Just like I said, other teams with not as good of a record are going to the playoffs. Why should Hurley be any different playing under the same program as all other schools...we DESERVE to go as well as the BIG BOYS..what is the big deal, all that can happen is they win or lose...I think it would be nice to say hey, "We are going to the playoffs but we don't know how far we will get but just proud to go" if its just the first round at least they felt they had accomplised something...Hurley is not too shabby this year either and look to be better next year so, yea, i say we should have the same opportunity as other schools as it being under the same program....
They can let everyone in for all I care. The ones not deserving to be there will be weeded out.
Why do so many get their panties in a wad when someone says Lee County High School? Just for this reason I will now refer to them as Lee County High everytime I mention them.lol!:D
All of these posts still does not answer my question why should any school be denied 6 spots and every other region all around has 6 ...we have 4...if you are a teacher, just by looking at each child in that room, do you determine which is the smartest kid in that room....you cant till you see him do what he does best with his hands not by statistics or sol testing. Do we need to determine who is the smartest kid just by a test...I think not, undoubtfully its not about the kids here with you guys, well it is me...you cannot set and say if you have not watched them that "by the test" that they do not deserve to be placed in the top six...who cares what you think ...if its not for the kids then dont speak...if you have had a kid in this kind of situation then speak but until then keep the negative comments off of this thread.....all in all if you haven't seen them play don't pass judgement ...everyone deserves to be somewhere....and I feel the program should be treated fairly as possible...I wouldn't have started this thread if i didn't think Hurley didn't deserve a spot...a lot of people may not want to admitt that they do and make all negative comments..but this doesn't justify why we do not have six spots to fill....like the rest of the program....nothing I have read on the posts has any weight to it.....
Because Region D is crap! Best thing the VHSL can do is do away with Regions and make things uniform one way or the other. Besides the only championship that should matter is for State. I do not like that each region controls how the playoffs are played or where they are played. Region D is the worst in the state forcing the top seeded team to travel to UVA Wise to play for a Region title. Region D is and always will be run by Wise County.
GC also won their district title and got an automatic playoff spot in '94. I think the playoffs are too watered down as is. As an old timer, I remember a very good 1973 GC team that might have been Coach Fry's third best team behind the '74 and '70 team. They got their QB hurt and lost to Va High. They were 9-1 and SWD co-champs, but didn't go to the playoffs. They simply didn't take care of business. At one time making the playoffs was a great honor. Now it has become somewhat of a disgrace if you don't.
The only honor that should matter is to win state not just make the playoffs.
I like what a guy said on another board I read. Just do away with the 4 regions and go with 2. For instance in single a combine regions c and d and combine regions a and b. Let in either 8 or 12 teams and the playoffs would become very interesting! I would pay 10 bucks a game to see some of those matchups!

Well that system would have made Div 2 Playoffs : GC, PV, Honaker and Coeburn (Not exactly the cream of the crop)
Coeburn and Honaker would be automatic bids every year being that they are the only D2 teams in their District. They could go 0-10 and still be in the playoffs. LOL!
Why is a team not deserving with a 6-4 or even a 5-5 record? In 94 Gate City lost in the State Title game by a score of 12 to 7 after going 6-4 in the regular season. In 88 Jonesville not only played for a State Title but won it after going 5-5 in the regular season. Appalachia also won a State Title after going 5-5 in the regular season. That is three teams I can think of right off that made the title game after going 6-4 or 5-5 and two of those teams brought home State Crowns. Where they not deserving to be in the playoffs? Would have been bad if Suprbeasts logic was in effect then.
Open the playoffs up to 6 teams. If they are not deserving teams then they will not last long. It will really make things more interesting. Right now all Honaker needs to do is win three games a year to make the playoffs and could make it in with a 3-7 record one of these years. It will not be a big deal to have a 6 team playoff. It is a win win situation.

Probably. Liberty has some type of construction going on I think. I would like to see them rotate sites every year. There are a lot of nice college stadiums in Virginia including two in this part of the state with UVA-Wise and Emory & Henry. I hate the lime green carpet at Wise but the facility is very nice. Emory is in the middle of an improvement project and are turning that stadium into one of the most beautiful in the state. I think they're planning a new field house and press box for next year.
UVA Wises stadium is to small to host that game. They are installing Field Turf at Wise within the next year or so.
I thought you guys were talking about the state championship game. For any playoff game prior to the state game then yes it should be to the most deserving team. My bad I miss understood your question.

I like the State Title games the way they are though I would like to see the D1 and 2 games at Virginia Tech.
Do they do that for all regional title games in va.,, if not who voted for it, even more, if not, it should be easy enough to protest or change.
Region D is the only Region to do this. Regions A,B,and C is #1 seed hosts the finals. In fact I think Region D is the only Region to do this in all 6 divisions(24 Regions). I truely feel this is an unfair situation. The Region D principals voted for this. Should have been voted on by the coaches.
They do that stuff here for the regional championship games, playing both divisions at UVA-Wise. The majority (other than Wise County residents) absolutely hate it.
I think if you earn the right to host, you should host.
The only reasons that was ever voted in place was to keep the Wise County Schools from having to travel and give them the better advantage. That place is a joke. The visitor stands are smaller than most High School visitor stands. It really pisses me off to see this happen every year. There has to be a way to get this changed. It is not fair to anyone outside of Wise County. I just wonder if a petition could be made to the vhsl to over turn the Region D buttholes?
nah to be honest the game was actually worse than the score shows....congrats to you guys, looks like you finally got your blowout you have been wanting all year against the mighty John Battle...lol...and you probably took it easy on them at that.
Actually I thought Battle was more impressive than Tazewell. That would make a great close game if the two could play each other.
The fact is I watched V High play earlier this year and they run the same offense that PH does - the stinking spread. Once again, we lose running it and so did the cats this week. Who on here really likes the spread . . . I dont!:mad:
