Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted August 20, 2009 One of the largest, deadliest, costliest storms ever to strike the United States. Many often forget that likely the 2nd-most hardest hit area after the Gulf Coast was little Nelson County, Virginia. From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Camille Sobering statistic: "In Nelson County, the number of deaths amounted to over one percent of the county's population." 39 inches of rain in 24 hours, easily a record for that area: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Camille1969filledrainblk.gif "There, rainfall was so heavy that reports were received of birds drowning in trees, cows floating down the Hatt Creek and of survivors having to cup hands around their mouth and nose in order to breathe through the deluge."
