Sherman defeats Valley

"The Tide dominated play against Valley-Fayette and eventually claimed a four-touchdown to one-touchdown scrimmage victory.

Sherman senior QB Corey Asbury paced the Tide offense. Asbury completed eight of nine passes and hooked up with senior flanker Justin Lutsy for a 15-yard touchdown pass. Asbury also scored on a nine-yard touchdown run.

Senior back Zeke Milam added a 10-yard touchdown run for the Tide and senior Jamie Collins, a tight end and short-yardage fullback, scored on a one-yard touchdown run.

Tide sophomore defensive back Dustin Trail intercepted a pair of passes to help pace the Sherman defense. Trail returned one interception about 60 yards for an apparent touchdown, but a clipping penalty erased the return.

Senior defensive lineman Jeremy Saunders and senior linebackers Justin Lutsy, Jamie Collins, Zeke Milam, and Corey Asbury also paced the veteran Tide defense.

Sherman head coach Bill Miller commented, “Our offense moved the ball real well, and our defense did a good job of containing Valley’s speed.

“The biggest thing that we came out of this scrimmage needing to work on is sustaining our blocks a little longer up front and we need to do a better job of blocking downfield.â€ÂÂ

Sherman will compete in a grid-o-rama this Saturday afternoon at Herbert Hoover High School. Sherman will face Calhoun County (noon) and Sissonville (1:00 p.m.) Buffalo, Clay, Braxton County, Roane County, and hoover will also compete.

The Sherman Tide will open the 2004 season on Friday, August 27th when they travel to Fayette County to face the Mount Hope Mustangs."(Coal Valley News)
