  1. MED has beat up on Hogoheegee teams for the last three years. Fort Chiswell has beaten GW, RR, & Chilhowie in the regular season for the last three years. So has Grayson. Also, The Fort has beaten Floyd two times in one year (2010) Cumberland and Hogo are worse than MED.

Last two against GW by 9 points combined. I refuse to give FC more credit than is due.

  2. Dublin and Pulaski. Pulaski was the Orioles I believe. Not sure about Dublin.

Yep became Pulaski County Cougars. Pulaski is the Orioles (black and orange), or at least their middle school is and I believe Dublin are the Dukes. I know they are light blue and white.

  3. And my girlfriend had asked me yesterday who I wanted to win/QUOTE]

    That's a keeper right there...lol

And about Puyol and Pique, when both are in good form, it's hard to crack the defense. When teams are only seeing 25% of the ball, I think it makes the defensive mistakes stand out more (if that makes sense). Also we are putrid at defending set pieces. That's why I fear a team like Tottenham over a team like Manchester United. Tottenham has speed on the wing and a tall striker in Crouch and you could throw in Roman as well coming of the bench. I personally think Abidal has played wonderful in Puyol's absence as a center half. Busquets was wonderful over the weekend against Zaragoza, but let us down with the own goal against Arsenal. But overall, depending on the draw, if Manchester United and Barcelona avoid each other, it will be a 2009 rematch.

  4. And no one wants that long plane ride out to Ukraine. I've been a Barca fan since about '04 I guess. That's when I really started to follow European football. Now, I hardly miss a Barca match. To defend our defense, we didn't have Pique and Puyol last night, arguably the best center half duo in the entire world. Who doesn't enjoy the way Barca play though? So many touches on the ball, and I think Guardiola summed it up best when he said the reason they won is not because of the referee, but because Arsenal couldn't connect 3 passes in a row and didn't have a single shot all night.

I'd love to see Copenhagen demolish Chelsea tomorrow, but I don't think it will happen. I personally hope the draw looks a little something like this:

    Barcelona vs Schalke 04

    Tottenham vs Manchester United

    Chelsea vs Shakhtar

    Inter vs Lyon

I hope and pray Madrid go crashing out with a bang. I think Inter will overcome Bayern and I think Chelsea and Manchester United have easy wins.

  5. So there's this thing called The Internet where you can (illegally) watch most games and, if you don't want to do that, you can at least find out the scores of your favorite teams. If there ever was a team full of great guys who one would want to root for and follow, this 2011 Braves team is the team. These guys have great character, and play the game with the understanding that they are privileged to do so. I expect them to compete hard for 162(+?) games this season. They'll do that, if not more, until the Fall. I guarantee you that.

I know. I look at the results every night to see if they win, but I just can't watch baseball. I just can't do it anymore.

Anyone else remember when Erin Andrews was on TBS? Then she blossomed into the ESPN reporter that she is today.

  6. Saw that the Sheets in Wytheville is now selling E-85 fuel. Anybody know the low down on this? I know there are some vehicles that can run on this stuff already.....but it was about 40 cents per gallon cheaper than the regular unleaded...

I'm in on Spring Break and I drove by Sheetz today and wondered what in the world that was. I was tempted to fill up with it being so "cheep."

  7. I used to be the biggest Braves fan in the entire world. I knew everything about them. My room was even painted red and blue. It ruined my day when the Braves weren't on TV because they were playing on Turner South and not TBS. I stayed up until 1 AM on school nights just to watch them lose to the Diamondbacks (or other west coast teams) even when the game was decided in the 3rd inning. I played MVP Baseball on my computer all summer long. I played it so much, I even got bored of playing in Turner Field and always wanted to change my home stadium to experience some the AL ballparks for a change.

I sure do miss those days.

But now, as I've grown up (well 18 really isn't grown up I guess), I rarely watch them anymore. I'm disappointed in myself really. Baseball just doesn't do much for me anymore. I credit this to when I gave up the game of baseball in the 7th grade. I had a few reason to give it up. 1) I got hit in the head the year before, thus becoming scared once I stepped in the batters box; 2) I gave it up to play soccer and now my passion for it and watching the leagues overseas and the World Cup is amazing (but still not touching the love I had for the Braves years ago)

The last game I can remember fully watching was Opening Day last year when Hayward knocked his first at bat over the fence. When the playoffs rolled around, I really didn't get upset when Atlanta lost to the Giants. I was sad for Bobby Cox to not manage again because that #6 was special to the Atlanta organization. I remember I actually cried one year that Braves got knocked out.

I guess I still keep up with them a bit. I heard about the Uggla signing and got excited for a few moments. I used to be able to tell you all about upcoming prospects, but I had never heard of Hayward until I opened my SI and read the baseball preview.

Furcal was always my favorite Brave. I guess it because he was so exciting to watch. An amazing shortstop and an amazing lead off guy. Sadly his career declined once he left Atlanta.

So yeah, that's my story on the history of the Braves in my life.

  8. ...anyone following the Champions League? I know there aren't that many soccer followers on here.

The footballing gods were looking over the Camp Nou today as Barca ousted Arsenal 3-1 (4-3 on aggregate). Harsh sending off for Van Persie, but Barca were easily the better side over the two legs. Shakhtar gave Roma the business over two legs 6-2 on aggregate and advance.

Interesting games tomorrow with Milan heading to White Hart Lane against Tottenham and Valencia going to Germany to face Schalke 04. Gotta think Spurs and 04 advance there.

  9. ...so I was reading the article from TriCities on the win over EM (congrats BTW). I just have a quick question. One of the boys said after something along the lines of, "Dad's led us to state in Kentucky, West Virginia and now Virginia." Which confused me...have they been at 3 schools the past three years? I guess the coach and apparently his two sons?

  10. I personally don't like seeing the flag. I just don't want to see it. Don't get me wrong, I love living in the South, but the negative connotations that the flag carries make me cringe when I see it. If you say it is heritage (which I agree it is), would you take offense to someone flying the Nazi flag because of their heritage?

  11. I'm split on this issue. Of course, it is their logo or mascot or whatever, but at the same time, the connotations to the Rebel flag are offensive to some. I don't see a big problem with it on school associated apparel, but if there are just random flags waving around, I would have a problem with that.

  12. I do believe Hurley is a team on its way to Richmond, but on the backside of that they saw what one of the best teams in the CMD is all about. When you have the likes of GC, LEE and Va High in one district its tough. As for Va High I tried to tell people how good they could be and most don't know they start a freshman, 2 soph's and 2 jrs. They are getting better game by game. I one wouldn't be surprised to see them in Richmond this year and with a jv team winning games like they are them finding a home there for the next few years.

East Mont and Galax can play. Parry McCluer might even be the best in D1.
