  2. Lets get this straight.

Obama proposed the Sequester, Obama signed it into law.

Now Obama, wants to blame the sequester on the economy tanking!

All of this over 2% of the federal budget being cut.

This guy is the "great manipulator." I watched a speech yesterday where he basically used fear mongering to eventually blame the double dip recession on the sequester.

I swear this guy might as well have said that the world will end, snakes will crawl into your beds, grandma will starve to death and our children will suffer from rickets if we have to make these God awful cuts.

He has the power to determine where the cuts are made!!!!! This is a set up with the following scenario playing out.

Economy falls into a double dip recession, Obama blames the 2% of sequester cuts on the recession and then says, "if it weren't for the sequester, my policies would have brought us out of this mess, but thanks to the evil demands of the GOP and the 2% cuts we are now going through this recession thingy again."

    Wake up America!

  3. Doesn't surprise me one bit. But, I thought that some of you would find this interesting.

By the way, this isn't the only reporter/journalist/commentator that is being thrown under the bus to save this failed administration.

  4. All kinds of "wrong" here.

First, Virginia's economy is nowhere near fragile. Virginia's economy is consistently a model to the rest of the nation. It is easily the best of any surrounding state, and probably the best one of any state not named "North Dakota". Virginia's one of the few states that doesn't have to bat an eyelash to make and meet a budget, either.

Second, Breitbart (as it always does) is making a mountain out of a molehill. The sales tax is jumping from 5% to 5.3%. DEATH, DOOM, AND DESTRUCTION TO ALL, amirite? Besides, that extra revenue is OFFSET by a $.14/gallon DECREASE in the price of gas, the sum total of which will be used to fix NOVA's hideous road system, along with other renovations by VDOT.

It's one of the few things the General Assembly did CORRECTLY this session...

I was implying that the national economy was fragile, not the state economy, and that this "increase" could be negative publicity in the effect that it will undboutedly be championed by future Republican opponents as "the largest tax increase in Va. history."

I understand that this has been offset by other decreases. But, when election time rolls around and we are electing a new governor, this will be used to destroy any positive impact Gov. McDonnell will have on his legacy by the Dems. Inmy opinion, this is more of a "big legacy project," to be used as a talking point/braggin point in a few years, by a potential presidential candidate, which explains why I refer to McDonnell as a RINO. Spending is spending, even if cuts were made elsewhere to allow for this spending. It's sort of like saying we are gonna stop wasting money in this area, so we can spend it in another area. Once again, I don't have a problem with $ in more needed areas, but in the end, I believe that it will be used against him, after all he did say that he would not increase taxes while governor.

    The measure includes

■Sales tax hike from 5 to 5.3 percent

■Additional sales tax hike of .7 percent in Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia

■Personal property tax hike from 3.5 percent to 4.3 percent

■Tangible personal property tax hike to 5 percent

■3 percent Northern Virginia hotel tax

■Diesel tax hike from 17.5 cents per gallon to 6 percent tax on wholesale diesel, roughly a 5 cent per gallon increase

■Car tax hike from 3 percent to 4 percent in 2013, 4.1 percent in 2014, 4.2 percent in 2015, and 4.3 percent in 2016 (Remember when Republicans got elected in Virginia by saying we should get rid of the car tax? Good times.)

This will hurt Cuccinelli in the long run, I almost guarantee it! Keep in mind that this measure was favorably endorsed by big govt. supporters Tim Kaine and Terry McAuliffe. Which appears to follow more of the Karl Rove approach of moving the Republicans more toward the left in an attempt to be more like the Democratic Party. I personally do not believe that the future success of the Republican Party is in becoming more like the Democratic party, I believe success, if any, will be found in providing a solid alternative to the big govt., big spending progressives.

With all this said, I have been somewhat pleased with McDonnell, but on this issue, I am upset.

  5. Thoughts on the largest tax increase in Va. history? (me, I don't like it, proves McDonnell is a RINO)

Will this increase be worth it in the long run or is it something that could devastate our already fragile economy? (I think it will hurt our economy and not be the legacy that McDonnell expects it to be)

How will this impact McDonnell and his 2016 Presidential run? (it will be used against him and probably curtail his chances of any real success)

Do you agree or disagree with this measure? (totally disagree)

  6. You make a jump from "homeschool participation in athletics" to "a la carte subject participation" that is neither sequential nor logical.[/QUOT

If the athletic participation argument, which is based on the "because I pay taxes, " position, is deemed acceptable, then it could open the door for other outlandish suggestions based on the same position. This very idea was discussed at the VHSL principals meeting last year. If the can is opened for athletic participation for homeschoolers it could change the entire dynamics of how and what portions of public education could also be affected by a decision that would have allowed homeschool participation. Thus my reason for the a la carte comment.

  7. The old "I pay taxes, so my kids should get to play public school sports," argument. Goes without ever considering the fact that a lot of other people "pay taxes," that benefit public schools, and they don't even have children, or their children are long out of high school.

A la carte public school participation would eventually lead to parents choosing to homeschool their child in subjects that they felt were inferior or subjects that their child struggled in, while allowing him or her to take other subjects in the public classroom. There is no end as to where this could go. Some could start arguing that since their tax dollars help pay for school bus transportation that their child should be able to ride the big yellow bus to town, or to nearby neighborhoods etc.

I am a huge proponent of homeschooling, but I also think that attempting to mix the two is disasterous.

