  4. Which team has the "edge" in the following areas: (1) Quarterback; (2) Running Backs; (3) Receivers; (4) Offensive Line; (5) Defensive Line; (6) Linebackers; (7) Defensive Backs; (8) Special Teams; (9) Intangibles??? Justify your reasoning! Here's mine to get the ball rolling! (1) Quarterback: Big edge to Powell Valley!!! Robbins has passed for over 1,500 yards, around 20 TD passes and has completed about 70% of his passes...Price has done an admirable job replacing Spivey but is not the runner or passer Spivey was. (2) Running Back: Even...If you simply went by yardage, the Devils would have the edge with Will and Luke Humphreys, but McKinney is strong runner who has the speed to score when he gets the ball, while GC is more a ball control team. (3) Receivers: Big edge to Powell Valley!!!Juhan, Zirkle, Lawson, White & Keegan are all big play receivers with speed, who run great pass routes, who have soft hands and can turn short passes into long gainers...If GC expects to win, they have to tackle well...Contrary to popular opinion, Gate City can throw the ball and has capable receivers in Shepard, Castle and McMurray...Price has thrown 8 touchdown passes and it was his arm that won the Richlands game. (4) Offensive Line: Slight edge to Powell Valley...It all starts upfront and PV's veteran O/L, which average 242 pounds, has protected Brad to the tune of 45.6 pts per game...GC had to replace its entire offensive line with the notable exception of Zack Jones, but has done a great job putting together a big, (avg. 261 pounds) tough, physical group who open the holes for the backs. (5) Defensive Line: Edge to Gate City...The Devils' defensive line, which averages 238 pounds, has three returning starters, (Jones, Williams & McClain) is a physical group whose gets first priority is to stop the run and has done so very well this year. Last season, GC's offensive line dominated the Vikings' defensive line and will undoubtedly try to do so this year, control the clock and keep PV's offense off the field. Some fans consider PV's DL soft but forget that Robinette, Ashley and Ely's main job is to keep blockers off the linebackers and let the LB's make tackles. (6) Linebackers: Even...The strength of Powell Valley's defense is their linebackers and Pleasants, Spurlock & McKinney have a wonderful blend of speed and strength. Peoples often underestimate the quality of Gate City's linebackers, but Spivey, Humphreys and the others are very aggressive and strong and pursue and gangtackles from sideline to sideline. (7) Defensive backs: Edge to Powell Valley...Powell Valley's DB's have the edge in speed, athleticism and experience...Humphreys has experience and intelligence at safety but lacks the speed to cover deep...Even last season, the Devils lacked good cover corners and have two new DBs this season...However I will note that teams have only completed 25% of their passes against GC this year, although I suspect they haven't played any real passing teams and certainly none as good as the Vikings. (8) Special Teams: Slight edge to Powell Valley...Punting, punts and kickoff returns appear even to me...The reason I think PV has the edge is that GC appears to have missed an unusually high number of PATs this season. (9) Intangibles: Even...Homefield advantage for Gate City vs. Revenge of Powell Valley for losing four (4) straight to the Devils. im goin with Pv in this one..i think their o-line will hold up the heavy pass rush of the blue devils to give robbins enough time to find his speedy recievers
