  1. 1. Monroe County......

Recommended Posts

Now that SWD competition is over let's keep up with America's number 1 league. Perhaps this should have been posted before the season kicked off, but better late than never I always say. Post all your MLS wants/needs/headaches etc. right here! I'll try to keep up with posting results, TV schedules, news and such. Or go straight to the source at www.mlsnet.com . This is the place to root for your team (or complain about it) or whatever. Enjoy!

The MLS All-Star game will be July 30th at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio against Fulham FC of the EPL. Former Crew star and US national team striker Brian McBride plays for Fulham as does Carlos Bocanegra, formerly of the MLS's Chicago Fire. Both of those players scored goals in the US's 3-0 win at Panama.

In other news: FC Dallas' new soccer stadium in Frisco, Texas was officially named Pizza Hut Park today. The soccer-specific stadium will be the site of MLS Cup 2005.

Alexi Lalas was named NY/NJ Metrostars president.

Possibly. Here are some of the cities MLS is looking at for next season's (maybe) expansion: Toronto, Houston, Seattle, St. Louis, Rochester, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee and Philadelphia. San Antonio, TX was being considered, but they failed to meet the requirements. I can't remember why, though. Anyway, here's the schedule for this weekend's action:

Sat. 6/18

Chicago vs. Kansas City 4pm on ESPN2

Metrostars vs. Columbus 7:30pm

DC United vs. New England 7:30pm on Fox Soccer Channel

FC Dallas vs. LA Galaxy 8:30pm

CD Chivas USA vs. Colorado 10pm

San Jose vs. Real Salt Lake 10pm on HDNet

Results for weekend of 7/2:

Coloumbus 0:1 DC United (DC-own goal [Chad Marshall]'64)

DC's first win in Columbus since July 7, 1999! The Crew's Kyle Martino was ejected in the 75th minute for receiving a second yellow card after a reckless foul.

FC Dallas 2:2 San Jose (FCD-Arturo Alvarez [Rhine,O'Brien]'4, SJ-Brian Mullan [Moreno]'6, FCD-Chris Gbandi [Alvarez]'57, SJ-Ricardo Clark [Gray]'59)

San Jose pulls off a draw at the Cotton Bowl despite playing a man down for the entire second half. Danny Califf was booked twice in the first half ('13 for pushing/holding, '35 reckless foul) leaving his team with 10 men.

CD Chivas USA 0:1 Chicago Fire (CHI-Gonzalo Segares [Curtin,Marsch]'78) Chivas keeper Brad Guzan stopped Jesse Marsch's penalty kick in the 69th minute, though the team was left with 10 men after Orlando Perez was shown a straight red card in the 76th minute and then gave up a goal on the ensuing play.

MONDAY 7/4:

Real Salt Lake 2:2 Metrostars (MET-Ante Razov '44, Mike Magee [Razov]'48, RSL-Seth Trembly '78, Jason Kreis PK'90)

Brian Dunseth was shown a straight red card in the 45th minute for a foul on Eddie Gaven, but Real Salt Lake was able to overcome that and a 2-goal defecit to take a point at home.

Colorado Rapids 2:1 Kansas City (KC-Chris Klein [Pore]'8, COL-Alain Nkong [Denton]'57, Terry Cooke '61)

The Rapids get 3 points at home after coming from behind and despite playing with 10 men for half the contest. Not once, but twice Colorado forward Jean Philippe Peguero showed off his Diego Maradona impersonation by trying to punch the ball into the goal with his fist. However, he could not fool the referee who disallowed both goals and booked Peguero for each attempt ('4 & '40), with a red card following Peguero's second yellow.

LA Galaxy 1:1 New England (LA-Michael Enfield [Gomez,Dunivant]'87, NE-Andy Dorman [Joseph,Twellman]'94+)

After the Galaxy seemed to score the game-winner just before stoppage time, New England responded with what was literally the last kick of the game to steal a point away from home.
