  1. They are talking about history and not recent success . They have a great tradition but take a cakewalk throught region 4 until Cave Spring last year kicked their butt , a team Salem had to hold down the score on 42-0 after leading 35-0 at halftime. Winning one game against a good team ever once in a while sounds like the boise st argument. They do not have the horses to run with the big boys-that is why they play single a teams . I am sure Willis White does not want to go to Richlands after the long cleat incident.
  2. Richlands still play one of the easiest schedules in Virginia?
  3. Some people just do not get it . Your personal views do not necessarily represent the majority of Americans . In fact , that was the story in the last election . Most of the people live in the northern and tidewater regions . Obama won Virginia and the more populous states. Your views in southwest Va do not represent majority views of Americans . I am not saying they cannot but if they continue certain political tactics , they will continue to lose ground!
  4. Yea I think they should just get off BP executives back and let the oil flow!

  7. While UVA is trying for numbers and coach Mike London is doing a good job of that so far , Va Tech has only signed 2 recruits for 2011 so far in Kris Harley out of Indianapolis and Ronny Van Dyke out of Lorton , VA . both 4 star prospects. they have 4 others who are said to be getting close although I would be surprised if they get them all. They are : Demetrious Nicholson DB out of Bayside in Va Beach , who mentioned his lifetime dream was to play at Va Tech. Kiaro Holts OL out of Warren Central in Indianapolis , who is making his second visit to Va Tech. Florida is also on his list. Donanvan Smith OL out of Maryland making his second visit Marquise Wilson QB out of Charlotte who has on his final list Michigan, Va Tech and North Carolina
  8. 65-70000 come on - apparently you flunked statistics.
  9. I know you feel the need to protect your background but the 3 most popular sports in America are football , Basketball , and baseball , and soccer and baseball are not revenue sports.I thought we were talking about college sports , not world popularity. Because of the bow-tie crowd at UVA football will never be a consistently good sport there.
  10. Both institutions are very good academically , with different specialties. UVA has been stronger over a longer period of time. Va Tech has slowly built itself into a very good academic school who now only takes students with very good grades. It has become more popular and thus, more picky. In major college football sometimes the best athletes are not the best students but there are exceptions. UVA has now and then took some iffy student-athletes such as early on in the Al Groh era and history may repeat itself with London but UVA frowns on this reputation. and the Groh era quickly came to the end. Notre Dame has had that problem recently and their program has fallen dramatically. Va Tech has taken more readily the iffy student but Beamer and his staff has learned to do a better job of research on the behavior problem students but sometimes those problems prop up. UVA is very good at athletics in non-revenue sports. But those type sports are not the most popular and are filled with 5'9" white guys, who mainly come from good families but are sometimes anti social . Lets face it ! If the athletes that play basketball and football suddenly decided to play Lacrosse , do you think UVA would be a powerhouse anymore ? The question is there : does UVA want to have a consistently good football program? Football is a sport that the best athletes come from either poor or working class families who are not necessarily the best students.
  11. WDBJ 7 in Roanoke has reported that sports radio the zone out of Atlanta has said that Va Tech was given an informal invitation to join the SEC! Thoughts! Just a rumor started by a radio show? http://www.wdbj7.com/Global/story.asp?S=12632439
  12. along with possibly 2 other teams, including Georgia Tech and Clemson.
  13. I've always got it but I don't think the previous eight years of totally Republican congress and the white house was any better. That has been my contention all along. We have people in the senate who are for themselves , not the American people. The Republicans do a better job of promoting this thought , without any actions. I am not for bigger government but for responsible leadership , not just the talk but action.
  14. Glenvar , who used to be a part of Salem , loses some of its best skill players , but return most of their lineman and have some hard workers. Last year Glenvar managed a tough 2-3 three rivers record , losing 3 close games. Was Glenvar better or the three rivers not as tough? My guess is a little of both ! Head coach Kevin Clifford has quietly been building a following in west Salem and if the hard word continues , they could possibly do a little pushing. returnees include: Cory Bolden 6-1 245 Tim Woods 5-10 185 Phillip Tarpley 5-11 195 James Harvey 6-0 240 Tyler Brumfield 6-4 250 Jacob Noble 6-1 210 Jake Salmon 6-1 285 Camren Wynn 6-0 205 Justin Farmer 6-3 335 Nick Lane 6-2 234
  15. The gains were not as big as thought and a lot can be attributed to the census , and other government jobs. I really think this is a big change in the economy. education is a big advantage to finding a job and that needs to be in a specific field. If you have children, read to them early and educate them as much as possible. I know we want to assess blame , but there are big changes in the economy. I know one person said on here that you can go work somewhere else , but the companies can hire somebody else , or go overseas.
  16. ADFORD -- All eight runs Salem (12-13) gave up came in the first two innings and were unearned in the Spartans' loss to Abingdon in the Region IV finals in Radford. Emily Taylor pitched seven innings for the Spartans, striking out five batters. Katy Stauffer hit a 2-run homer for Salem, while Amanda Dalton and Ellen Weaver each had two hits. Will both teams advance?
  17. Record 32-22 96 win pace. Hitting Heyward has been everything and then some for a rookie, on pace for 30-114 Glaus has been superb, on pace for 30-126 Hinske has been extremely productive, on pace for 12-66 in only half as many at bats as most of the Braves players. The doubters of Prado are starting to leave - he is on pace for 232 hits. Jones may not get much better , on pace for 9-63 Escobar has not been productive so far , but I believe he is starting to come on. Cabrera has not been productive so far , but he is showing signs and he is a warm weather hitter , a slow starter. McClouth has not come out of his funk - I do not know what to expect from him. McCann has not hit like McCann - is this attributable to his eye problem? Summary: I think the Braves could possible get better, because at least 2 or 3 of the bottom five will be much better the second third. Starting pitching Lowe , Hudson , Hanson , and Medlen have been great. Kawakami has not been great but has not got much support.Jurrjens has high hopes after injury. Summary: Probably about what we expected. Could possibly get better. Relief pitching The depth of pitching is the best I have seen in a long while in the braves bullpen. The Braves do not have Soriano , who is having a wonderful year with the Rays with 15 saves so far. But Wagner , Saito , O' Flaherty , Venters , and Moylan have been great. Seaon so far and looking forward . Great so far and the recent win streak has been a product of increased productivity out of Glaus and some other hitters starting to show some pop , such as Escobar and Cabrera. I am really hoping McCann gets hot. Man, would that help!Should we even think playoffs? Probably not , but we can think ahead and what I see as in previous years is there will be early and late sellers. Could the Braves possibly pick up a player for the stretch run? What about somebody like Zack Greinke or possibly another big bat? The Brewers have several power hitters, but not much pitching!
