a long tradition of great football in a particular area creates great enthusiasm and if it continues it creates great coaches and then spreads out from pee wees all the way to high school and sometimes beyond!some exanples would be the great mearl gainer who coached in wva and then moved to phenry in roanoke one of his assistants was willis white who later moved to coach at salem high school! along with numerous coaches that have helped out in the younger age groups current coaches that have played or coached under willis white are billy miles,head coach frankln county;brad bradley head coach william campbell; lee johnson head coach glenvar,john hinkle assistant coach glenvar; stephen maghenbauer head coach salem! those 4 programs have a current record of 32 -4!i also think that the deceased coach from graham was an assistant at ph under gainer,glyn carlock!

will graham make a playoff run? emotion is a big part of football! im not predicting a state title! just bringing about the possibility of a grreat showing in the playoffs! what does everybody think?

giles has scored 273 points and given up 95 glenvar has scored 335 points and given up 20! giles opponents are a combined 26-39 glenvar opponents are a combined 25-45 giles has played better competition with william campbell,blacksburg and christiansburg! i believe glenvar is on their homefield!i believe this is shaping up to be a great game! <font color="green"> </font>

very rarely will you have a team that will not be challenged at one time or another during the season! in my opinion richlands needed this! is richlands better than a one point victory over carroll? i believe so! but if you can win or even persevere through a game where the players and coaches did not have their best game , whether you win or lose a close won you can learn from this! the brookville game over amherst is another one and salem over cave is a another one! im not sure about the christiansburg game although i think cburg is starting to play like they did at the end of last year when they took gretna to the final minutes of that game! pulaski must shore up their defense! they have had a tough schedule and are 5-3 but they have given up 185 points in 8 games! whether crouse was out or not early they were still giving up too many points! i did not see the carroll county game but to those who saw it is carroll that good and could they possibly do some damage in division 4 playoffs? it look like carroll and the piedmont, possibly bassett and magna vista and maybe another team from there! bassett beat magna vista rather convincingly! could they be the team to beat? by the way why is the piedmont lined up with region 4 when there are when most teams on the west side of region 3 are closer to the southwest teams?

giles has obviously had the tougher schedule, plying blacksburg, christiansburg and william campbell,their only loss, but glenvar has tore apart everybody in their paTHS, including radford 41-0,even though radford is not as good as they usually are!my sources say that they have a great running back in touchdown carter brown,averaging over 200 yards rushing a game and their qb devin chappell will either pass or run! radford tried to stop the run but they were down 28-0 at half!

this week hidden valley 5-1 at salem 6-0 blacksburg 1-5 at pulaski county 4-2 christiansburg 4-2 at cave spring 6-0 division 3 region 3 has liberty followed by cave spring hidden valley and christiansburg with highest ratings!replace liberty with gretna and this was region 3 last year playoff picture! gretna beat cave spring 49-28 after cave had led for 3 quarters and christiansburg beat hidden valley 21-14 in 2 ots! gretna then beat christiansburg 49-42 for the region championship and then easily won the state! in division 4 the leaders are amherst county,pulaski, salem, and william fleming!last year it was amherst, liberty,salem and william fleming! amherst beat william fleming 38-20,while salem beat liberty 22-14. salem then beat amherst 24-14, beat richlands 42-28, and then harrisonburg 16-14 to win state!

besides richlands is the swd down this year and will they be surprised by the toughness of other teams? graham beat blacksburg in ot and they are in last having just lost to northside ! the swd is usually very tough but carrol county had a last second field goal to beat 0-6 william byrd 23-21! by the way if richlands makes the state championship i would like to set something up for richlands fans to stop over in salem for some food and drink before they head on to lynchburg! their hospitality was very classy to we salem fans last year!
