  1. "Bluefield would schedule morgnatown, maybe they would be defeated but they'd schedule them and most likely be competitive with them also."

You can't be serious. Bluefield's team this season won't be nearly as good as the team they had this past season due to graduation and ineligibility and the best team in AA, Weir, beat you 40-0. How bad do you think that the best team in AAA who will win their fifth state title in AAA since 2000 after next year would beat you guys?

"Again I repeat, Rock Hill would make Morgantown look silly on a bad day. None of Morgantown's players will get D-1 rides outside of WVU. Rock Hill on the other hand sends and has sent multiple kids to all the various SEC schools to play football, not just the home state school."

Do you not watch HS football other than in the southern end of the state? Morgantown is a dynasty and is a great team. How many times have you seen Morgantown play? You obviously don't follow recruiting in our state either. Charlie Russell, QB for Morgantown, already has offers from WVU, UK, and NC State. Junius Lewis and Derek Long have been receiving interest from such schools as Miami, UVA, and FSU. And also, who cares if they would only get a scholarship to play at WVU? WVU is the defending BE and Sugar Bowl Champs and they will be ranked in the top 5 going into the season next year.

"Morgantown wouldn't have been the #2 AA school in VA in 2004...actually would have been lucky to get in the top 5 in AA in VA. And if they played AAA in VA, forget about it...they would have been hammered by several teams from the Tidewater area and a couple from NOVA."

I know you haven't seen Morgantown play and they definitely would have been one of the top teams in VA last year and the year before. Since 2003, they will have had 11 kids sign D1 LOI. And NOVA isn't known for it's football teams either. One of my best friends was from Arlington and went to Yorktown and I've met a lot of his friends from the football team at the school and they said the football there isn't that great. Again, you don't know anything about Morgantown football.

  2. Some of you people are unbelievable on here. Bluefield_Rules and Sources are two of the most loyal Bluefield fans I know and just because they don't think Bluefield is great at everything and should win every state title in every sport, they're downing the team? Bluefield had a bad game plan, just like last year against Westside, and they lost. If they didn't drive to the basket and create contact, they're not going to have a lot of free throw opportunities. I wasn't saying the Weir/Bluefield game was poorly officiate either. I was trying to make a point that Bluefield shot a decent amount more free throws then Weir did, but the Bluefield fans weren't complaining about the officiating after that game.

  3. "Why? We looked into scheduling Rock Hill, the 2004 AAAA champions from South Carolina last season. Why wouldn't we want to schedule Morgantown? Rock Hill would make Morgantown look silly on a bad day... "

Is that why some credited polls have Morgantown as high as #20 in the country and #2 in the Northeast? Morgantown has built a dynasty and they are going to be the best team in any class once again next season. They return three of the most sought after recruits in the past 20 years from our state.

"It's too bad Bluefield couldn't have played Morgantown in 2004, when we had the best team in the state."

Sources, you are a sensible person but you can't honestly believe this can you? Weir should have beat Bluefield in 2004 and even I don't believe Weir could have beaten Morgantown. The Mohigans were by far the best team in WV that year. That team was the most dominating team in WV history statistically. No team came within 24 points of them throughout the whole season, and that includes the state championship game.

  4. "Weir player loses temper near the end of game and gets T'd up...sound familiar? Must be something in the water in the Northern Panhandle! LOL!

Bluefield will play #3 Ravenswood tomorrow for the Championship at 12 Noon in Charleston!"

I know this is your site and all, but you sure take a lot of cheap shots at Weir when you're not even a Bluefield fan. That same Weir player totally embarrassed Bluefield's "athletic" secondary in the 40-0 State Championship victory this past year and was named 1st Team All-State in both football and baseball. He also has a state championship in both sports and a state runner-up in baseball. I would have been upset too. Weir had every opportunity to win that game and it just wasn't their day. But congrats to Bluefield on a great season and to the Bluefield fans, you stuck behind your program the whole year and that is why you have a great program.

