  1. Just wondering how the HS coach works with the midget league program other than allowing them to use the field, but that's not really under his control either.

In some places, the HS coach is the "Commissioner" of the little league. He works with the coaches and in some cases he gives them :"basic" plays that he uses in high school. Also when the kids get to Jr. High level the coaches are using the same plays as the HS so by the time these kids get to HS they know the basic plays and the HS coach can move on to more advanced formations without having to go back and teach the basic plays he uses.

  2. Besides keeping the coach longer than a couple of years, the High School programs foundation is started in the Little League program. So if the HS coach can stay awhile and work with the little league program then the HS program will start to flourish. (Also if they can go out and recruit some good players might help).

  3. It is only proper that state championships seem to be the most prominent criterion for coaching success. One has to remember that from '46 to '70 Virginia had no state title games- except in 1-1A. A lot of the older SWVA coaches would have really done well if they could have had the chance to do so on a state level. When I was in high school a district title was all you could shoot for- things have changed. A district title is just a rest stop on the road to the playoffs for a lot of the kids.

Bradley at Graham was a pretty good coach in my day- so was Dave Rider at Tazewell-Elizabethton

Also, when there were no classes (A,AA,AAA) a small school may end up playing a school that had a much larger enrollment.

  4. I don't think that WVVA should've aired the footage of the brawl.... A quick mention that it was ended due to a brawl would've been sufficient.

I agree with Futbolking, WVVA ( like the rest of the news media) are blowing everything up and making a mountain out of a mole hill!

  5. Check out the salaries of HS Coaches in SC. Not sure if there are any in VA that make as much as some of these guys. I think these are from 2009 so you can imagine what it is Today.

I know of at least one coach that move here from Lousia County and he is probably in the $60,000+ area (he is not even listed in this chart). Also, a lot of these guys don't even teach classes!

  6. Having moved to S.C., you can see the difference in HS football and players.

Down here they allow the HS's to have a spring football practice (no pads). I think it

usually runs for at least 2 weeks plus they have the 7 on 7 in the summer. Dosen't seem

to cause any problems and they are ready for the fall season when it starts.

  7. He probably stayed at Tazewell until the kids from Poca were done. That would make sense.

And yes he probably was run off too. For some reason that tends to happen there, of course they can get a good (winning) coach there and he loses then leaves and has winning teams elsewhere.
