

GW Danville is in the Western Valley Dist. with Franklin and Halifax Co.. Franklin Co. had over 2000 students last time I checked. It would be neat if they built a new high school and formed two AA teams. Building a new high school cost millions so I doubt that will happen any time soon.

martinsville has had the highest unemployment rate in virginia month after month after month for the last 3 or 4 years or more. henry county and the city of danville are always near the top 5 localities for unemployment as well. i don't know the exact numbers this time around, but martinsville has dropped to barely over 700 students.

Sometimes I think Martinsville should drop to single 'A' Div. 2 and move to the Dogwood Dist. with Gretna, Chatham, Dan River etc.. Tunstall could also move to the Dogwood and maybe even Patrick Co. It would be like the Piedmont Dist. of years gone by. Magna Vista and Bassett could form a District with GW Danville, Franklin Co. and Halifax.

Danville has lost a lot of industry, especially in the textile area. The population has decreased and so has the school enrollment. I think GW has around 1300 students now. In the past they had around 1800+.

Not sure how much interest there is on the forum about Danville dropping to AA but considering they used to be Div. 6 AAA, that is a significant drop. Not sure if they would move to the Piedmont Dist. or the Seminole Dist.. The Seminole would be a better fit competition wise but the Piedmont teams would be a lot closer.

I wonder how athletes that play multiple sports will deal with the new rule? Will they have to pick one sport and stick with that?

Foster has said many times that he isn't interested in making a lateral move. He likes where he is at and what he has in Blacksburg. Foster wants to be a head coach at a BCS conference school, no less.

Good coaches take a lateral school and build them into BCS contenders. If he waits around to inherit a national championship team, he will never go anywhere.

I heard Uva has dropped Richmond off their schedule for 2010. To me that means only one thing....Mike London is leaving Richmond for Uva to take the HC position. Also hearing rumors of Bud Foster taking a head coaching position....haven't heard any details on that.

Patrick Co. beats Bassett 22-0 Final. I think Bassett's starting QB was out due to an injury and I'm sure that made a difference.

Carroll Co. won that game with a touch down pass and zero time on the clock.

Sort of like personalized licence plates...it makes sense to the person driving.

I wouldn't read too much into a few QB's leaving a program. They could stay at Miami and set on the bench or transfer and get to play for another team.

I don't think Heritage has a whole lot this season...MV might just pull off a victory...

MV hasn't been the same since their head-coach was fired a few years ago. I think that demoralized the program but they have a new coach this year who might bring them around. I'm hoping Martinsville's new coach, Bobby Dalton, will bring Martinsville back to it's former football glory. Dalton is a gentle giant but can crack the whip when he needs too. The turnout for the Bulldog football team was good this year with 20 more players than last year. Dalton appears to be having a good impact already.
