I hear from reliable sources that floyd county will be missing 4 starters (including their mvp from last season) due to work commitments and a school field trip to Virginia Beach (who can blame them?).... what about other teams? any key players missing?
I would just like to see Tazewell play the better teams, that's all. I heard that Fort Chiswell has now dropped out, is that true? If so, the brackets might have to be done again anyway....
I just hope that the tourney actually gets to happen at this point and from the looks of the weather forecast, it may not be a possibility.
The big deal is that it's a tournament...and the pairings have always been slanted in tazewell's favor. What's the big deal in winning the tournament, if you're not playing the best competition? sorry, if i'm wrong, i wouldn't say anything about it, if it didn't happen every single year. When you win this tourney, just don't get too excited, that's all...
The White Division (or as I like to call it, the "weenie" division) is: Tazewell, Narrows, Fort Chiswell
The Green Division (or as I like to call it, the "studly" division) is: Graham, Floyd, and Richlands.
What's the glory in winning the white division, for Tazewell. I think they're just trying to pad their record. Drawing names from a hat, might have been the best way to go here....it looks awfully deliberate, because it happened last season.
Why does Tazewell put itself in the single A division of the tournament? and put Floyd in the AA division of the tournament? This makes no sense. Seems to me that they're more interested in getting a couple of "w's", instead of playing tougher competition to get better. Any thoughts.
By the way, I'm saying this, because I learned that Tazewell will be playing Fort Chiswell and John Battle in the tournament...
Richlands, Graham and Floyd will make up the other division...
floyd has potential to beat any team in the tournament. They are very young, like you say and were even with Graham until the last 15 minutes, then Graham scored, followed by 2 pk's and a goal on the scrubs. Since, Floyd has went 3-1, only losing to Radford. They have wins against Giles (3-0) Fort Chiswell (6-1) and Grayson County (5-0).
I've seen Ronnie Workman's name mentioned a couple of times at QB for Graham. I'm not so sure that he'll be the starter, because Matt Yost is an excellent QB and will be a junior. It'll be hard to keep that kid on the bench.
floyd did pretty well against graham. graham was bigger and faster and that paid off late in the contest. I think floyd had a let-down after playing Graham so tough until 14 minutes left in the contest. Then you could see their frustration. 2 pk's in the last 10 minutes and another goal scored by graham when all the scrubs for both teams were in. this was a very competitive game and strongly contested by both teams. I enjoyed watching it. Floyd only had one senior starting, they should be very tough in the future. Also, one of floyd's starters, Diego Dominguez got injured early on and was out for the rest of the contest, which hurt floyd, i think.
floyd has already beaten graham once 4-1 at graham. they have 2 girls with scholarships to play soccer at king college. they are much improved from last season.
will all teams be at full strength for tourney?
