but no one touched the ball on that screen! But the lineman!
Wrong....a Tazewell player deflected the ball which knocked it off course from the intended reciever....the play was a middle screen. Two ref's immediately gave the hand signal for a deflection. Only one ref didn't see it and he was the one that threw the flag.

If I was Wyatt and/or Marrs I'd be sending this game tape to the VHSL, or whoever oversees the officiating, for them to see how incompetent these officials were. These guys don't need to be officiating at the high school level...esp in a playoff game.
-
That David Marrs is the fastest QB in the state of VA, or maybe the country. He took a snap with 4 seconds on the clock, ran backwards a couple of yards, then ran across the field to the sideline and fell, all in 2 seconds!! That was amazing!!

IMO, Graham can play with teams who don't run the spread. The Spread offense seems to give Graham the most trouble. Great game today by the G-Men!! The players have played the butts off all year. It's good to see them rewarded with a trip to the playoffs.
Go G-Men!!!!

I agree 100%....plus the lack of coverage of middle school and rec athletics is horrible. I've lived in other areas and all the newspapers had much better sports coverage.
-
For those who lost a loved one today I'd say today was as bad as 9-11.
Obama is a joke.

graham has one the biggest and strongest teams in the district what they lack is the speed factor.
Bingo...graham has some big strong players....no speed.

Does Graham stand a chance of winning this game? Will the fact it's a Saturday afternoon game and Senior night(day) make a difference? I've not seen CC play but from what I've heard I think Graham will be able to score, just not sure if they can stop CC from scoring.
Go G-Men!

Congrats RHS

what in the world happened I left with 3 minutes left thinking Graham stood no chance
Marrs to Byrd happened!

Congrats Grundy!

Abingdon played hard but Graham just wanted it more and outplayed them in the end.

I love how Tech fans brag about how great they are and how they are going to be in the national championship game and then they a lose a couple games and then the same folks says tech really isn't that good and expectations were too high and their coaches suck. That is just football guys, cfb is very competitive and anyone can beat anyone on any given day.
I would love to see one post by a VT fan(s) bragging about how great they are and that they are going to be in the national championship game. Please find that post so I can see it. If you do I'll never think your full of *! again.

VT may not be good enough to get the Chick-Fil-A bowl this year.
Thanks Stinkspring!!!

Abingdon would dress up as panty models, you can fill in the rest. LOL
Saw that coming from a mile away!!! LOL

I have been a Graham fan a lot longer than you, and I personally see nothing wrong with what he said. And do you think he is the only one? I saw a guy running around Bluefield,Virginia the day of the Graham/Beaver game with a beaver hat on. And this was a man who supported Graham for over 40 years.Sometimes you need to be truthful. As long as people like you continue to empower the coach over there then he will never leave. I applaud Eurkel for standing up in what he believes is right, whether you agree with it or not.
The part that bothers me is the "Graham has no heart". How could anyone who has watched Graham play say that? They have never given up this year. They have endured poor coaching decisions...coaches that have not put them in situations to win...and yet they continue to go out and play hard for four qtrs. The reason you see people not supporting the team around town are because of the coaching. People want change. But I don't hear anyone who's watched Graham play or anyone that truely know GHS football say that the players have no heart. I bet Marrs will leave after this year. Hopefully some of the assistants will leave as well.
-
Eurkel....I would love to see you go in the Graham locker room and tell those kids they have no heart. Bash the coaches all you want...most here agree about the coaching...but the players have a ton of heart. They have never given up in a game and do their best despite questionable coaching.

VHSLhelper: Hey, I wasn't suggesting that enrollment was the only reason for a decline with Grundy, but it is certainly a main factor. How ironic that you mentioned Graham as their program is also struggling. I would suggest that declining enrollment has to be hurting them too? They had 15 kids on a JV team a couple of years when we played them at Graham and didn't have a JV team last year? Yes, there are other factors (poor coaching, poor relationships with kids and parents, poor facilities, younger kids playing soccer or just one sport, poor recreation or "feeder" programs and the list goes on), but a decline in enrollment hurts ANY program, even those with excellent coaching.
Graham had a JV team last year with about 20 players on it. What is Grundy's enrollment this year?

Graham kills Abingdon....35-14

Not being from Grundy or knowing what contributes to their problems regarding wins/losses it's hard to say what should be said or done in practice. If I had to say something to the G-Men I'd tell them to get their butts in the weight room in the off season. To many of the players show up at two-a-days and start from there. Also, there needs to be some camp participation in the spring. Graham does nothing as a team. No 7 on 7's, team camps, recieving camps, nothing. Graham needs to build a football program instead of just fielding a team. This may be what is going on with Grundy as well.? Graham may also want to look at some of the coaching....I think Marrs is a decent head coach but he's letting some assistants bring down the team...and ultimately it all comes back to the head coach.

Seems Graham just couldn't keep up in the second half. Richlands connected on some deep passes that Graham couldn't cover. Graham couldn't tackle in the second half, they weren't getting to the ball in a hurry. As it often happens with Graham, the coaches didn't make any adjustments to try and stop the pass or to get some fresh legs in that could tackle. Offensively the G-Men coaches seemed determined to run up the middle all night. I'm not sure if we passed at all on first down..at least not until we got behind.
-
Good game tonight....Richlands outplayed and outcoached Graham. I thought it might have been close but Richlands' speed took over and they were able to run away with the game in the second half. Graham's secondary and linebackers were way to slow and weren't tackling well tonight at all.
-
Well if it happened then I have to wonder why/how did the coaches allow it, or did the coaches participate?
Congrats G-Men!

Usually when the officials let them play there are hardly any flags thrown...this game had flags thrown almost every other play. Granted there were a bunch of off-sides (esp GHS) but the ref's seemed to slow the game by not letting them play.
Also, on the tipped pass...it was a middle screen...the d-line was let through and the fb just stepped up to the los where the lineman that caught the pass was.
