BLUEFIELD, Va. - Graham stormed ahead early, Marion made a run, but in the end the homestanding G-Men held on and pulled away for a 73-63 non-district win over the Scarlet Hurricane, Wednesday night at Graham Middle School.

"For some reason halfway through the second quarter we died," said GHS head coach Glynn Carlock Jr. "We were winded, didn't have our legs under us, but in the second half we came back offensively and did a couple of things well. It was ugly, but it was a win."

Robert Henry helped spark the G-Men to an early lead. Henry scored 12 points, blocked two shots and had a steal in the opening frame, pacing the Graham to a 21-12 lead at the end of the first eight minutes.

The G-Men's lead grew as high as 12 points in the second stanza before Marion came back. A trey and a bucket by Mitch Clark helped bring the Scarlet Hurricane to within seven, 30-23, with 3:15 to play in the half.

The G-Men led 36-31 at the break.

Graham maintained a six point lead throughout the third quarter until Clark drilled a three with 25 seconds to go in the stanza to pull the Hurricane back to within three, 47-44 and that is where it stood going into the game's final eight minutes.

The G-Men pushed back ahead by 14 midway through the fourth before once again the Hurricane stormed back to close the gap to six with just under three minutes to play. Zack Boyette's two free throws with 2:30 to go madeit 64-58. Clark hit two more freethrows with 1:42 left and the Scarlet Hurricane was closer to Graham than they had been since the first quarter, four points, 64-60.

Graham finished the game at the charity stripe and pulled away for the 73-63 win.

Henry led the G-Men with 19 points and seven blocked shots. Mike Alvis checked in with 17 points and Kevin Matthews added 10.

"Robert (Henry) has played that way over the last three or four games. That's what we've got to have out of him the next three or four weeks," Carlock said.

"He has stepped up his game tremendously over the second half of the season and not only him, but Mike Alvis also. They've done a tremendous job despite being undersized."

Boyette led Marion with 19 and Clark added 18.

Graham (9-9) hosts Oak Hill Academy's Red Team on Friday night.
