Richlands will be good again. Not state championship good, but good enough to barely win the Region, then a likely loss by 7-10 points in the Semifinals of the State. Gate City may be fielding the least talented teams it has had in the history of Gate City football. I watched the scrimmage with Pulaski and yes, Pulaski is going to be good, but not great. PC will be a 7-3, 8-2 football team. Gate City was beatin so bad by PC that it could have been 80 to nothing in a 4 quarter game if PC would have wanted it to be that bad. On most years, this certainly wouldn't be the case and the edge to Gate City over PC on many years, but this GC team is young, inexperienced, the least talented I've ever seen from a GC program. second that, if Pulaski would have kicked field goals and extra points in the scrimmage, the score line would have been in the 80's-90's region with us only getting 15(I think). But look at the bright side, we will be STACKED in the coming 2-3 years.
you guys have a really good QB and a lot of great athletes...smallest line i've seen there in a while, but the kids played hard. Good luck to you this year...hope its way better than 5-5.
If #12 was QB last night, he is the second string and will be playing mainly WR and maybe some HB this year. We will be ok, very very young team, should be STACKED in a couple of years. Good luck to Grundy too.
Nah. Needs to be done. I'll always be a Greenwave and love watching them every Friday night/Saturday but it's the best thing for the kids. With the school that's being built I wish it'd been done when I was in school. It's gonna be awesome.
I don't doubt that. I just think a lot of people would take it the wrong way. I'd love to see Scott do the same. You talk about a powerhouse in basketball and football.
It's a good one. I've never had a problem with any of the GC folks either. Clintwood it looks like will be around for another 3 seasons. I hope when DCHS is opened that GC is on the schedule.

That's probably my favorite now. Because of it's significance and for how good the game was. That 01 Clintwood team is the worst Clintwood team I've ever seen, btw. I'd add both the GW game and the Sussex game in their with that one.
Throw in that 97 PV/Appy game. Crazy amount of talent on those two teams that will never be duplicated around here.
99 Honaker 20 Clintwood 19. Clintwood finally got over the PV monkey in the playoffs to lose to a team they'd manhandled for several years for the Region D title. Great game though.
GC 28 CW 27 in 07. The only regular season loss for Clintwood that year. A team that Clintwood should have beaten by a few TD's that continued to keep Clintwood under their thumb. Might be the most frustrating loss ever for me. Add to that one last years CW 28 GC 27 game. Just a good hard hitting game.
94 Grundy 15 CW 8. This was my sr year and one of the hardest and most heartbreaking losses ever. I came off the field for 2 plays (both kickoffs) and could barely walk afterword. Do any of you Grundy folk remember who #55 was? Played LB and Guard. Heck of a player. He came in our locker room after word and gave me a hug and told me what a great game we'd played. Class person.
Can't remember the year but there was a JIB game with Clintwood in the late 90's. I want to say 95. Heck of a game that ended regulation 0-0 with Clintwood kicking a fg to wn the game in OT.
I LOVE the Clintwood and Gate City series. Always an amazing game with two similar teams with similar play styles. Cant wait for this year's edition
The roads, and infrastructure by large, in SWVA are leaps and bounds better than anywhere else in the state. Ever driven on 66 once you get into Prince William and Fairfax Counties? Nightmarish.
A big plus in SWVA? Coal severance taxes.
Well that. But honestly....everything else is terrible. And yes I have, but everything else they have is better.
Actually, counties west of Roanoke see a higher percentage of the state's tax dollars flow in than counties east of Roanoke. The numbers back this up, too. And if you're ever in NOVA and just so mention the words "tax dollars", they will assault your ears for a good hour on the topic.
The state of Virginia doesn't claim us anyway. They take taxes from us and we don't see any of that put into place. SWVA or (SWOVA), NETN, Northwest North Carolina, Eastern Kentucky. That'd be a fine state.
Considering the Intermediate school is newer, I have no idea why they didn't build a kitchen big enough for full function. That made little to no sense.
Oh I know, there is also a humongous pile of dirt that is secured by doors in the bottom of the Gate City MIDDLE school (built in the 80s) that was supposed to be a swimming pool. But....never happened. Just imagine if Scott County combined, how dominate we would be in Volleyball, Basketball, and Football. It would be ridiculous.
I think we need to do some more consolidating..as bad as it sounds. I love Gate City, I really do. But Scott County is swallowing itself with under funding and having to pay for this "sports complex" that will never be finished, Plus Rye Cove has to truck in there lunch everyday from a nearby elementary school because they don't have a cafeteria. I hate everything around here funding wise, Southwest Virginia is always left in the dark without a candle. Everybody in NOVA needs to remember that we also pay taxes down here so they can all have nice things while we are stuck with text books from the mid 90s. It's a shame, it really is. I wish things could change but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
Good luck, represent the CMD well. Sucks we both couldn't be going, I do believe Gate City is the better team, but you guys won when it mattered the most. But I can be a V-CAT fan for a bit i suppose...
