  1. I don't think i have ever saw a QB and a FB run into each other so much. That was really bad. The onside kick was hilarious. Where was the hands team lining up at. That could be on Americas Funniest Home Videos.

I noticed that too. Number 60 for Graham was on his way to the endzone on that onsides kick. He should have been concetrating more on grabbing the ball more than looking for a whole to run through.

  2. it looks like rain off/on all day down here. this might be bad for the falcons. how is tazewell up front? i heard they lost their best 2 lineman. can we line up and run right at them? i have a bad feeling with this weather! we need a dry night in order to throw the football around

Your not saying another storm is going to blow away those Falcons are ya?

  3. It was a whistle from an old steam engine...they didn't use it too much against Graham in '84 but there have been other years that it blew quite a bit...

You can hear it on this video at around the 2:00 minute mark or so...

In that video it was a set of Train Horns a guy has on top of his vehicle. The old Train whistle that was nick named the Big Blue Cannonball has long since departed from Gate City. Last I heard it was in some museum if that is true.

  4. St. Paul, hands down. On the visitor side, not that there is much of one, you can't see anything. If you are trying to sit on one of the three rows of bleachers, you have to look through the chain link fence. It is horrible.

That wouldnt classify as the field though. That would be a seating issue. I think it was Appys field at one time was full of rocks.

  5. And all of this no longer matters. The game was over almost three weeks ago. And why 8ball or whatever do you write the same thing that others here have run in the ground? I know how bad some of the GC fans can be but that is just some of them. They have more than other schools because their following is bigger. Everyone here is just preaching to the quire.

  6. Actually when I hear "Enter Sandman" I think of seeing Metallica live and of memories from that period in my life.

When I say Richlands did it a few times... they did it a long time before Abingdon did. I did notice Powell Valley playing Thunderstruck (not sure how long they've been doing it) but I've been trying to get Richlands to come out to that song for years. The weather tie-in is perfect.

Speaking of being original... Why do Abingdon's pants look exactly like Richlands? And why do the stripes on Abingdon's helmets look exactly like Richlands? And why does abingdon end pre-game warm ups exactly like Richlands? I'm not complaining about it, just curious.

Since this thread has gotten way off topic... I think Abingdon has a chance to pull an upset. I'm not saying they will but I think they could.

PV has been doing it for a long time now. I am thinking since late 80s or early 90s. It is what I call the PV baney rooster strut!LOL! Just kidding!

  7. When Abingdon come through the stadium one of them is going to fall one day and bust his ass. Don't matter how you come on to the field as long as you can play football.

    Bingo!

And Southbound when I hear Enter Sandman Abingdon is the last thought on my mind. It is Virginia Tech that comes to my mind when I hear that song. That song and entrance just does not fit with Abingdon at all. One of these days it might but not now. The best thing any school can do is worry about playing football and not some cheesey entrance.

  8. Richlands has come out to Sandman a few times (when they get to use the PA) but I'd rather see them do something original. Thunderstruck would be perfect.

And I don't think it's lame at all. The pageantry of high school football is a big part of what makes it special. It's when you don't have the pageantry and tradition that it becomes lame.

Isnt that what Powell Valley does their strut to?

  9. In 1984 Graham and Abingdon each went 8-1 to tie for the SWD Championship. Due to scheduling we did not play each other. We lost to Bluefield by 1 and Abingdon beat Chilhowie in our non-district games. Abingdon was awarded first seed in the playoffs and us second. We had to go to Blacksburg and Abingdon hosted Radford. We lost and Abingdon won.

Hey G-Man: Do you know how they were seeded 1 and us 2. I have wondered to this day. I know I am biased, but I feel that kept us from advancing far into the playoffs.

The reason Graham did not advance far in the playoffs is because Blacksburg beat them not because Abingdon got the #1 seed.

  10. The Highlands was a bad situation because you have Va High, Abingdon, and Marion and you could win 2 games and make the playoffs...another reason people give abingdon down the road around here...they couldn't even do that with much luck.

I know Va High made it one year with a 3-7 record and there were 9-1 and 8-2 teams in the other districts that didn't make it to the playoffs...flawed system, they should have just made those teams in the Highlands join the SWD and be done with it so you would not have had that situation...3 team district is useless.

I thought Lee was in it too. Highlands was done away with after Lee dropped to D2 I thought?

  11. This has probably been asked before but I have always been curious about it. I dont remember the year but I would like to know a little info on how the GMEN won the AAA state title. How did they choose teams then for the AAA playoffs? What was Grahams record and who all did they play and beat?
