BarraBrava99 12 Report Share Posted April 26, 2007 Game in Columbus to be aired at 8:30 p.m. ET following NBA Playoff action Washington, D.C. - D.C. United today announced plans to honor and support victims of last week's shootings on the campus of Virginia Tech. United, playing its first game since the tragic events, will wear maroon jerseys adorned with a Virginia Tech emblem when the club travels to play the Columbus Crew on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. Comcast SportsNet will broadcast that match at 8:30 p.m. ET, upon completion of the Washington Wizards-Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Playoff game. Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned at www.dcunited.com next week, with full proceeds being donated to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund, a university-developed charity benefiting victims and their families. "With several staff members intimately involved with the university and given the close proximity of the Virginia Tech campus to Washington, D.C., we felt acutely motivated to act in support of this cause," said United Executive Vice President Stephen Zack. "Our club sends our deepest sympathy to the victims and their families, the university at large, and the town of Blacksburg." D.C. United has contacted the local Virginia Tech Alumni Association and is seeking methods to continue to assist the university in its time of need. United fans are encouraged to visit www.vt.edu for more information on the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund, other individual funds and alternative ways to support and provide for those affected. www.soccernet.com
dawgs86 10 Report Share Posted April 27, 2007 yea the Houston Dynamo are supposed to do it too. Funny thing is the dynamo actually agreed to do this first and then DC United comes in and agrees to do it, then puts their game ahead of Houston so it looks like DC came up with the idea http://www.hokiesports.com/msoccer/recaps/20070425aaa.html