This argument is growing in popularity but in my opinion it would do nothing but make a mockery of competitive high school sports. (there is a joke in this last sentence somewhere, but I'll stop for now)

  8. Actually, this elk and several more just like it, were released in Buchanan County last year. True, we are in close proximity to Kentucky and some could have possibly migrated over, but this elk and several others were part of a release program to help develop an Elk Herd here in the county.

The Lottery will play out in the near future, beginning first with only 1 winner, which can claim one Elk only. Then it will move on from there.

The county is already using the moniker on brochures, websites and on signs that say , "Welcome to Buchanan County, The Elk Capital of Virginia!"

  9. Actually, Paul's entire political world view, including the isolationist position were mainstream Republican positions from the 1910's through the 1950's. It was only through the election of Nixon, the work of William F. Buckley and Reagan that it became the non-mainstream view it is today.

I actually agree with this..................what is the world coming to?

America has historically speaking held to an isolationist view and most consider this to be a leftist view, perhaps it can be considered so today, but history supports what you are saying.

  10. this is one of those issues in which he is so far right that he's a lefty on this one....

not trying to argue, because it does seem to be a leftist comment, I don't know any other way to interpret it. But then again, that is Libertarianism for you. Some views might come across as socially liberal and some as socially conservative.

Interesting way to view the political spectrum is as follows.

    Total Govt. [=====================================] Anarchy

Here is how our political parties line up.

    Total Govt.[=======D==R=========================C=======] Anarchy

    The D= Democrat R=Republican and the C=Constitution

Both LEFT AND RIGHT are LEFT in America!

    Just some food for thought

  11. I vehemently disagree with Ron Pauls statement(s).

However, the Libertarian ideology that Paul promotes should not be attacked, just because Paul, a Libertarian, made the comment.

Limited Govt., Free Markets, personal responsibility are admirable positions and fundamentally American to the core.

Paul should be publicly called out on this and to my understanding he has OR is considering an official statement about the comment. (not saying that this makes it right)

But, then again, as distasteful or upsetting as the statement might be, Free Speech is still permitted in this country, even if that free speech gets a person a lot of negative heat. (Deservedly so, in my opinion, especially in this case)

BTW, since we are asking people to "apologize," why not ask Obama and Hillary to apologize for the death of 4 Americans in Benghazi?

  12. I buy insurance for my car, never plan on using it!

I buy insurance for my home, hope to never use it.

I stock up certain needful items in the event that I get laid off, hope to never use them.

Preparing for a currency alternative, in the event that something devastating happens to our national currency, is just that, INSURANCE, against a seemingly unlikely event. Nothing wrong with being prepared.

I agree with Lance, probably won't happen, but there is nothing wrong with a contingency plan!

  13. Can't believe much of anything you watch on t.v. these days, the networks are so biased and so subjective in their reporting that it is safe to say that the "4th Branch" of Govt. is just as corrupt as the original three.

NBC News Caught Using Deception Again

  14. How is that? We have an incredible amount of information today even compared to just 20 years ago. Way more news websites, tv channels, and such that are giving out information 24/7. And kids today are learning at a much more rapid pace and will further expand all the technology and such that we have greatly when they're older (I have a one year old niece and two year old nephew who can literally work parts of a smart phone, like pulling up their favorite videos on youtube with it). Now if you're talking attention span or something along those lines, then I'd agree that kids today have the attention span of a goldfish and it's because of this information overload. But I just can't see how you could disagree with the fact that people today know an incredible amount more than the average person did at any other point in history.

We have access to more information today than ever before in history, but access to information does not make us smarter. Today, an overwhelming majority of Americans are historically illiterate, they do not know who we are, were we came from nor how our government is supposed to function. I know that this alone does not constitute mass ignorance of every subject, but it does shine a light on a segment of our decrease in knowledge.

Children may very well know how to operate a smart phone, video games etc, I suppose that if I stayed in front of a t.v. screen or played a video game for 8 hours a day, that I too would be able to operate it fluently within a short period of time. This does not make me smarter, however.

I will sum it up with two words.............COMMON SENSE!

The common use and understanding of the English language was much more broad a 100 years ago than it is today. There are many contributing factors and much could be said about computers, and programs that do the "thinking" or correcting for us. But when it comes to vernacular we most assuredly are a much dumber generation.

Remember George Bush "Is our children learning...." quote! LOL

  15. Could not possibly be more wrong.

    Amen to that!!!!

Just for kicks consider the questions given to a Geography student in 1890 compared to the questions given today. The knowledge bank expected of students then is overwhelmingly large, compared to the bank of knowledge exhibited and required by students this day and time.

  16. It would also force candidates to take each state seriously and not just focus on battleground states.

I disagree, if anything it would lead candiates to only pander to large populated states and areas, leaving rural America out in the cold. That is one advantage, albeit small, of the Electoral College, in that it forces candidates to give more consideration the wants and needs of each individual state.

A popular vote only method would reduce the wishes of small states to the whims of the larger more populated states. Which was one area the Electoral College was designed to assist in preventing.

We need the Electoral College but a compromise like the one above is something worthy of consideration.

  17. Since when did Democrats worry about the Constitution? (Sarcasm intended)

Fact is two wrongs do not make a right, Gerrymandering by either party to gain any type of advantage is not in the best interest of the people. Just goes to show that manipulation takes place, regardless of what side of the aisle that you are on.

I imagine this will be shot down or"compromised," before it is over with.
