  1. Actullay it is a bigger camp with more couselors... www.goalkeeping.biz
  2. [ QUOTE ] youre being unrealistic. if you had a bunch of d-1 quality players, you would go far in states. blacksburg, who won the state final convincingly (4-0), will probably send well under half of their roster to division 1 schools. abingdon, who defeated tazewell by 8 and 4 goals last year, respectively, has sent 0 (zero) players to d-1 soccer programs ever. [/ QUOTE ] Just to make sure the facts are correct here about our program: 1) We won the state final 2-0 over Cave Spring 2) Our statering team last year sent or are sending the following players to Division I schools: Michael Gallimore - starts at UNC-Wilmington Albert Alwang - starts at UNC-Wilmington Michael Breske - signed with Virginia Tech Jeremy Williams - signed with Virginia Tech Tim Becker - is going to either William and Mary or VT Matt Becker - is going to either William and Mary or VT Stephen Brewster - walking on at VCU Alistair Moore - junior being recruited by several D1 schools. That is almost our whole starting line-up. Can players from the SWD play D1? Sure they can, but they have to be seen outside of high school ball. Did the guy from tazewell receive a letter from UCLA? He may have but if you write ANY D1 school they will send you the form letter. I have seen players that could not even play at the D3 level but they will receive "letters" from D1 schools. So how did UCLA see him play? I know for a fact from recruiting at the college level (I used to coach at Roanoke College), that UCLA attends the Raleigh Shootout, Nike Friendlies in FL, and the Disney Showcase. I highly doubt one of their assistant coaches was attending the annual Graham-Tazewell battle.

  4. Bob Trear from Blacksburg. In the early 90's they had some real battles with Richlands in regionals. I remember them knocking out Richlands on the road in 89, 90 and 92. All three years Richlands had some GREAT teams.
  5. [ QUOTE ] Tazewell plays them this year. Graham had them a 1-0 and they were frustrated. Just imagine if someone put a goal in for graham and you never know what could have happened. Blacksburg could have choked, you never know. They are a good team and I am not taking nothing away from them and I dread having to play them but you have to go in with a attitude of a winner no matter who you play. You never know if you are going to be the spoiler and take away their perfect season. But No Doubt they are a great team [/ QUOTE ] I do not know where you heard Blacksburg was playing Tazewell this year but we are NOT playing Tazewell. Last year's game against Graham was just a one year thing. Maybe we can play again in the future. It is true that this year we have 8 starters back and our top 4 scorers back as well. Anything can happen with each game and that is why we show respect to each of the teams that we play and just go out to play our best. We have co-coaches this year with myself (Travis Bishop) and Jon Bohland. We both played at Blacksburg and were all state players. I have been an assistant coach for a total of 7 years with 5 state championships and Jon has been an assistant for 3 with 2 state championships. We know what the program is about and have been a big part of building it to what it is today. Good luck to all teams this coming year. February 25th will be here before you know it!
  6. Hands-On Goalkeeping Academy is on August 4th in Blacksburg. Go to www.goalkeeping.biz for more information.
  7. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] We will be fine. We are conducting a search now for a coach. We have 8 starters returning next year and should be in good shape. [/ QUOTE ] Yeh, that's kinda scary that B'burg returns eight starters including their top scorers from a team that went 23-0-1 and won the State Championship. The only for them to not repeat, even with me coaching them, would be if they didn't show up for the Championship game... [/ QUOTE ] I do not know about all that now. We still play a very challenginf schedule that we are trying to complete. I know we are going to the EC Glass Tournament again to play 2 AAA schools (one from the beach and I think 1 from Richmond area). We still play in the toughest district in the state with Cave Spring, Hidden Valley and Salem. Remember Cave Spring played for the state title too. Also I think they return something like 7 starters. Next year it is wide open....
  8. We will be fine. We are conducting a search now for a coach. We have 8 starters returning next year and should be in good shape.
  9. Cave Spring 9 Tazewell 0 Hidden Valley 9 Virginia High 0 Both these teams are in the River Ridge which will be in Region IV next year.
  10. Blacksburg beats Martinsville 4-0. Cave Spring is up 1-0 with 8 minutes left in the first half when the game was stopped for lightning. It will resume from that point on Tuesday.