"Just got back from the game fella's, one of the better games i've saw this year. Bluefield and wier both came out ready to play. Weirton took an early lead. But with Weirs big guys ( led me add, is i think thats the only reason there any good) got into foul trouble very early."

McWhorter and Hayden were not the only reason Weir was good this year. While these two were two of the best basketball playhers in AA, they had Gatto, Morris, Spencer, Gryskevich, and Orme that had great years. You must not watch too much basketball because their guards are really athletic and can shoot well. Congrats to both Weir and Bluefield on great seasons.

  5. Well obviously Logan could considering they beat Westside the next day in the state title game. Aren't you the guy that was defending the kids on the team and now you're saying it was their fault they lost against Westside? If this guy was any kind of a coach he would have taken a TO, settled his team down, and got them to start running the fast-paced offense Bluefield is used to. All they needed to do was start playing some transition basketball and they would have gotten some easy baskets. They have great athletes so why let them sit out around the three point line and throw up bad shots? Also, BluefieldRocks, are you the guy on TSP that I've been arguing with for awhile now? It seems like it.

  6. I don't honestly care about Bluefield basketball or am trying to take sides in this arguement, but I've read comments on many different boards from people and Bluefield_Rules is right. I watched the game where they lost to Westside last year and that should have never happened. What was your coach thinking? His offensive game plan was to pass the ball around the perimeter and throw up 3's all game. Never once did he try to get the ball into the paint, of have one of the great athletes on Bluefield's team penetrate and dish to try and create an open look. Sometimes, the Bluefield players were getting so frustrated that they'd put up a shot a 4 feet behind the arch. It all comes down to discipline and the coaching staff instills that into their players. Bluefield should play an uptempo, fast paced style of basketball with pressure defense. They shoudln't sit back in a zone on defense and then just settle for bad shots on offense. The athletes are there and yes, they are underachieving.

  7. You're going to criticize Dean Smith? Maybe one of the best, if not the best, college coach of all time? This is amazing. UNC beat one of the better Duke teams, or at least in their fans' opinions, in the last several years. This was supposed to be a team that was going to win the National Championship. Guess what? UNC did it with mostly freshmen who had to step in after they lost their top 6 players due to graduation/the NBA draft. I can't wait until next year when they get probably the best recruiting class in recent history to come in and we win yet another title.

  9. Logan has a 6'6" FRESHMAN that is getting playing time on varsity. They always fine someone to replace a great athlete they lost to graduation. They'll be in the title hunt again this year. I would like to see a Weir/Bluefield championship basketball game, but that's just me! LOL

  10. In AAA it's between Huntington, WW, Morgantown, and Wheeling Park. In AA, the top 4 preseason ranked teams are basically the only ones that matter. Now before someone flips out, I'm not saying no other team has a shot at the state title but I'll be VERY suprised if the AA champion is not either Logan, Westside, Bluefield, or Weir. Wheeling Central will roll to their 4th straight state title in A.

  11. Hey, I was just wondering if you took any pictures from the Weir/Bluefield State Championship game. You have a real talent for photography and I've enjoyed seeing the pictures you've taken from the '03 and '04 games. Thanks in advance!

  12. I see the All State first teams to be loaded down w/ Weir and Wayne players, and that's no disrespect to Bluefield or any other teams. Last year, Bluefield had a lot of first teamers and they all deserved to be on there. From Weir, I see Sperlazza, Lang, Dawand Smith, Josh Smith, Lyons, Gatto, and Mike Buffo to all make first team. Hayden, Davidson, and Taflan should all make second team or honorable mention.

  13. "Talent wise weir is ahead of poca in my opinion in a lot of seasons certainly, but there's more to it than that and obviously that's not every season and poca as more titles."

    Weir-7 State Football Titles

    Poca-6 State Football Titles

There is no doubt in my mind that in 03, Bluefield and Weir were the top teams in AA. On a dry friend, BOTH the Beavers and Red Riders would have beaten Poca by 2 TD's.
