  1. Two quotes from this article sum up Battle's entire team and season.

“I believe in hard work and determination – you have to give something in order get a return,†Harlow said. “We’ve all worked really hard on this team, and that’s paid off.â€

    And This

Harlow said that will to prepare dates back to the end of last season when the Trojans closed a 6-5 campaign with a 55-13 loss at Gretna. It was the first playoff appearance for Battle since 1998.

“That whole experience was a motivator,†Harlow said. “After going through all that, including the long bus ride, we knew what to expect this season. We went right back to the weight room and went to work.â€

  2. Oregon can get to the title game. Here's how -

    ND loses to USC

Bama beats UGA in the SEC title game

Florida loses to FSU in the season finale

Oregon would move to 2 and play Bama for the title.

This is actually very likely since Florida is awful on offense and ND can be very up and down on offense as well. I'm hoping that the Irish seal the deal though. Would love watching Bama beat ND to death in the title game. On another note, Go Stanford. The last thing I want is for my Huskers to play Oregon in the Rose Bowl. A Stanford matchup sounds much better.

  3. Unless Bob Stoops has redone his contract in the past year or two..... He has it written in his contract that he has to stay the highest paid coach in the country. If any coach is given a larger contract, Oklahoma must go $5.00 over that amount. This was in his contract a few years ago..... I'm not sure if they've redone it in the past 2 years though.

  4. I've told everyone..UT doesnt have the funds for Gruden or Petrino. The next headcoach at UT will be 1 of 3 guys. 2 of which would be solid hires, 1 is overrated. I'll list them by who I think is the most likely to be the next head coach.

1- Charlie Strong - Was Urban Meyers D-Coordinator at Florida, has deep recruiting ties in the south, and has built Louisville into a solid football team. IMHO, would be the best hire in this situation and wouldnt cost an absolute fortune.

2 - Kirby Smart - Saban's D- Coordinator. Everyone has him as the top D-Coordinator in the country but I believe it would be a mistake to hire him. We all know who runs the Bama Defense. the title D-coordinator is just a name in this case. But with a Bama man as the AD....UT may buy into the hype.

3- Gus Malzhan - Former offensive coordinator at Arkansas and Auburn. Has Arkansas State playing very good football in his 1st head coaching position. This would be a great hire for UT because kids want to play for him, especially offensive players. The reason I list him as the least probable is because I'd bet the farm that he's the next head coach at Arkansas.

  5. It wont be Gruden or a big time head coach. UT doesnt have the funds, as alot of boosters had to front money to fire Dooley and staff.

It'll be a young headcoach or proven coordinator. That's not a bad thing though as there are a few very good ones out there.

  6. As for how long it keeps going....Battle and Ft. Chiswell played a benefit game before the season started which was a very tight ball game. The starters were left tied and the Ft.Chiswell JV's got the game winning score. That's been a long time ago, and both teams have improved. Should be a great game next Friday.

  7. Honaker may not want to hear this....but it was the first game for Battle without Cody Rogers playing....he was out with a high ankle sprain. Though 1 man doesnt make a team, he is the most athletic player on the field and really stretches defenses to open things up for everyone else....... Also, Battle had 5 turnovers in that ball game that left the defense on the field the entire game...... Honaker is a quality team, but that was a little bit of a fluke game. Anything that could have went wrong, went wrong. That's taking nothing away from Honaker as they took advantage of everything like good teams do.

  8. Giles fans are not allowed on the CMD board, lol. To many idiotic statements that'll be used for motivational purposes.

You must be talking about Dossy? the jsbdad...isnt even one of the players fathers. I can confirm that. Noone on the team has any idea who the idiots are.

  9. They make it hard to pull for what could have been a good story this season.

Believe it or not...the kids on the field representing John Battle and the community are some of the most humble, hardworking kids you'll ever meet. Every school has a few knuckle heads....these just found their way to the internet.

  10. I agree that Bath didnt run the wing like Giles. But they ran their version of it to perfection. IMO, later on they were very predictable also. In the 1997 semifinal game against them, we keyed the FB every play....and he took us to the ball. I'm not sure how noone else figured that out during the season. lol

  11. You do realize that Bath used to run it as good as Giles. It won Bath a few state championships and got them to the semifinals a few more times. In the later years...it wasnt so pretty because they didnt have the type of kids to run it.......which is why they switched to a splitback veer. In 1989, they had 3 1000 yard rushers....Undefeated season until a 5-5 Appy team upset them in the semifinals.

  12. If people dont remember....Bath County used to run the single wing to perfection also. In the early 2000's they went away from it in favor of the Splitback veer offense. It's a hard offense to prepare for, because it's almost impossible to expect your 2nd team to simulate it in practice.

  13. Giles may win...but I'd be shocked if they score more than 21-28 points. Coach Wright may be the best X's and O's coach in SWVA...... they'll have a solid gameplan to slow down the Giles offense.

I expect a close, hard fought ball game on Battle Hill. BTW, It will be played Friday Night at 7:30
