floridabeaver 10 Report Share Posted December 14, 2007 From The Charleston Dail Mail How long before Princeton and the other Southern WV teams try to opt out? Thursday December 13, 2007 MSAC changes could be forthcoming Lincoln County, Greenbrier East want out of conference by From staff reports Greenbrier East and Lincoln County high schools told a committee of Mountain State Athletic Conference athletic directors on Wednesday of their desire to leave the conference, Commissioner Fred Aldridge said. Though both wish to leave the conference, the organization's bylaws includes penalties for such a decision. Members must pay $5,000 to MSAC coffers and go four years without playing teams that remain in the league. "Greenbrier East and Lincoln County wanted out without any penalty," Aldridge said. Aldridge said that after nearly an hour and 45 minutes of discussion there was an amendment proposed that would allow the schools to sustain one penalty or the other. The amendment will be voted on at the Feb. 14 meeting of conference athletic directors at Coonskin Park. If Greenbrier East and Lincoln County leave the MSAC, it could pave the way for the formation of a new Class AAA conference. Both Logan and Winfield are preparing to move from Class AA to AAA at the beginning of the 2008 school year. Those schools - as well as Nicholas County, Princeton, Spring Valley and Parkersburg South - have all expressed interest in joining such a conference. Lincoln County, however, expressed its desire on Wednesday to remain independent. Parkersburg South petitioned the North Central Athletic Conference for membership last year, but was turned down. South, which left the MSAC in 1999, had also discussed forming a new league with Bridgeport and Robert C. Byrd last year prior to the resignation of Athletic Director and former boys basketball Coach Joe Crislip.
