I guess if all Bengal fans had your attitude I would feel differently right now. It seems the rift between Martinsville and Henry Co. run pretty deep along many different lines. I wish we had political leaders from both sides that could pull the city and county together but right now we don't. Cabel 18 doesn't help matters either, they seem to want to keep things stirred up between Martinsville and Henry Co..
You don't know the whole story ProudBengal but I know some Bengal Fans who have been downing MHS and it's coaches for about 2 weeks now a I've grown a little tired of the jawing. Normally I root for the PD teams but not this time. Good Luck to you and the Bengals...you're going to need it.
Thanks for the info. VHSDevil. If the weather is good I might ride over to Bassett and watch the game. Amherst shouldn't under estimate Bassett because the have a good team. It wouldn't bother me to see Amherst blow them out...in fact I hope the do.
I'm from Martinsville and normally pull for Piedmont Dist. teams in the playoffs but Bassett fans are talking junk about beating my Bulldogs so I'm rooting for Amherst this time.
Amherst travels to Bassett this Sat. to take on the Bengals. I've heard that Amherst probably has the best team in this part of the state. Does anyone know much about them and what kind of offense and defense they have? They beat Salem the other day so the Lancers have gotta be good.
I went to the game and the Dogs looked pretty solid defensively and on the offense. Martinsville probably had a 100yds in penalties and if it weren't for all the penalties the Dogs might have put up a few more points. Carrol Co. run what looked like a double wing T with one back usually going in motion but they seemed one dementional and really didn't throw the ball that much. Carrol Co's #6 seemed to be their go to guy but the Bulldog defense hung tough pretty much the whole game. Congrats to the Dogs and Taylor Edwards.
Martinsville's coach Taylor Edwards is retiring at the end of the season. In fact today could be his last game against Carrol Co. but I hope the Dogs win and get one more shot at Bassett.
I think Carrol and Martinsville will be evenly matched. Here lately the Bulldogs have been playing pretty good football. When they beat Magna Vista 34 to 6 at MV that really surprised me. The Dogs should have the edge playing at home.
I went to the game and Martinsville is definitely improved but I wouldn't say they are a dominating team. The rest of the season looks pretty tough with Halifax, Franklin Co., Bassett, Magna Vista and Gretna on the schedule. I think defending state champs Gretna might be the toughest team they play. I hope the dogs can go at least 7 and 3 but with their schedule the could easily end up 5 and 5.
It's about time Martinsville had a website. Is this a permanent site or a one season and done thing? The site said it was under construction but they better get to building if it's going to be worth looking at this year.

In last years game Graham fumbled six times and still won. I don't think the dogs will beat the gmen at home. That spread offense Edwards tried to run last year was a joke. He changes offensive schemes ever year, wishbone, winged-t, and the spread, heck I'm surprised he hasn't tried running basketball plays. I'm glad Edwards is leaving this year...it's time for a change at Martinsville. With that said, I hope Edwards and the dogs go undefeated this year and win state.
I hope your optimism about the Dogs having a great team proves to be true. They open against Graham so they should find out what they are made of pretty early. I notice their schedule has six home games, I hope to attend 2 or 3 of them. It will interesting to see what the new MV coach does with the Warriors this year.
It looks like Bassett continues to have good turnouts for their team. Martinsville's numbers seem to be about the same. I hope the dogs can win the district this year and if they stay away from injuries I believe they can. The Bulldogs have a lot of good players but not much depth. Staying healthy will be the key for them.
as far as replacements for coach edwards...i think both bobby dalton and kelvin jackson both might be interested as far as in-house guys. although coach jackson might prefer the head basketball job instead.

I heard the Carlisle rumor from a friend who is going to send his boy there. And he said they are considering starting a team in 09. I think they have more students than you might think. I'll bet Carlisle has 300 to 400 students in 9th-12. Any idea who might take Edwards place or who would be a good candidate for the job? I always thought Bobby Dalton might make a good coach.
I've heard rumors that Carlisle is going to start a football program in 09, could it be that Edwards is setting himself up for the job. Dick Hensley was headmaster at Carlisle for a while and he and Edwards go way back. With Edwards experience and knowledge of the game he would be a good choice to get a new football program off the ground.
As I understand it the changes will occur in the fall of 2007. In other words, not this coming football season but the next. As a Martinsville fan I'm glad they will be in Div. 3 with the likes of Cave Spring and Richlands etc..
Looks like the road to the football state championship got a lot tougher for Bassett and Magna Vista. I think the River Ridge Dist. coming to region iv will make the playoffs a lot more interesting.
When is Martinsville going to get a descent sports website like some of these other schools have? It would be nice to go to a Bulldog website and find out who's on the roster and what the schedules are and maybe even have a message board like this one.
First, allow me to clarify a common misconception. The 'Dogs gym is called the "Dog HOUSE" while the "Dawg Pound" is the seating area for the student cheering section and all those Bulldog "rowdies"! And our starting center was not LOST for the season as you make it sound but only for a LARGE part of it. D'andrew Jackson, J. D. Tyree, and Michael Hughes provided the team with "center by committee" during Jervis' absence as the three sophomores filled in quite adequately during his "enforced" vacation.