  11. Blacksburg beat Cave Spring 3-1. The winner of Region IV will host Cave Spring and the runner up will travel to Blacksburg on Tuesday.
  12. Cave Spring beat William Byrd 2-1 in one semifinal and Blacksburg beat Jefferson Forest 4-1 in the other. Cave Spring-Blacksburg final is Friday at 7pm at William Byrd HS.
  13. Our site has all regional pairings. We have Region I, II, III, and IV. www.blacksburgsoccer.net Good luck to all teams!!!
  14. On our site (http://www.blacksburgsoccer.net) we have the brackets to most of the district tournaments in the state for Group AA
  15. [ QUOTE ] me and a friend have been lookin for news paper links from other countys and if anyone knew th carroll news link thats help to thanks [/ QUOTE ] Here is the link to Virginia Prep's newspapers. It has papers from all over the state.... http://virginiapreps.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=914&CID=21360
  16. Not really. Cave Spring a very tough team as William Byrd. It was Cave spring who beat Abingdon 3-0 in a half game scrimmage earlier this year.
  17. I thought I would post some information about Region 3 on here. I love your site and makes it wasy to keep up with Region IV teams. Each and every year Region IV is improving. Blacksburg has clinched the River Ridge District with a 8-0-1 record. They have out scored district teams 63-5. Jefferson Forest has won the Seminole District. JF is undefeated with one tie. William Byrd has won the Blue Ridge District. If both Blacksburg and JF win their region III quarterfinal they will meet in the semifinal with the loser going home.
  18. [ QUOTE ] i dont remember that. whichever one is the a-team. our coach was trying to recruit several of their players for appy state and they probably ended up going on to bigger and better things. [/ QUOTE ] which tournament was it? where was it?
  19. [ QUOTE ] we went to three tournaments, winning two and finishing 2nd in the last to Highlands out of Asheville, one of the best clubs in North Carolina. in that game we were also missing about 10 players of about a 25 man roster due to prior commitments and injuries occurring earlier in the weekend. [/ QUOTE ] I have recruited North Carolina for college before and Ashville is not exactly a hotbed for soccer. Highlands is a good squad but I do not know if I would say they are one of the top teams in NC. The top programs in NC are Traingle FC, Greensboro SC, CASL, Charlotte SC, PSA Stars, and Winston-Salem Twins. Which team did you play? The white or red?
  20. [ QUOTE ] If we are the laughing then how was our club team the most dominate club team in tennesse and a top 10 in NC. We were competitive with every team we played in NC. Our record was 15-2. This team was made up kids from Abingdon and Marion and 1 or 2 from Tennesee High. We would have beaten any club team from Piedmont. [/ QUOTE ] Which regular season league do you play in? Did you play State Cup?
  21. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Club? Man we are talking about H.S. Who cares who beat in club soccer? [/ QUOTE ] Club soccer is where it is at. Scouts don't come and watch High school soccer games it is a waste of time. Club is a different story. Club is what makes a good player turn into something amazing. You are telling me that Blacksburg and JF got to where they are now by their high school programs? Hell no they got to where they are now with the club teams that they work with 8 months out of the year so.... [/ QUOTE ] I did not say club was not important. What i am saying we were discussing high school teams and then you went to club soccer. We have players that play for Greensboro Soccer Club, Blacksburg FC, Roanoke Star and have a couple look at playing for Richmond Strikers.
  22. [/ QUOTE ] Club? Man we are talking about H.S. Whos cares who beat in club soccer.
  23. [ QUOTE ] region4fan, you are really stupid!! this is the best game of the season! you probably don't know anything about soccer. you are just a fan! go home and play with your little action figures and leave the game to the real soccer players!! [/ QUOTE ] "Real" players like at Marion and Abingdon? What a joke. Take your lumps and get blown out when you play in states again.
  24. [ QUOTE ] I was standing right beside phil and he tried to bring it down with his thigh and it hit off and went in. It was def. an own goal cause our player was the last man to touch the ball. [/ QUOTE ] Who cares? A goal is a goal.
  25. [ QUOTE ] I overheard someone saying that Abingdon was now no. 8 in the state. [/ QUOTE ] New poll is out and Abingdon is not ranked. Chancellor took their place at #10. Martinsville is still #9
