Haysi 43, Hurley 0

For 2 quarters, Hurley's defense had Haysi on there heels. Probably a mixture of under-estimating there opponent and some tough play, Hurley went into halftime down 15-0 in what was looking to be a tough contest. However, a key injury right before halftime to a Hurley player and giving up a TD on the following play set the tone for Hurley's 43-0 loss. Depth was a big issue, as Hurley was down to 15 players this week, with Haysi keeping fresh legs in on offense all night, and the defense held Hurley to three and out for the better part of the night.

Haysi is a very physical team, very strong on the DL with LBs who can stuff the run. When passing, Hurley had literally no time to throw the ball and the DBs coverage was tight. Rushing was no different, as Haysi over-powered the OL and did not miss any tackles.

It will be a shame if they don't make the playoffs. Granted, they do have there weaknesses (nobody will mistake Hurley for Gate City or Powell Valley, but Haysi wouldn't survive against either of those teams if they get forced into the same mistakes Hurley forced on them), but they do have the talent and the depth to make a good run. They might wind up like Honaker did last year, sitting home @ 9-1.

Of course, I'm still pee'd off about Haysi still kicking onside kicks after getting up 31-0. I could complain about the handling of the play clock (with Haysi driving late in the 2nd Q, the clock got stopped for everything; in the 4th quarter, the clock didn't stop running, even after touchdowns) but it is a moot point and had no outcome on the game.

The boys need to keep there heads up. The season isn't over, two games left, and possibly the playoffs. There is still some football left.
